each version of san andreas has to use different game saves
for example v1.0 saves are incompatible with v2.0 versions of the game
the easiest thing for you to do is try a few differnt game saves

check the cover of your game. if it says "second edition" on the bottom, you got 2.0
it'll also say this on the disc.
also.... theres a way to change your game to read v1.0 game saves, but in doin so, it'll kill your current game saves.
if you wanna know more, check my tutorial here:

when i add a saved game, it usualy gets rid of the old saved file and then adds the new one but with san andreas when i add the new saved file it keeps the old san andreas file aswell so i now have two. If i delete the old one, when the game loads up its back at the start of the story.
Anyone know how to fix this?

first, really verify which version you have, then once you get direct FTP access, clean up the saves you don't need. heres the info you need to do it:
San Andreas V1.0-
Game save folder # = 54540082
gta3.img stock file size = 651 MB (683,229,184 bytes)
San Andreas V2.0-
Game save folder # = 545400a3
gta3.img stock file size = 650 MB (682,070,016 bytes)

well my gta.img is 650.47mb
and my saved file is 545400a4
so im taking it i got the second version??

yep, and currently all v1.0 saves are incompatible with the second edition. although the internal saves are nearly identical, rockstar had to add protection (more than likely cause of the "hot coffee" thing)
i can tell you right away, that second edition saves are pretty rare finds. what you can do though, is use my tut to patch your xbe file allowing it to read v1.0 saves.

is there any possible way that you could do it lol because i tried and couldnt do it
82_Z28
Oct 13 2006, 06:11 AM
i could do it, but i wouldn't be able to send you the resulting xbe for legal reasons. the closest possible solution i can give you is to write a step by step tutorial. and i've done that

what part exactly are you having trouble with?
what doesn't work? does the game crash? does the xbe patch?
more details would be nice

game crashes..culdnt u lyk..send it to me through private msg or something

Oct 13 2006, 08:48 PM
no, that would be illegal.
re-check your steps in the tutorial and make sure its a xbe freash from the disc, also make sure their are NO trainers enabled when testing it. this goes for any game trainer, not just gta

yeah i got no trainers on, san andreas just freshly copied to hdd and still cant get it to work
....y do i suk lol..

you said the game crashes...
what part does it crash at?
and be specific,
past the dashboard, into san andreas press start,
25% loading, loading game save, ect.

it sounds like you didn't patch the xbe file correctly.
one thing i almost forgot is when you said:

well i think ive got the first edition and its PAL
there is a seperate patch for that which would make your xbe a regieon free xbe.
try this ppf file instead:

what version is yours? if its pal, your solution could be the same.

dis may be a stupid question but how do you open PPF files
82_Z28
Oct 17 2006, 03:08 PM
you don't.
you use them with a tool like ppf-o-matic.
refer to my tutorial for more details.

im giving up on this i still cant get it to work like i got the program ppf-o-matic and opened it up
under ISO i put default.xbe and under patch i put that ppf file
i clicked apply and said that the patching was successful
i then FTPed the default.xbe back in my san andreas folder
i downloaded a saved game and uploaded it and deleted all other old san andreas saved games
and when i got into the game it started from the begenning of the story
so now i have given up on it
