threads on hardware / software to use for a working backup are getting out of hand and need to be centralized, please use these instead of making new threads.

There are a couple already made, but its been a while and there are newer firmwares available and now seems to be a good time to begin a new thread.

Let me start each of these thread by saying YOU CANNOT GO WRONG PURCHASING VERBATIM DVD+R DL DISCS!
they are currently the best discs available for 360 backups, flat out.

you can get them fairly cheap, sometimes as low as $1.50 a disk in packs of 10-30.

any other media you use, may work for you at first, but dont be surprised to see a dirty disc error in the future.
store brands, off brands, etc.)

backed up on Verbatim's and they all work perfectly.

There are those who unfortunately cannot get Verbatim to work. There is no such thing as 100% compatible media no matter what the application. However, they are still by far the most versatile D/L media on the market. You are correct that I am not stating that other media will not work, I was merely pointing out that the guy who posted that anything works on the Pioneer 111D is making a HUGE ASSumption. Plenty of evidence here that supports that other media is not as compatible as the Verbatim and as I have been trying to point out, there are precious few here who are thinking about the long term consequences of using such media (ie error rate scans, ect). That being said, if you do live in North America there are plenty of excellent sales on Verbatim media that often bring them down to the point where there either isn't much difference in price between them and the cheap quality stuff or in some cases that they are even cheaper (usually some form of rebate involved though). I got a 20 pack from newegg about 3 weeks ago that was $31 shipped (roughly $1.55 a disc) and there was a $10 MIR on top of that, works out to $1.05 a disc after rebate. I can't even get POS D/L media for that cheap. For those who live overseas the Verbatim cause isn't completely hopeless. Most in Europe are able to order from http://www.svp.co.uk. 10 packs of Verbatim for 14 pounds (including VAT). I know there are cheaper options for D/L media but it's still not that bad when you factor in everything that I have mentioned.

Ok finally got this thing going. Used Gary OPA 7in1 first and it didn't boot a damn thing. Switched to Birdy's after a full restore of course and now we are ON!

In General I am using the Tuffdiscs as they are cheaper and work fine
on my particular 360's

Just to say they work on mine does not mean they will automatically work on somone elses.

It has many factors.

Mostly to do with the laser calibration in your 360 drive I think.

Although error scans show that the pioneer is a quality burner.

I guess that I am lucky that both my 360's dvd drives have come out of the factory
very well calibrated and seem to read media very well.

A Samsung MS25 drive that I flashed for a friend will only read the Verbs and gives an open tray
error on the tuffdiscs that have no problems on my machine.

Hence all Xbox360 drives are not equal.

Burned Dead Rising and Enchanted Arms at 2.4x using CloneCD [latest version], set booktype/bitsetting to DVD-ROM with DVD Info Pro. Both games loaded flawlessly and damn near instantly as fast as an original game loads and I have played both for about 2 hours a piece.

100% success so far. I was under the impression that Hitachi's were really really picky about media type and burner. However this LiteOn seems to be executing flawless burns on this Ritek media. If proof if needed I WILL take pictures/live video.

Finally got my setup working today!

i spent a few days searching for success AND failure stories regarding my memorex drive and that really helped me out a lot to find the *winning* combination of apps that work with this older burner. unfortunately, i made 5 coasters to begin with, but everything is working now and i am very glad i did not have to buy another burner. the 25pack of +R9 media i purchased from newegg.com came with a free shipping plus a 512 mb sd card too so that is a nice bonus.

-Samsung SH-D162C w/TS04_XB360_KREON_V081 to avoid having to make a pc<>360 connection
-Xbox_Backup_Creator_v2.3.0.185 to backup my games straight from the d162c
-Memorex DVD16+/-DL4RWlD2 burner w/patched JS0D FW for LiteOn DVDRW SOHW-1673S for media compatibility; the JWS6(stock) firmware also worked for my current media
-RiDATA 25 pack +R/DL(RITEK_S04) was my choice for +R9 media; claims to be up to 8x compatible
