Hi. I've was going thru the forum earlier and I've been noticing the amount of spam posts has risen extremely high, especially in the Xbox 1 General Hardware/Technical Chat area. I've also seen more spam on a few other forums I'm on, so this site's not alone in that respect.

I was just wondering, would IP address banning or maybe making new users wait 24 hours before posting possibly help? Or maybe making the user type in a word in an image (think it's called Capcha) when posting. I dunno. Just thought I'd bounce the question around and see what sticks to the wall.

Later,

Ive noticed an abundance of spam recently too, I'm forever hitting the report button, especially with some of the really explicit pornography ones, i mean there's kids on this site.

It's a shame that half the time there are no mods active when they come, but they get to them eventually. I reckon the spam times itself laugh.gif

Word/number verification could be a good idea upon registration.

IP addresses do get banned but remember the admin here have ALOT to do with regards to member management, site management etc, ad of course they have their lifes to get on with.

Yeah, those spam bots have been pretty bad lately.
IP bans usually don't work since they're behind a proxy.

Just continue reporting every piece of spam you come across and we'll take care of it as soon as we can.
You should see my inbox. blink.gif

It is being implemented already. Otherwise, you'd probably see even more spam.

I've been clicking the report button more than the post button recently.

I think it's a general thing, it's running rampant on a few other forums. However, in these cases the general populus are so incredibly stupid they don't realise that it's a spam bot laugh.gif

Yeah i agree with grim, if a number / letter verification for signing up could be put in, it would be a good idea when joining the forum, as that 'should' really help crack down on the spam bots.

I too have noticed huge ammounts of spam, they seem to come on well in the UK day time, so all the guys in the US etc aren't around to deal with it.

Could do with some guys to be around in the UK time zone or there abouts as it seems to get hit often around then.

I usually hit all the daytime spammers. HSDEMONZ can confirm how many the mods catch, by how many bans he issues to these pests. Loads you never even get to see as mods who sweep the forum when they log in kill off the vast proportion.
Unfortunately spam seems to be a parasite of todays electronic communications world. I average 1500 a day in my e-mails because of the domains I own and the sites I have running with visible contact details.
IPs are shitlisted and blocked all the time here..
Keep hitting report don't reply in the spam thread as it only serves to bump it up the list smile.gif

Agreed.

I get the same thing, BTW.

I swept through the Xbox General Hardware forum, and there was a TON of it in there...more than usual. I think I knocked-out about 15 at that one point, just off of the front page (my view is set higher than default, though.
Heck, while I was handling that, 2 more were added. laugh.gif

I think I was about to report those, but before I could, they mysteriously vanished! smile.gif

I have the habit of checking the General Hardware/Technical Chat forum before others, so I usually get to report quite a few of those smiley-faced spam topics.

Yes, hopefully, we should see less spam bots if everything goes well. I think all mods here have gotten their hands full with this damn spam. Like it was said, keep reporting those topics.

I've also noticed that most of the spam have a " smile.gif " icon for the thread so they are usually easy to spot even without looking at the topic.
