Hi everyone, if one of your backups does not work how do you find out if its the dump or the ss?
bush-is-my-her0
assume its both ,

now start making the new backup

What is the exact error or problem you are having??

If it says: "To play this disc insert it into a 360 console" then the security sector is bad.

If you just get "Open Tray" the the disc format is bad.

What does your last statement mean? disc format is bad? I'm getting a lot of that, and need to know if it's a disc problem, or the drive... using Memorex with 111d.

Sometimes - not always - use the dashboard to open and close the tray - might load after this.

If your backup's are not working - I agree with bush-is-my-her0... assume both and restart.

Be patient - I use wxripper with an LG-8163 DVD-Rom ... and a hitachi v47 to get the security sectors. Make sure the disc is in the drive for a few seconds before you attempt to extraction. To answer another question you're going to have ... every time you query the security sectors - they'll be different - but all should work. I use the 1st attempt - even tho the 2nd, 3rd, and every subsequent attempt is different...

I can't speak for isobuster - had problems using that method myself - had the same problem you're having infact.

Ok, if you can, help me out on this one. i have always made backups of my games so my son doesnt scratch the originals when he plays them. I just tried to do the godfather, and no go. couldnt back up using a Hitachi drive. Tried a second time, no go. Now, i was wondering the same thing as mentioned. So, i took my ss i extracted, loaded it up in ss merger 1.6 and 1.7, did a search and my ss i extracted didnt match anything on the list. So i burned anyway. No go. I then took a ss bin that i know works for sure, and sure enough. green bar indicating that it works. burned and runs great. I then took my elder scrolls 4 disc that i have backed up in the past, and worked in the past, and backed it up. to make a long story short. this time it didnt work. i know what i am doing, have made backups before. Now doesnt seem to let me extract ss.bin. Has anyone had this prob and if so, please help me out...... Dont understand why i could extract it before, and now i can not. same computer, same drive, same firmware, etc.

Hey, lesslinger how did you get elder scrolls to work. I am using wxripper. I have tried it numerous times. Backup won't play. What is your layout file like? I have changed it a few ways, still won't work. 7.05 gb in size. Haved tries 3 different SS files. I always use verbs with clone cd. This is the same method i have always used. Just can't figure this one out.

I used wxripper also, it worked, but now when i extract the ss from my drive, the ss is no good. i tried to re flash the firmware, but that didnt help. just cant understand why i was able to do it before, and not now. I have tried on Hitachi and toshiba drive. What gives? As for why yours isnt working, i wish i could help. maybe you are not extracting the ss correctly, or maybe you are having the same prob as me. If someone else jumps into this thread, hopefully we will get some help.
lesslinger
sorry, to answer your original q, i didnt change anything. left the ltf alone.

I also was able to back up elder scrolls using wxripper method. I gotta tell you that the dump is darn picky though. I had problems like the probs that you are having so I took my original disc to game crazy and had them buff it out all nice and shiney and tried again. No probs worked great. Make sure you have a CLEAN original to start with.

i do, but i cant seem to get a good ss from any game any more. I do play my 360 on live, so i am starting to wonder if maybe microsoft is doing something. Like i said, im not a newbie, i have made plenty of backups for the 360. I even went as far as to flash my drive back to orig, then put on a older firmware that i used to do a lot of games in the beginning. still no go. I have tried getss, disc tools, and even did it with dvdinfopro. I have both the hitachi, and toshiba. Neither one gets the right ss. Anyone know what might be wrong? Also, the toshiba i can not always get windows to recognize the drive. i have the nforce board. any suggestions?
lesslinger
ok. now i feel like im talking to myself. I am now using a different computer. Toshiba recognized all the time. used dvdinfopro to make ss.bin and used disktools also. i can save them, but still dont get the green with ss merger 1.6 or 1.7. I dont understand this. has anyone who has used their xbox 360 on live with the hacked firmware been able to make a useable backup and ss.bin? Im wondering if MS has done something in my bios to prevent backing up ss.bin. Please help....

I thought it only went green if it had searched the database and found the same game and then if your ss matched the ss in the database. If it has not found your game in the database or you choose not to check it, then it will stay red even if the dump and ss are ok.
lesslinger
yes. thats the thing. i have extracted the ss and it is red when i check it. but, if i use the ss i extracted a long time ago, it is green. for some reason now i cannot get a correct ss when i extract it. Anyone know why?
