I'm quite a noob to the 360 and to media center as well, but not computers. I have connected my 360 to a Buffalo wireless adapter and my computer to my wireless router. Everything on xbox live works fine, my computer and my 360 can communicate fine and when i run the network optimization tool on both the 360 and my MCE in windows vista everything is maxed out in terms of connection. But using the menus in MCE on my 360 is INSANELY slow. Just moving between music and tv menus takes upwards of 30 seconds. Even once I get to a music folder to play mp3s, it takes a while after I click the button before it decides to start playing. I don't have any other lag issues and everything streams fine, it's just the menus that are slow.
I'm wondering if I need to disable some setting that forces my 360 to rescan every folder or what? I really like the idea of having my music library on my main stereo, but I can't stand spending 20 minutes waiting for menus to respond.
Does anyone else have this problem, and how might I go about trouble shooting it.
Thanks in advance.

someone has to have had the same problem. I tried moving all of my music to one hard drive thinking maybe that it was due to having scattered mp3s, but now it works even slower. When trying to access my music in media center it hangs for upwards of a few minutes sometimes not responding at all.
I am able to access my music using media player 11 and xbox 360 by going to the Music section instead of media center, but when I try to play some music it comes back with error code:
19-04-80004005
and it tells me to go to www.xbox.com/support and use that error code to find the problem. Searching xbox.com for that error code I got nothing.
Can someone please help me troubleshoot this. I got a 360 to be able to access my music, pictures and movies, and am getting extremely frustrated that it is not working right.

It might be because you are going from wireless to wireless. Is it a strong wireless signal. Media Center is kinda slow on the xbox anyways. You can also try tversity. Then you can access your music from the 360 instead of media center. It's also quicker. Here are some links. Remember to set the port on the firewall for tversity.
To download tversity go herestep by step guide to get it working with the 360

Same problem as OP, my music collection and movie collection is on a seperate hd so it should be faster than sharing a folder on a drive running apps and a os.
I'm also using the cable to network my 360, the thumbnails for movies and music take a age to load (the album covers don't show when view cover is selected either).
All In all not impressed with MCE Extender.

Well this is the message i`m currently posting on some mce boards...:
I got a desktop with vista 64 ultimate rtm and a laptop with vista 32 ultimate rtm.
My laptop is a dell 820, (2,13 dual core, 2 gig internal)
My desktop is a Dual 2 core E6600 with the best 2 gig i could find.
And a xbox 360 as extender.
I made a music library of 8500 files with all tag`s in it. around 400 albums all with album art.
I tried this on both computer, i have a switch GB network.
MCE on both my desktop and laptop are working fine. As a test i putted my total library on both my computers. so i`m not working with shared media folders.
When i use my xbox 360 as an extender without the library on it, it works flawless.
But when i add my library on it the problems start.
Navigation is lagged like crazy, sometimes 15 seconds just to move from one album to another.
It is basicly unworkable...
But the strange thing is under the same hw with windows xp mce i dont have any problems at all..
It seems to be that how longer i wait after starting up my xbox (like 30 minutes) the faster it gets.
Does anybody have got the same problems....

I have the same problem I think. I am running Vista on a athlon 4200 and connecting to Media Center on a wired network. I have all of my media stored on an external USB 2.0 drive. My problem is that whenever I connect the 360 to Media Center, it takes a good 5 minutes and once it connects, neither my remote or controller will work for another 5 minutes. Once I finally get in, navigation through the media is not that bad, but the painful connection really makes my miss my XBMC.

I've only tried using the media extender for browsing my recorded shows, and I remember the menus were really, really slow. My solution? I stopped using MCE, hehe. It does add MPEG2 support, but I don't really have anything in MPEG2 so the 360's standalone media functionality works for me. My PC is fast and hard wired, as is the 360.

changing from a wireless network to wired completely solved every problem you've described that I was encountering.
for MCE, I fully recommend a wired network.

I had the same problem. It was driving me crazy but i learned to deal with it. One day i decided to upgrade the memory on my computer (not even thinking about my Xbox) from 1gb to 3gb and now Media Center is lightning fast.

FYI - I had the same problem (annoyingly slow response times on Xbox 360 Media Center connected wirelessly to Vista 64-bit) and I think I found a solution. I increased the priority of all processes for the Media Center user (Mcx1). After I set them all to High, the response time was much better. There are still a few pages/functions that are a bit slow, but that may be due to network lag. The menus are all working as expected.
Manually setting the process each time you start MC is a pain, but I found a freeware program that lets you set the default priority of processes:
http://www.bitsum.com/prolasso.phpIt's worth a try - I had almost given up on my Xbox MC until I discovered this.

Hey everyone.
I signed up to this forum just to let everyone know the solution someone else found to this problem. I tried it and it worked. Full credit goes to corkman888 from techarena who found out this solution.
The problem is a router problem. MCE tried to connect on a 1GBit connection and the switch/router doesn't have larger enough buffer bla bla bla I don't know the details

. Anyway, switching your ethernet card to communicate at 100Mbps Full duplex fixes the problem. Or you can turn on Flow control to stop the buffer overflowing. This link shows how to fix the problem.

I really hope this helps fix the problem for at least one person because this annoyed me for ages. If you find this fixes your problem please post this on other forums where people have the same issue so everyone can enjoy MCE as it should be
