Okay so I've cracked my 360 open and see i have a hitachi 047 drive. Tried connecting to my Asus P4800 deluxe MB and using Slak boot disk. Further reading my MB chipset does not support SATA CDROMS or DVD DRIVES so now i'm looking at the Team-Xecuter x360 external usb setup.
When using this do i still need to have the xbox providing power to the drive if so thats what I want (case mode for easy sata connection).
I really don't want to have to crack the xbox open everytime i want to make a backup.
Can anyone shine some light on this subject.....

the xecuter kit provides power to the dvd drive. If you want to have the xbox provide power for the dvd drive and still want usb, you can use something like this
http://www.thetechgeek.com/content/product.php?pid=9184.
there are lots of other sata and usb stuff though,
http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=sata+t...amp;btnG=SearchI use the first xecuter kit and i like it because it doesn't take up as much room because you can just power the dvd drive from your computer.

well I see the thing comes with its power adapter and what not.
But I don't want to use that I just want to use the sata to usb adapter.
Can't I use that and forget about ther power connector so I can simply have an extended SATA sticking out the case and use the xbox to power the drive?

you can just use the sata adapter with the xecuter kit but i don't know why you would spend 50 dollars when you could buy a sata to usb adapter for way less
but it probably would be easier to do a extended sata cable mod like you want with the xecuter sata to usb adapter because the sata cable on the sata to usb adapter i mentioned is very small.

So I can use just a generic usb to sata connector and windows will recognize it?
Just power it with the xbox and flash the sucker......
So does this mean I don't have to put it into Mode B????

I bought it. It was worth every penny.
It pays for itself the first time you blow out a backup instead of the original.
It's too simple to use, and you flash within minutes of cracking the system open. No resistors, no nonsense. Turn it on, flash, put it back.
I don't see why everyone dogs it. It's a great product and simple to use.
