I haven't heard anything from anywhere saying that there is 7 controller support for the PS3. I thought that it was a no-go. But now i read on the official PS3 specs page on us.playstation.com that it still does.

Seven blue tooth devices; i.e. controllers, keyboards, headsets, etc. I think the number of controllers used will most likely be limited by games.

A bluetooth device is called a "controller", where the PS3 sixaxis is a "pad". I am fairly certain that this is how Sony is wording things.

I thought that Sony later announced that it was actually four controllers.

I could be incorrect but I definitely remember reading it somewhere.

They may have, buy it is still confusing to look it up on their official website. If you didn't know the terms that Sony uses for their bluetooth tech, then its easy to get confused.

I wonder if they will ever have 7 sixaxis controller support for any game?

Soccer games. I'm sure there are a few more, but soccer is the only one I know of.

I know there are only four lights, but I thought it could support 7, depending on the game of course. Of course if this issue is that important somebody could always call or email Sony customer service.

It does support 7 controllers. I did a simple thing to test that out. Put any game in, doesn't matter if it's a PS3 game or not. Hold the PS button and the menu will open up. One of the options is to set the controllers position. I forget what they are all called but they are named something like 1/1a, 1/2a and so on. When you select them in order you can watch the lights on the controller change. The obvious ones are light 1 is lit, then 2, 3, and 4. After that, lights 4 and 1 are lit, then 4 and 2, and then 4 and 3. So yes it supports 7 controllers.
