To attempt to backup and flash my DVD drive.

I have the TS-H943A with fw ms25

I got the xbox apart easily enough etc, made the boot disc, connected the xbox up to the pc. Booted the pc, ran mtkflash r /m orig.bin but it comes back to me saying it can't find any drives!!

In the PCs bios it has detected the drive there. I have plugged it into the Sata 1 port and disabled all IDE drives etc on the pc.

I have a Winfast 6100K8MA motherboard. I have also tried using the Nforce mtkflash etc.

I havn't got a clue how to get past this point to be honest!! Anyone got any ideas?? Is there an alternative to mtkflash?? Or some trick I need to do with my motherboard??

I downloaded Xtreme_firmware ( I think it was the original one?) , but I also have the latest download.

As an owner of a Hitachi DVD-ROM drive, I'm not familiar with the process of modifying the firmware of a Toshiba-Samsung drive. However, it sounds like your drive has not been properly set to modeb and therefore cannot be accessed by Windows or MS-DOS.

Did you forget to boot your computer with the Slax Live CD (or use the two-wire trick) to set the drive to modeb?

Like I said... I'm new to this mate.

The PC Bios can see the Xbox drive, simply not mtkflash.

I've been doing a little searching, reading that some people have had to edit mtkflash??

Any help here would be appreciated.

Don't listen to him, no offense qifanxi. Modeb doesn't really apply to the Samsung drives.

Sorry if I'm a little sloppy at writing this:

What you need to do is have Xtreme Boot Maker create an MTKFLASH and a bootdisc for you. This way MTKFLASH will recognize your chipset. Or you could hexedit MTKFLASH yourself if you know how. You then have the option of using the X360SAM(Somewhat complicated but it's more automated. You need to understand exactly what it's doing or you could lose track of important files it creates) created from XBM or just delete everything in the bootdisc except for the MTKFLASH(Easier but more manual. Easier to understand what files are created and flashed with) files.


I recommend using the newer Xtreme package(the one that says update) to make things easier and safer for the flashing process(such as using the "Make bin" file).

After flashing your drive, enable0800 burned onto a DVD +R DL will put your drive into 0800 mode for Windows recognition and for future MTKFLASH uses.

I've got the newer package with the 4.2a/b firmware etc, etc.

Was just using that older guide.

I'll give xtreme boot maker a bash and see what happens.

Do read the tutorials before attempting anything. Post back here with any questions and I'll try to make things more clearly for you.

Just read xtreme boot maker instructions...

1. Load your floppy disk or connect your USB Flash Drive. (optional)
2. Run Xtreme Boot Maker.
3. Detect your sata chipset, if required.
4. Select destination for files.
5. Open your Xtreme Firmware's .bin file.
6. Click "Prepare Drive".
7. Boot from your prepared drive or your NTFS cd.
8. Type "samread xxxxxxx xxxxx" to backup your 360's original firmware.
9. Type "samhack xxxxxxx xxxxx" to flash the Xtreme firmware.
(Dont include the quotes, and replace x with your 360's firmware.)

I don't understand what steps 8 and 9 are...

What do you put in place of the x's in each step?

the x's will be your serial number on your xbox 360 case/don't for get the space when you type it in

Just started Xtreme boot maker....

When I select use custom MTKflash it has the following....

Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller
Primary IDE Controller
Secondary IDE controller
Standard Dual Channle PCI IDE Controller

Secondary IDE Channel
SCSI/RAID Host controller

When I select detect ID - I/O the only thing that brings up any value is the Standard Dual Channle PCI IDE Controller, which isn't correct is it??

When I open MSINFO32 I can goto SCSI (which I assume is where the SATA is?)

It then says...

What about my problem?? I'm stuck and I'm not gonna pay some local chap £40 to do it for me!!! Argh!

Ok... made a boot disc with xtreme boot maker. Just selected the only option that it would work with.

I think it's worked. It gave me an option of 2 channels once I ran the boot disc. xtreme master, xtreme slave. Or something like that.

I then, pressed "1". It said reading...... it went from 0 to 100% a few times while writing to the floppy.

So as far as I'm aware it actually worked.

That's part 1 finished with anyway.... now I need to flash the bugger!!

Before you flash the 360, I would check the orig.bin file in windows with Xbox 360 FW Toolbox to be sure you dumped the FW from the right device. Just in case(I've seen someone screw up and ended up flashing the 360 DVD drive with a bad FW).

it was the only device connected, so I can only assume it was correct?

Plus when it started reading the fw, the front light on the xbox started flashing on and off slowly.
