what if you were to take the pc source and edit it so it would run on xbox (take out bump mapping, edit controls), compile it, and use the new xbe to load mods.

Uh, no. Not only would you need the Source Engine code to do this, you'd have to have the Xbox version of the Source Engine code, which I don't believe Valve has even licensed. Mod code wouldn't compile to Xbox format at all let alone work.

HEY, THAT'S A GREAT IDEA!As a matter of fact, I've already started modding my open-source copy of HL2 this afternoon. I've already taken out the bump mapping (honestly, who needs
that?) although I'm having some trouble porting the D-Pad to the default PC controls. Aside from that, I'll post some WIP screenshots tomorrow and release the beta on Monday or Tuesday.

For real?
Thats great, you mean like a port of the pc version to xbox right?
because if it would work, then you could get the pc mods to run on the xbox by replacing files, or porting steam, lol
But seriously if this works it would be a good step for Half life 2 on xbox
