I am just covering everything before I try this tonight
When I type Samread yyyyyyy xxxxx <---serial # of course, It should read my original FW and save it to my bootable USB drive correct?

Yes
It will create a folder in the backup folder on your USB stick. In this folder will be your original FW
Did you create your bootable USB with Xtreme Bootmaker 0.3.1? if not you should do, its a pretty neat bit of kit.

I am going to use the boot maker yes......I just hope my MOBO has usb boot support
Its an asus an8-sli. I might have to update the bios now.....I decided not to put a floppy drive in. oops
