I was wondering if there was any way to put a bigger hard drive on the 360. If not can you use a external hard drive connected through usb ports. I called microsoft to ask them about the external but they said it
would work but i wouldnt be able to save game on it just music and pictures. Is there a way to add a bigger
hard drive.
Thanks

sorry but not right now.
they were clams they did on a Dev Box but even if they did thats a long way away to getting it to work on a retail 360.
about the external HD. you can use as large of one as you want but the 360 doesnt write to it. it will only read so you have to load everyone from your PC onto the HD.

What kind of drive does the 360 use anyway? Is it like some kind of funky 1.8" drive or something? I don't see why we can't just crack open the hdd case and pop in a new one...

beacuse it has some kind of lock code that bonds it to the motherboard, and if the code doesnt match then the ... oh wait thats the dvd drive...
hmm... mabye it also has some kind of harddrive lock code exclusive to the 360, beaucse i rmemeber original xbox hdd's had to be locked and unlocked, mabye the one on the 360 is locked and encrypted or somthing?

It doesn't have a lock code to the motherboard. If it did, you wouldn't be able to take your HD to another 360 or take a 360 HD and plug it into any 360 off the shelf. The HD's themselves have some certain coding in the starting sectors though that identifies them though to the 360 along with size, etc and that hasn't been cracked yet to allow any HD to be used. You can use an external for music, pictures and movies (since the last major update) but that's it at the moment.

about what kind of HD the 360 has. its a standerd laptop type HD so once they do crack how it locks all you would have to do is buy a large laptop HD.
hopefully it will be soon but who knows

i have a theory that maybe billie gates thought of evry thing u could do and came up with 1 trick until they work out a way to block all 3rd party hard drives they will just have it in the x360 firmware\dashboard\any were they could put it a code that only lets the 20gb drives run until they release a new drive and do an updates

just a thought

I'm sure that soon enough, a 3rd party hdd will be available. Basically, people will fill up their 20GB HD's with music and movies, and not want to delete stuff, and when the demand is high enough, we'll see larger ones emerge. Once this happens, it's *possible* that we'll have a hack for it. To say the least, we could more than likely clone the larger stock one and it'd work on just those sizes.
Either way, the reason we can't use it is because there's a signature that validates the hdd to the 360. Withouth finding a way to re-create that signature or run unsigned code, we're stuck where we are.
