The September XDK has been released and with it developers got a first look at what to except in the fall 2006 dashboard update for the Xbox 360 that will be released in November 2006 to the public. Some of the new dashboard features shown below: * The "Launchpad" to boot game demos and homebrew games with the final version of XNA Game Studio Express (will require a $99/year XNA Creators Club subscription) * New Xbox LIVE Arcade interface * New Marketplace interface * New memory management for your storage
This is certainly not a complete changelog, but it should give you an idea of some of the things you can expect in the upcoming fall build.
Here are some screenshots of the new dashboard (click for full resolution):

Hard Drive size blacked out is the first thing I saw, also note that there is CoD2 saved on the hard drive also which means alot of games are probably stored on the hdd, so the hdd size must be big.

Doesn't look to be many big changes other than the look, though the HD-DVD Drive support will probably be a part of this package.

Sweet. I think those camera games will be cool. It shows 7 (compatible) on there. I guess they will be releasing some more compatible/camera interactive ones on XBL Arcade? Time for a pressed fruit bowl up on my camera...sweet!

I will add this to the other post (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=546198)
But I really need to see more Movie Trailer downloads. Any trailer in HD is dope. I wonder why they cannot host a whole lineup on their? You would think they would get paid to promote this stuff...

looks fucking gay...
http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/xbox360/xex...t-06/image1.jpgi hate when companies feel like they need to dirty up a menu interface with pictures or graphics especialy people holding controllers or pretending to have too much fun playing a game
sooo
throw a picture of some chick on the live arcade games button...cause it will apeal more to women that way?
slick microsoft, real slick.
some of the added features ar very nice like the arcade categories but over all i think they dirties up the interface and gave it a much more cheezy toy look...
they couldnt make it look more slick and more intuitive? who does their gui designs any ways?
sorry for the bitching i expected better, new features nice, new look is ass...

Eh...
I don't think these are fakes... BUT I will say I don't care.
Personally, I think the 360 Dashboard kicks enough *** as it is!
I think the first dashboard at launch was a little lacking in organization, but I think with the updates we have now that it's superb.
I'm not saying there's NO ROOM for improvement -- Not at all. I'm just saying that these pictures show me an ugly revision of the way the dashboard is organized. There's a couple things I like, but mostly I dislike everything 'new' that I see in these pictures.
Again, I'm happy with the dash the way it is now even though it's not perfect.
From what we've seen of the PS3 dashboard/interface, I think we can all feel comfortable that our 360 dashboard is 100 times better. So why fix something that's not broken?

They better get group chat in there one way or another.
Not a single thing mentioned interests me really. I'm still looking for:
-Improved menu speeds
-Show "Play GRAW" instead of "Play Game" for example
-Group chat, even if they only move it to 3 for the time being. They could always increase more down the road...
-Configurable circle of light LED's(for the console) The quarter moon thing looks retarded, all we need this indicator for is for the controller. I'd rather have a full moon 24/7 on the console... or have it cycle like it's searching.
-Improved meun speeds

The pictures are very real ... and there are even many people that could confirm it ... basicly any official developer (but they are probably not allowed to talk about it).
It's the dash that came with the new September XDK.
MS could still add more stuff by november tho I guess.

no - atleast not in the begining.
You'll need that 99usd/y subscription and you will not be able to directly run an executable on your 360.
To run homebrew game code on your 360 it will have to be network connected with a PC with XNA Game Studio Express installed. The code will be loaded from the PC on the 360.

Miscrosoft can make a killing off of this tactic. Charge everyone that wants to run homebrew $100? As soon as a crack comes out they will still make money because they know that the system would be cracked regardless so why not dip into the pot.

"Dear valued Xbox customer. We have detected that you have modified the programming of your Xbox 360. We here at Microsoft are aware how people like you want to run homebrewed applications on your 360. So we have decided to give you 2 months work of XNA Game Studio Express. Please, I hope you enjoy this and are able to get the most out of the 360.
P.S. We have convientely rewritten your programming of your 360. We know you didn't mean to do it...

They should remove the delete option from arcade and videos. It should only be available through mem mgt. It bugs me. Also, it would be nice if messaging people was faster. There are just too many steps involved.

i wish it had a keyboard like in timesplitters (i think

) where it was a ring of the alphabet and where ever the joy stick was picked the letter, i could type fast as shit in that, OR how about T9 dictionary work recognition, shitin cell phones can have it but not the 360. oh and when you are typing a message dont make the B button go back and delete your WHOLE message. i know youre not soppeded to but i do it all the time and have to start over

only thing is not all of us are theiving gits and just want to back up our games as is our "legal" right in the country we live in. Please dont tarnish everyone with modified firmware with the same brush. Yes there is alot of piracy, there's also alot of information on these boards helping people commit piracy. Its a double edged sword unfortunatly.

well i dont see anything all that new besides cosmetic changes and so on i kinda perfer the spring update look myself....... bet this is the update that will kill the modded firmwars........ glad to see that the XNA stuff is in there..... hope this dusent kill my 3ed 360 (spring update was the death of my originall 360 and the replacement was over-heating)...... most likely its real but some little things i gess would make some people feal that they are fakes but we do have to remimber that M$ said that they would me updateing original XBL arcade games to use the camara and maby those screen shots were of the dash board with the updated games (kinda far fetched but i havent read a better idea)........ well lets see how about some streeming of my videos (really what all are we wanting to watch on our computers that we cant watch on TVs i personally think that microsoft is thining that eather your wanting to watch a movie that you downloaded (ilegaley) or watch porn

if you have a ligit movie they think you shuld buy it or burn it i gess......
ok end of a verry long and winded rant

For the love of god, they better fix the Xbox Live Arcade page so it doesn't count each game every single time you go into it, it takes forever. It wasn't so bad when you had 5 games, but when you have close to 20, it sucks big time. Also, and probably more importantly, make the menu speed faster. It's worthless when playing an online game.

i wasn't saying that everyone does this. what people do with their hacked firmware is to each their own. i know that some people use only backups while alot more just copy games. i really don't care.
