Hope m$ does well this time, Wii looks cheap and cool so think it will do well, PS3 will get better as years go on but really not sure about Sony just yet. They have really let me down with Delaying in Europe, I was considering getting one for F1 games but I hate how Sony picks on Europe all the freakin time (look at PSP for example, which is why I got a DS).

as much as id like ms to win, i think sony will pull ahead this time simply because of a larger fanbase, huge backward compatibility list, and ps2's huge popularity. Ms is still pretty new to this however sony has been in the buisness for a pretty long time, and judging by the success of previous generations, know what their doing. Just look at japan, they've sold what, like 5 360's there? either theres no gamers (ya right) or they all are waiting for the ps3. just my 2 cents

I hope MS does better this time round with the 360 against the PS3. I think Sony have really screwed up this time. PS3 is way too much money for a system that will probably play games just as well as the much cheaper 360. Does anyone really care about Blu Ray?. The 360 has had over a years head start and is selling very well (except Japan). The 360 has an already massive and successful online community with a good selection of games. Oh yeah and no PS3 in Europe for xmas??, big mistake!. People will just buy the 360 instead and any parents will be happy they didn't need to spend the extra £££s on the PS3. But Sony will still do really well just because of their brand name. So for that I think it will be MS 1st with Sony just behind and then Nintendo.

I think nintendo will win.....It has the cheapest console, awesome controler, virtual console, and online play

.....Ms will get 2nd....it has good games...great graphics...reasonable price...and xbox live.....sony will be last...because of their price, possibly slow console manufacturing, no europe at launch, developers are having a hard time making games....

My two cents..... I voted M$, Nintendo, Sony. My reasoning came from three categories; price, release date, and features.
M$ will finish first because they won over quite a bit of people, including my self, with the xbox and they now have a fan base. Just as Sony did after the Play Station. My second reason would be that they hit the market first and the average consumer can't afford more than one console. The 360 isn't going to be as featured packed as the PS3 but let's not forget about LIVE. I think LIVE will dominate for years to come. One last thing that will help secure M$ at the top is that Sony will not have as many exclusive titles as it did for the PS2, which in my opinion is the biggest reason the PS2 stayed alive after the release of the xbox.
Nintendo will finish second because the price on it just looks too good to pass up if your looking for something new to do. Nintendo also has too many loyal fans, including me, to let it pass for that price.
As for Sony, I can't find anything go to say about it except that it's going to be one bad mother. It will top the 360 in performance but at the same time in price. The price tag on it just doesn't seem like something I my self would just pick up, let alone save up for. Trust me, everyone in Japan will have one but Japan doesn't make up the whole consumer market. The last point is that it will hit the market last.
In conclusion, the biggest reason I think M$ will finish first is that it will hit the market first. Sony will finish last because it cost too damn much and Nintendo is stuck in the middle because it's a bargain. Maybe my rankings are bias because I like Nintendo for everything it has done but I still stick with my stance as M$ finishing #1.
A quick thought I had after posting is that I'd like to see the same poll and it's results on a Sony and Nintendo site.......

I think consumers will reconsider a 360 when they find out that a) they cant play the latest dvd movies b/c they are on blueray or B) they have to buy a $300 add-on drive thats half the size of the 360 just to play HD-DVD movies(no games). Also, sony dev's can fit a ton of game on a blueray disc(30Gb), compared to dual layer dvds for 360. This is more of a problem for future games not current generation.

Honestly... I think that the PS3 is too expensive at its current price to penetrate deeply into the market. People complained about the $400 price tag of the 360.... what do you think they will say about the $500 tag of the PS3 (since the premium 360 is comparable to the $500 PS3)?

I choose 360 , Wii then PS3 because ,
From what I can tell , the 360 is a system that takes everyone into consideration. I feel the same way about the Wii.
*I did not post this to bash sony* When you talk about the PS3 , 600 dollars !
70+ dollars per game , pushing untested technology (that damn Blue-Ray is boosting the price) down our throats...

Clearly it will be Microsoft winning the round of the Console wars but Nintendo will do great. Sony, Sony, Sony, what can I say about Sony, they are still the top sellers for there ps2 which some silly person in my family just bought (brother) but ps3 away to expensive for the average gamer to buy. That is not to say that the fanaticals wont buy it so that they can manufacture nuclear bombs and enrich uranium with old out date Iranian style processes. I would just like to say a couple of other thing, I would love to see Nintendo kick all there ass packing back to the drawing boards for next year. The Wii has me shooting off in my pants with all the things that are possible to be done with it. Again just to rap up what I think will be the winning order, Microsoft-Nintendo-Sony.

MS - Sony - Nintendo
I think Sony has messed up this time! I'm not buying into the Wii hype, it looks like a GC with a gimmick controller and standard defination looks rubbish on Hi-Def TVs, so I'm not convinced by the lifespan of the Wii.
If we are talking about Japan then it's probably going to be the reverse.

I don't think the 400 + 200 is a big deal for almost everybody, seeing as a whole, like 8 people will buy the addon (which is rumored to be $370...).
As for "sony is cheaper for what you get" - I think most of us could live without the Blu-Ray drive too...(because if it didn't have one, it would've been launched 6 months ago for the same price as the 360! And the games would be cheaper! And I might actually have considered buying one!)

It would be ignorant to think that ms won't be making hd-dvd games in the near future, and what happens to those who don't have that technology in the 360? This is a great time to see where gaming technology goes, but ask yourself what the safer long term route is. Almost every media format has gone down in price since its' creation--I'll bet on the one without the media bottleneck.

The idea of Microsoft going HD-DVD for games is a joke. DVD9 is plenty, even if they spanned 2 discs. The point is you'll not be able to convince people to upgrade to play new games.
Secondly any larger hard drive will most likely be an aftermarket add-on, not a bundled in a new console deal. More money to be made from the aftermarket.

I really think microsoft has it going for them with the 1 year head start from everyone else and fantastic xbox live.
I could see how it could be hard for relaxed gamers to enjoy the console though with out an hd tv and xbox live.
The xbox would be complete with some more killer fps's and better games. I can't wait for the new rainbow six and the new splinter cell and of corse when halo 3 comes out that's what everyone's going to play. Some killer games is what the xbox 360 really needs.
Ps3 is just too expensive for a video game console and is probably going to get lots of older gamers while the wii is going to have more kids on it. Also it's going to be hard to beat sony's fan base.

xbox 360: year ahead of the others, landing good gaming deals, xbox live, hd

Hmm... . .
Tough choice, I think only time will tell because it's too close to call. I'd say the 360 may continue to go from strength to strength in countries outside of japan. The Japanese culture though will not allow for "the invaders" to win no matter how much microsoft lose money on it over there by dropping prices. I think most Japanese would rather perform harikari with a wii contwoller then buy a 360. Wii on the other hand is home soil material, Japanese people will probably buy two wiis before they buy one PS3 or 360.
Microsoft might have won (in Japan) if they were able to get some quality japanese launch titles out, but as it was they were burnt badly buy the jap developers. Square shortchanged them badly, and they launch with nothing of interest for the japs to play.
So yeah in summary, 360 and wii for the rest of the world (or maybe wii and 360). For Japan it will be Wii and PS3, though I doubt the PS3 will win against the wii.
The wii is a bitchin little box of tricks, reminds me of the first xbox all the potential it has, the m$ are starting to see the light with their XNA express thing.
I think M$ are starting to go well if Japs don't want us, who cares, we'll have the rest of the world, Sony and Nintendo they're all yours (and they are too).

I don't think people are quite grasping the "worldwide" aspect of this.
How many Xbox 360s have been sold in Japan? No matter how well the Xbox does in N. America (I think it will be #1) , it doesn't matter to the worldwide market when you consider Japan. I'm saying Sony - MS - Nintendo , just like last gen.

Xbox live is M$'s trumpcard, if Sony can't counter it effectively they will be lucky to compete with nintendo Wii and it's retrocade system.
The blueray benifit will be lost on the mainstream (urban rednecks) customer base they need to
appeal to, to sell lots of profitable game titles.
Do a poll of your extended family and see how many have genuine 720p/1080p HD televisions, not just a cross my fingers HD compatible big screen. Unlike what sony are saying DVD format was well entrenched before the PS2 release, going by their version of history it was the driving force of the DVD movie industry.
This obsession with forcing blueray could pontential kill off Sony or at the very least the current managment.

I have chosen MS-Sony-Nintendo.
xbox 360 will have hundreds of titles before the sony even gets launched who wants a system with a choice of 5 games when you can have a system with a choice of a hundred. the Wii looks like a cheap piece of trash IMO and I would never own one and everyone I know that has seen it says the same thing. Seriously their methods of control is hopeless a remote control that looks like a tv remote and a 1 hands controller. I do see these selling huge in the asian market though. Sony will sell big as always but i think with MS head start they should keep ahead. I know a lot of people who have pre ordered the ps3 but are having 2nd thoughts about wether having money tied up on a promise that keeps getting further away was ever worth it in the first place.

MS, SONY, NINTENDO.
As someone else said, how many people actually have proper hdtv's? Not that many. Although there are a lot of people that will go & buy whatever crazed original product comes out (i-pod, hdtv, sky+) most people (especially older people) would rather save their cash. However there is one thing that is original that has started a craze which has a FANTASTIC price... the XBOX360. It's good value for money & should be cheaper than the PS3 when it's eventually, after Christmas cough*late*cough released. Oh, what a shame, especially when HALO3 should be released about that time, poor ps3. So plenty of people have bought 360's, there are still a lot of people waiting for a proper mod before buying one. The XBOX fanclub is bigger than ever. Then there are all the Christmas gift 360's. Then there are all the people who will go to the store & think "this one's much cheaper, looks concave (slim, cool, modern) instead of convex (fat ugly ps3 george foreman grill:
http://www.freakware.de/news/ps3-grill.jpg ) it has LOADS more games; better games, & has stolen GTA4, the games are cheaper & don't need to fill a DVD-9 never mind a 30GB disc, it would be possible to put them onto 2 DVD-9 discs anyway & would probably cost less, it has HD resolution so the ps3 isn't ahead there either, it has XBOX360 LIVE, it has mods for it already, & if we want to watch HD movies then we can always get the HD add-on device, which as a total is probably still cheaper than a ps3. So let's get a 360." Go MS, win the console war!
Although I hate them, I voted that SONY will come second because they still have a huge fanclub, & then there are all the idiots who will just buy one because the name is popular, "Let's buy a games console, erm, lets buy a playstation" (dumbasses), that's partially why ps2's were so popular, then they tell their dumbass friends & then they buy playstations. At least this time around, the XBOX name is much more popular than it used to be, & its easier to say XBOX than playstation, the thing that used to drive me mad though was when all the ps2 fanboys used to talk to each other about
P.S.2, that was so annoying, that bloody codename! Although the price of it is ridiculous & a complete rip-off as with most Sony products, that's OK to those who buy them 'cos they're buying the brandname.
Nintendo will probably come third mainly because of the size of sony's dumbass fanclub, even though nintendo's console will probably be a great price & would be better to have in combination with a 360 than an overpriced ps3. Unfortunately though, their console isn't that powerful & they would need to have more of the best selling games (especially R* games & even if they did they probably wouldn't have GTA4). Nintendo games are good & innovative but the new console will need more non-nintendo games to have a better chance against the ps3. The low price is a big selling point though, especially for nintendo fans, & the console's exterior design is better than the fat ps3.

MS, Nintendo, Sony.
I think that Sony prices themselves out of 1st place. Sure the hardcore gamers will pay for it. But If I am a soccer mom who knows nothing, I'd pick-up a 360 (which has been out for a year for name recognition), or a Wii (based on price point).
Maybe I'm wrong, but at $200-300, a poor person (USA poor), could afford a PS2, but at $500-600 they will go somewhere else.
I think that the Wii is going to be huge. Look how well the DS has done. It has wide appeal, is easy to use, and casual gamers can afford it. Talk about backwards compatibility, the Wii is going to be like a MAME machine.
On the downside, if I am wrong and people are willing to shell out $500-600 for a PS3, we are likely never to see a new generation maching under that price again.

I think for the majority of the next gen era, 360 will dominate, wii will take second for a while till PS3 drops in price and real good games start coming out.
But I will not buy a PS3 for at least a couple of years because of 1) Price 2) Sony couldn't get the DVD drive to work that well in the PS2 and now they're playing around with "new technology" I predict that their bluray drive will break just as fast as my PS2 DVD drive broke.

I'm all up for XBOX 360 and I hope it wins,
but Sony just has too much experience in the hardware department, world wide known for excellent hardware stuff, and too much crazy fanatism
.
In the long run, Sony will catch up with MS and surpass them
- hopefully not by much- and even though their console will cost 200 dollars more, it will outsell the xbox360.
Amen to that.
Im a mad keen Xbox fan, and own a 360 and numerous originals. but Sony will win every time. At least until MS do something different. Releasing early? Thats just saying 'we know we have nothing special with which to win this battle, we just have to get people to buy it first"
Sony are too smart. Japan is the country of innovation, you can't beat that.
For example, who here missed the craze of 'buzz'?
I, for one, did not. It hit NZ like a storm, and everywhere people were snaffling these things up, and for the first (and thankfully last) time, I wished that I had a PS2. I still didn't buy one, though.
The majority of people with PS2 and PS1 games arent exactly going to rush out and grab a 360, unless the price puts them off the PS3. But then, even if it does, thats what finance is for.
Short answer - f**k the price. If people want a PS3, they will get one.
With all the hundreds and thousands of playable games, who's going to turn around to the competition to have to buy all their faves again?
Not only that, who the hell wants a next-gen console that cannot compete with the next-gen format? (External HD-DVD? Apparently unable to play games? Why don't we just add a bigger power suppy while we're at it!)
PS2 has been around for ages, cause it worked. PS4 (or whatever it will be) isnt going to be out for ages, because with a machine as powerful as this (I'm talking blu-ray, and they know exactly the hardware needed to make it run - and run well) why the hell would they need to worry? People are STILL buying the PS2.
Japanese people, AFAIK, are not stupid. Anyone care to argue that? They will make, and buy, almost anything that will make their lives easier or better. The 360 just doesn't do that. Its an upgraded version of the original, sure, but thats where the fun stops. Theres just nothing new to it.
And for those of you who are hailing XBL as the selling point - Sony are big boys, they'll think of something.
This is just my opinion, please don't get angry (if you think thats worth it)
Forgive me if this isn't quite structured right, Im in a rush.

I think M$ is gonna lose out
- Nintendo has originality and a lower price
- Sony has the popularity and power
I think it's gonna be between Sony and Nintendo, the DS has shown with Brain Training that all kinds of ppl are buying its soft/hardware now, so it's opened up a gap in the market for its new console, and Sony will simply sell more units as its lifecycle goes on and it gets cheaper. There's still nothing particularly special about the m$ console that hasn't been done before.

OK.... I am kind of hung up on this whole issue. I would like to see M$ win it but you have a huge behemoth of a company called Sony. Sony has easily 20 times the fan base as M$, but heres the way I look at it
SONY:
++Pro's++
*More powerful system
*Larger fan base
*GIANT backwards compatibility list
*Included Blu-Ray player
--Con's--
*HUGE price-point ($600 is going to put this system in its own ball park. this will cut out a ton of the "lets get this for little 10 year-old Johnny for Christmas crowd" Plus paying $70 PER game is getting a little out of control.
*Blu-Ray is a completely infant technology and hasn't established itself in ANY market yet. The movie companies are divided on which format to use, thus not all movies will be available on Blu-Ray.
*Blu-ray takes way longer to load than traditional DVD-9 media.
*What if Blu-ray fails? (Can you say UMD-Movies and Mini-Disc and Betamax?)
*Sony is VERY OVER-ZEALOUS about their products (Can you say **cough**"EMOTION ENGINE"?) Stop the "Hype Train" Sony.....
+/ -Undecided +/-
*1080p .... is it really necessay now? None of the launch titles are scheduled to be 1080p. and is it really all that its cracked up to be??
*Bluetooth... SEVEN Simultaneous controllers.. Why 7.. why not 8?
*Online Gaming...... Sony doesn't have any good history when it comes to Online Gaming (Dont even mention PS2 [except FFXI] and PSP is sketchy at best)
All in all I am still keeping my eyes on this one to see how it develops. I will not be purchasing a PS3 at launch I do know that though.....

I like the idea of 360 > Wii > Ps3, but I'm not so sure and here's why. Wii is going to be $150-$180. Do you know how attractive Nintendo products are to young kids? Everywhere you go there are kids with DS's and GBA's. The pricepoint is awesome, and DS's and Wii go hand in hand. When they come out there will be plenty on hand - no blue diode shortage here. They will saturate the market and have plenty of release titles. Nintendo is back and they know how to make something that will sell itself. I've never seen a bad console from them - just bad timing. And timing is right this season - Ps3 really isn't a competitor for them - it's considered a different gaming device from 360 and Ps3. It's going to kickass. Go 360 and Wii!!!!!!!!

Short answer - f**k the price. If people want a PS3, they will get one.
Eh?. How'd you work that one out?. Lots of people just can't afford a PS3 whether they really want one or not.

although i'm a huge PS fan i'm afraid this time sony is in above their heads. they'll only have 2mill. consoles till the end of this year worldwide and either 6million total or 6million more by the end of March. Whatever the case maybe Sony is stuck really bad this time.
So i would say:
MS, Nintendo, Sony.
I think Nintendo would've beaten MS if it came out at around the time of Xbox360 or even if it had come out before the summer. But alas Nintendo took too long but Wii being the only true next gen console, and i still think Revolution was the most appropriate name for it, will most probably edge ahead of Sony and would probably beat even X360 this holiday season.

[...] the DS has shown with Brain Training that all kinds of ppl are buying its soft/hardware now, so it's opened up a gap in the market for its new console [...]
Now watch them sell the Wii to your grandparents/parents and girlfriends, and we'll see Nintendo on top again. Hard to pick between Nintendo, MS, Sony and Nintendo, Sony, MS...
