no your rdl temporary has to also say dvd-rom not dvdr+dl. if your firmware is after xtreme3.1 then you dont need to worry about bitsettings, assumeing youhave a samsung

A. I don't recall reading anywhere that bitsetting isn't required with samsungs after FW3.1.
Please post your source.

I have a Sammy MS25 drive, and will be using Xtreme 4.2a.

My burner is the NEC 2510A, flashed with Mad Dog's 2F9 original Firmware, and i'll be using Verbatim 2.4-8x DVD+R DL discs (MKM001 media code).

read the read me with any version after 3.1in the extreme package.

(v4.2) Security Sector read order now based on actual PFI from disk resulting in faster better booting for backups.
