Zune has alot of new features, I particularly like the custom wallpapers and local sharing with music stuff. I DO NOT LIKE the fact that the Zune only comes in 30GB, as iPod just released an 80GB model, and I am all about space.

I voted zune,though.
CHAOSWEAV3R
I vote for Zune. Purely because I hate iPod and Zune has more features that appeal to me.

Slashdot is linking to an article that states:

"Market share data for the first month of Microsoft's Zune sales is now available, and appears to confirm that after the initial hype, sales have fallen off dramatically. Microsoft came in fourth for sales during the month of November with only 1.9% of the market. Apple remained unchanged at 62.2%, and SanDisk even managed to increase to 18.4% (looks like the Zune might not even be able to compete with the rest of the market, let alone the iPod). The one surprise though is that the brown Zune is apparently not only being bought, but more popular than the white model."

wow, a biased microsoft poll on a microsoft forum. How did you expect it to go. Zune is a joke, a bulky nerdy joke. Sharing music 3 times. lol.

Ipod rules. and when the widescreen ipod is released the zune will go the way of microsofts other disaster Ultimate TV, remember that?

Oh course you dont.

Remember the Xbox?

Xbox Live.

maybe you can remember DOS?

there's also Windows.

did I mention the whole MSN network?

who the hell votes for the Zune!!!
it looks like a brick and has totally no coolness

ipod video or nano nothing else

oh yeah i forgot...

Zune = for nerds

Apple = Great

and when they finally release the iPhone they'll take over the mobile phone industry just like they rule the mp3 industry

I do like Microsoft's xbox 360 though!

In person it looks awesome - the screen stands out so amazingly you notice it

for the blockiness, I can say they did a great job with the amount of stuff they fit inside
gamemaster14
there should be an option for neither.
dyinman
If I had to choose between those two, as if they are the only two media players on this planet, I'd go with the Zune. Why? Cuz I'm sick of iShit.
Reaper527
i'm personally holding off for the iPhone, but since its not on the poll, i said zune partially due to the amazing screen that it has.
The*galloping*zebra
I'm all for the iPod, I also admire Jonathon Ive as a designer, The Zune's design looks too Art Deco for me

IMO, iPods are a status icon. They're screens are shit, they break really easy. I have a creative zen vision: m. Very nice, longer battery life, better screen, and looks good. The zune got my vote though, it kicks ass too.

I don't want to vote for the zune because I don't think that The Zune is going to take off too fast and I don't really care for it that much
mostly because of the silly WiFi file sharing thing where the files are destroyed after 3 days
That's flippin retarded

I don't want to vote for any of the Ipods because I happen to think that It's not the best PMP out there.
It pisses me off to great extents when people use Ipod in place of MP3 player...
want a nano? get a frickin' SanDisk 8GB
it at least has a replacable battery

I sold my Ipod Video 60 GB because I really couldn't stand it
someone gave it to me as a gift
and I sold it and bought a 30GB Zen Vision:M
so far it's been treating me very well:)
the fact that I don't have to convert my videos all the time is very convenient
and the screen is awesome
when i was in Germany I was able to record the Radio and bring it back to show my friends how silly it sounded
I also got the chance to go hang out with a Heavy Metal band in Germany
By the name of Cataphractus if you're interested
they have a myspace... but I forget what the link is
and yea.. the Microphone let me record them while they practiced
Brought that back
I only wish that the mic could have handled the amount of noise
I tried to cover it with something to muffle the sound... but it didn't work
They just rocked way too much sad.gif

And yea...
I left with only a 128MB memory stick for my camera...
I took a lot of pictures
I was able to use my Zen Vision as a cool storage device...
and I was able to use it to look @ the pictures aswell

when I first arived in Germany, I couldn't speak ANY German
so to do complex things on a computer was hard
I knew some of the menus but not all of them.
I put some portable apps on my Zen Vision and was able to run them through the player.

I know that an Ipod can do all these things... but one thing I was the most glad about...
I was no longer attatched to iTunes.
The god awful P.O.S. software that sucked up all my PC resources...
and didn't do anything I wanted
I think i can safely say that iTunes was the worst piece of Software that I've ever used in my whole life
and It would have killed me if I continued to use it.

Every day I'm thankful that I don't have to deal with it
It's like my ex-girlfriend
I mean... I loved her...
but she wasn't everything I needed from a girl
and her insane mother was kinda the extra little thing that made me want out
and every day I'm thankful that I don't have to deal with her anymore

so I guess I'll go with the Zune
mosher111
i have had my hands on both, i personally think they are both garbage. They make better mp3/video players. It may not be made by aPle or m$ but they do everything those do and more... what fun is 30+ gig of portable storage if you can only put media on it?

I want to be able to use the storage. I know you can mod them or in the zunes case trick it into letting you but thats useless. Anyhow if you wanna spend money go with the zune over the p.o.s. oops i meant zune. it does have a nice screen. biggrin.gif
kmkings311
Had a Zune for about 14 hrs before I took it back. Could only take so much pissin' w/ the software before I wanted to cry. Givin, Itunes isn't the greatest program, atleast it works.

Zune will be 10x better when the fix all the bugs. Give it a yr.

Yeah, Itunes is terrible...Anapod is a much better program interface. I cannot stand auto-sync on iTunes.

I do want the Zune when they crack the firmware, someone has been working on several applications for it already (portable WiFi Mass Storage Device for PSP's using certain homebrew applications, I could store tons of games, music, and video without buying a huge memory stick smile.gif)

That Cowon looks pretty nice too smile.gif

i have an Ipod video but my vote is deff. for the Zune!

from what i hear it is way better. i am going to get one when i get the money
bff_foeva
see to get the right ipod u want, theres many ipods to select from, with a zune, its 1 product, that's REALLY great, ZUNE FTW!
highbomber
Zune's are great. For the price it has everything I need. And until homebrew stuff comes out or Microsoft comes out with updates I have no problem converting my videos.

The only time I listen to music is in the car or on the computer. Guess what, in my car, my deck has a USB port so I can just plug my flash drive right into it. That's my "mp3 player."

Are they cool little devices? Sure. Would I use it? No. Are they worth the price tag? I don't think so.

sorry, i meant portable mp3 players are overrated. I agree, a computer (which is a "mp3 player") isn't overrated tongue.gif
eebeejay
My choice is Zune. But I want a 60gig+, so I'll probably wait a bit longer.

But the best thing is that since the Zune is out now, it'll force better Ipods to surface in the future (not that they're bad now). The competition between the two will result in better products from both. Because in my opinion the Zune is the first true competitor for the Ipod.

I think you may be mildly retarded.... Anywho, since I only have an iPood so I can only comment on it. I've had issues with freezing once in a while and I don't like not being able to drag n' drop with it but it's worked very well for over a year and it's worth the money to me since I own so many cd's. Portable video is pretty useless but it is nice to have. I am planning to get a new player soon, but I don't think I'll be getting either one of these devices the next time mainly because of the limitations on both such as dn'd and format limitations.

I love my Archos GMINI... all the power of playing DIVX, XVID, MP3s and much more ....LONG before the video crap-pod came out. It works well and it is treated as a standard USB storage device... Great for putting files on for moving between multiple computers.

Screw the crappod and the zune wannabe. If they actually did something impressive *AND* came at a reasonable price, then I'd give them some respect... otherwise they are just out there to bilk you of precious dollars. The Archos products are what I go towards.

You have a great point, they are both way overpriced! I only got an iPod because I got it for free, I will get a Zune (for free) as soon as they crack the firmware.

The songs are in MP3 format. iTunes wanted to convert any songs being put on the iPod. Simply copying songs to the iPod stores them but does not let you play them. What kind of sh!t is that? Let me ask you this. Is iTune or iPod Access going to take these 300 album playlists and use them to put the correct songs on the iPod like WMP will do for most other mp3 players? iTunes is a Macintosh program that should have stayed there. I'm sick of this exclusivity these companies want for their products. Who cares what program I use as long as I'm using your product? That's why my choice was for the zen. Not to mention you can play any type of video, not that stupid ipod crap. Also I have yet to see an iPod with a built in radio... something very important for people living on base.

BTW... not everyone needs to carry around 60GB of song files. After all, you're not going to listen to those in one day, one week, and probably not even in one month. 30GB is more than enough for most people unless you got a music library completely 100% independent of a Mac/PC.

Please use an iPod for more than 5 minutes before bashing it. No conversion is needed, nor does iTunes bug you to convert Mp3 files. I can play music thats on my iPod without issue on my Mac, Windows, and Linux (well may a little bit of an issue on Linux, but what isn't really?). There are more pain in the ass ways to go about it, but you can play music off the iPod in iTunes. Just tell that machine you want to manually manage song files on the iPod. The iPod does almost everything else your gripeing about (video needs to be down-converted anyways, and radio is useless), but it's easier I guess to just piss on something with never using it (iTunes is NOT required to use an iPod on any OS for full functionality outside of purchased files PERIOD).

60GB? I can fill that, but I don't. 10-20gigs is random files, music & videos. Plenty of uses for that space. Oh, and a very small percentage of the market gives a flying crap about having an FM tuner in their MP3 player. MP3 players are there to get you off the FM tit, and if your "on base" you can pick up any number of cheap FM tuners. Less than 5% of the market would use such a useless feature. It's like complaining your CD player doesn't have a record player. Sure a few people would like it, but it's functionally useless.

Sorry, I haven't fed a troll in a while. They need love too these holidays. jester.gif

I bought a video ipod about a month ago, and the only slight complaint i have with it is the battery life when watching videos........
TheIceman72
Alrighty now I have two ipods and just got a zune. What I can say is this, Apple has had many years at getting the ipod to where it is now. This is Microsoft's first try. For the First try, it is amazing. The unit itself has a awsome interface. The quality of the screen is awsome. It just feels more user friendly. Now the computer software is not my favorite. But hey neither is iTunes. I hate iTunes with a passion and I refuse to use it. I use EphPod. Now the Zuze software I think is a little better than iTunes. For me it is more straight forward. But thats me. As far as buying music. Personally I could care less about that. I dont buy electronic music. I do like the possibilities of the Wifi. It would be nice if I could just drop music on it like a HD. But thats not a big deal because putting my own music on the Zune is mad easy and very fast. Same thing goes for movies and photos. Now unlike many people I did not have problems installing the software and getting it to work. I really dont know how people could have gotten that wrong. As far as USB problems, well the people that are having those problems...thats your computer and not the Zune. So maybe you need to update your drivers or get a new USB 2.0 card.

So again over all I think the Zune was a great investment. Now I will be selling both of my iPods.

My Black Video Ipod rocks, it's the best gadget I've ever bought I think, I'm glad to, I don't like Zune's DRM, Ipod DRM is just right (AAC)..

Just got a Creative Zen V Plus, and well happy loads of features to keep you happy and not OTT like some other gadgets.

Signed up to Major Nelson's Podcast and a few other, I'd rather support Creative anyday over M$ and Apple.

What's with the lack of options on this poll?

If I'm going on a long trip, I'm going to bring my laptop. I can play all the music I want that way.
What I look for in a portable MP3 player isn't 1200 hours of music. It's portability.

I have an iPod (4G), but it sits on my desk collecting dust. It's too big and bulky to take on a jog, or use at the grocery store.

I have an MP3 Watch. It's always there, and it serves a functional purpose besides playing music.

atleast 2 better options then both of them

creative ZM (most functional), toshiba gigabeat (tighter then the ipod, with a fm tuner)

if you hack the wifi and unrestrice the drm bullshit, then thats another story
--DANNY--
I have both an iPod Video 30GB and an iPod Nano 2GB 1st Gen.
I love them both!

But I've played around with the Zune and just after 5 minutes in the store, I fell in love with it. I ordered one online for $220 when I got home and I should be getting it via FedEx today! I'll be selling my iPod Video because the Zune is far superior.

My Nano however will be kept for it's small size, although I'm gonna sell it in a few months.

According to FedEx tracking, my package is out for delivery right now. Can't wait to get it!

I'm not quite sure how a Zune would be for nerds though... that's like saying WindowsXP is for Nerds and Linux and OSX are for non-nerds... hmm...

iPod is better for sure. Itunes pwns WMP, same disc space(30gb 4 me) but its smaller. That wifi and fm radio make the zune huge compared to the ipod and are pointless, 3 plays wow thats amazing and the whole point in an mp3 player,cd player, type player etc. is so you dont have to listen to the radio. Plus no wheel. The only the zune has is its album art looks sick besides that ipod does a better job of being portible.
LumpKin666
Can't say that I have a preference. I think each has their benefits based on what you want to use them for. I actually bought a shuffle, an 8gig nano, and a zune this holiday season. The shuffle is great for a bunch of songs that you can load up and roll with - without worrying about the player.. it's cheap, TINY, and durable.. perfect to roll with the tunes and go. The nano is great for a few games, loads more music, a viewable interface, and still small enough to toss in a pocket and go .. just gotta worry about the screen, so it's a little more cumbersome. The zune has a fabulous screen size - great for video.. and lots of space for movies and mp3. Its great for everything, except space and "pocketability".
