Today i was introduced to a new friend off work.... went back to his house with some mates and there it was, a shiny platinum gamecube that he imported from overseas.... using the freeloader he put on zelda, resident evil zero and mario party 4 and monkey balll .... duh...
First, honestly i don't have a gamecube yet... although i have played some of its games during those promotional pre-launch titles like rogue leader and stuffs.... i didn't like it then and due also to constant forum bashing and reviews that stamped the cube as nothing but a child's console...well, i thought i had it out of my mind till today! ...
Gosh, .. imho, although fewer killer titles than the xbox, ... those few are more than enough to satisfy me at least for a long time ! and i have been searching ebay and online for a good deal ! ...heheh...
Those of ya who have the cube please come forward, .... i don't want to regret my decision to buy (haven't bought yet though)... so i need some re-assurance that IT WILL be a worth buy ..please... need those 'excuses' and arguements coz some of my friends are die-hard xbox OR ps2 fanboys hahah... after this, i would have three of the best consoles for 3d gaming and one old king of 2d console - dreamcast ! hehe....

ooh, almost forgot. I have a friend with an xbox and a gamecube as well.. He's the kind of guy who rents games, and if he likes it, he buys it.
He's had the gamecube since its launch date, but only had an xbox for 3-4 months. He has 2 gamecube games and 10 xbox games.

Note: the two games he has for gamecube are also available on xbox.
Note2: his gamecube is also boxed up, and xbox is in living room

No doubt in my mind that the Xbox is better ... plus you can do all these cool things with it
The only thing the cube is missing IMHO is Super Mokey Ball - ohhhhh I love that

i dont care much for the gamecube aside from the resident evil games, ikaruga, and wind waker. nothing else has caught my interest.

I agree, I think if I had the money I would buy a GC just for Super Monkey Ball. That is indeed a sweet game.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as Kaioshade.
I have a Cube that has sat dormant ever since beating Metroid Prime. I haven't even opened Wind Waker yet - too many games on the Xbox that I've been playing. I'm interested in getting Resident Evil Zero, and seeing if Ikaruga is any different from the Dreamcast version. As of now, I have only 6 games:
Mario Sunshine
Metroid Prime
Resident Evil
Starfox Adventures
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Zelda: Wind Waker
Personally, I'd wait a while before getting a Cube. You'd only be getting the exclusive games for it, since the cross-platform games seem to be better for either the Xbox or PS2. There seem to be some pretty interesting games coming out in the Fall/Winter season for it, and by that time, many of the exclusives that make the Cube worth owning will be nicely priced. As of right now, you'd probably get only a couple games for it, beat them in a couple weeks, and end up letting your Cube collect dust like so many folks did with their Nintendo 64s back in the day.
The Panasonic Qube is a
really cool peace of gaming hardware, but in the end, its still a Gamecube, and until you can find yourself 10 decent titles that you'll play on a fairly regular basis, it would basically end up being a really tight looking DVD player, that just happens to play Cube games.

Edit: DOH! You're talking about the platinum colored Gamecube. I thought you were looking for a Qube. Different beasts. My bad.

hell yeah thanks guys for the opinions .... wait a while would be a wise choice unless someone takes me out to a mall or a friend's house that IS a nintendo fan then i would be wiped out, stoned and he would lure me into paying for a cube...hehe
for me, cross platform games, i only buy xbox games hehe obvious is it? and for ps2, well for their exclusives what else.. even though now we find that some of those 'exclusives' are coming for the xbox but then again, the incentive to play them just diminishes.... eg, GTA series, i have played them numerous times and gotten sick of killing civillians hahahah......so i am not buying the xbox version unless there's like something REALLY REALLY REALLY NEW !
And now the cube issue, no i wouldn't even touch the panasonic qcube hehe... UNLESS of course someone comes up with the idea of hacking it and allowing legal ppl/owners to make backups of cube games.... heheh ... having another dvd player in the house is erm .... no point! , i've got 2 ps2s, 1 xbox, 2 pcs with total of 3 dvd capable optical drives lol ... even if the cube plays dvd movies...i wouldn't be bother.... set-top boxes are better i think..
As for monkey ball, yeah man.... fuking addictive !!! well, i guess if one can afford it as the saying goes, ... games are meant to be played and so if you like the game, go for it ! .. many ppl i know bought ps2 for mgs2 alone!.... currently, i am dreaming of zelda, monkey ball and a few other interesting titles... and i am quite confident that even getting 5-6 killer titles for the cube would easily justify my 'decision' of getting the cube.... However the reality is that, i am listening to you guys and some other advice that i should wait a while.....hmm....
ever pop into this website?
MagicBox this site has news about every interesting titles for most consoles ... u guys should check out what's coming out for the xbox, ps2 and cube!
kind regards

I love my gamecube, I've barley even played any games on my xbox since I got my cube about 4 weeks ago, what makes the gamecube so good are it's console specific games, both Metrios Prime and Zelda Wind Waker are 2 of the best games I have EVER played, I'm also addicted to Super Smash Bros. Melee wich has to be the best multiplayer fighting game ever (I know it looks kidie, but damn is it fun!). Nintedo still knows how to make games with that special old-school fealing. Not to say I don't love my xbox, I just havn't had time play anything on it lately. My cube sits perched on top of my xbox like a little buddie

hehe I have all 3 systems.. ps2/xbox/cube.
i only have a few games for cube which include zelda and metriod prime. Now those two games are wroth buying a gamecube for. But after you beat them you beat them.... Super smash brother melay is fun for multiplayer.
Now the reason I am keeping the gamecube
MARIO KART DOUBLE DASH!!! I am all about this game when it comes out:
http://www.nintendo.com/e32k3/games/ninten...iokart_feat.jspone thing with MKDD is that they are bringing out an adaptor to hook up at least 2 GC's together to be able to heavy mulit player kart. It has been stated it will do at least 2 GC's. BUT possible it might do 4. Now that will be really cool if you ask me. 16 Player Mario Kart? Dream..

Also F-Zero GX:
http://www.nintendo.com/e32k3/games/ninten.../fzero_feat.jspNew Starfox:
http://www.nintendo.com/e32k3/games/ninten...ox2kq7_feat.jspCheck out a bunch of new games coming to the cube soon:
http://www.nintendo.com/e32k3/index.jspDon't get me wrong I love my xbox, but still some things to look foward to that only GC will have.

i though f-zero is coming out for ps2 as well?... or did i get my info wrong from some lousy friends? hehe... correct me..
right now, i am playing zelda

... hooray ... i never thought it's so good seriously...
Kinda makes me wonder the power of the mini-dvd discs.... is it me or is it somehow a nintendo trick that the gcube seems to have very very fast load times???...

ok i had a gamecube before buying an xbox
gamecube games i own
=====================
Metroid => average game, fun at first but got boring, no replay value, ending sucked
Nba Street vol.1 => great game (killing the vol2 on xbox now thought

)
Eternal Darkness => Now were talking, probably the best game i played on the cube
Resident Evil 1 => Great game, played the original but still had fun with this one
Zelda bonus disk => already played the original, didnt bother with it
Zelda win waker => real cool but didnt play much lately cause of xbox
Mortal Kombat deadly alliance=> not that great, played it for a couple of week and got bored, still 3 characters to unlock..
=====================
Its a cool system and its not really expensive.
Just dont have time to play it anymore for now ( too much things to play on xbox )
but im still looking foward some exclusive.. Like the next silicon knight game and final fantasy.
YOU HAVE TO TRY ETERNAL DARKNESS, its a must BEST GAMECUBE GAME IN MY OPINION.

Well gamecube is pretty cheap. Like $150 with 2 controllers and what 2 games? (Zelda and another one u can pick from a list of like 3) Not bad.

Mshake, I always thought F-Zero was a Nintendo-only title. Haven't tried the 'cube version yet - I still love the SNES version!

(played on my Xbox now, of course!)
I don't think there's anything wrong with the 'cube at all, it's a good console - just the strict Nintendo licensing thing that goes on. Nintendo have made two of the best consoles ever before the 'cube, they do know a thing or two about gaming. They did their homework and saw that it's not all about how many polygons you can throw around, they opted for visual effects like mist, water etc. Not a bad pay-off, in my opinion.
BUT! The main reason I bought my 'cube was because of Resident Evil (remake), and Resident Evil Zero, and future Resident Evil games (you can probably tell by my nick). I'll buy any console that these come games out on.
At the end of the day though, I bought my 'cube for Resident Evil, but I use and bought my Xbox for one reason at first - to play media and emulators. And now, I prefer playing games on the Xbox.
I have all four cool consoles (yes I still love the Dreamcast!), Xbox, PS2, Gamecube and Dreamast. Which do I play/use the most? Xbox.
As with all consoles, I think it's just something you have to try, and if you like it buy it, if not - don't... simple as that.

Am I the only one who really liked Mario sunshine?
That game had such sweet freedom of movement.
We never regretted picking up a cube, many great titles, for people of
any age.
Anyone who is turned off of the cube merely due to graphics really needs to ask themself why they are playing video games and not going outside.
You won't find more realistic graphics than reality.

The only and main problem I have with Gamecube, is the fact that Nintendo sold Rare to MS. Rare made almost every good game on both the SNES and N64, and I think it was a stupid, stupid move by Nintendo to give them to the highest bidder.
Ahhh well, at least I can play Conker/Banjo Kazooie/Perfect Dark on my Xbox now without having to buy another console

Own all 4 consoles as well and must admit, the Cube has been unused since I beat Resident Evil 0 (which is a great game) I bought the Cube because it's pretty cheap and they are constantly giving away free games when you buy one. That's how I got RE 0. I believe Resident Evil 4 is Cube exclusive and from the screen shots I saw of that game, it looks incredible.
At the time I thought there was going to be several Cube exclusive games in the future, like Killer 7 and a few other Capcom games, but I then read right after I bought it that those games would be multiplatforms.

For me, Nintendo have some great killer titles but not the machine either for them, or for real players.
My guess will be that sooner or later, Nintendo will be like Sega, get out of business and keep their great titles.
Wether that is good or not, that is not the point of the discussion.
I have my XBOX, and every party with my friend are with it! One of my friends have both GC and PS2, and no killer titles kept us playing like all the games on my Xbox hd ;-)

sorry haven't been reading this thread i started a while .,..hehe.. been busy ... finishing eternal darkness, zelda (with bonus disk) and RE 0 and RE 1 ....
sometimes the problem i have with ps2 or xbox is that.... some games that i bought are simply something that collect dust in the closet or rack.... coz most of the time i don't play them and end up selling them cheap in ebay....
i used to love racing/driving simulation for ps2 and xbox till donno when i have had enough of them... just cars and tracks nothing more... it's considered boredom... lol... at least the cube managed to entertain me with great stories and gameplay....for now.

I love my Gamecube. I've wasted many hours playing Wind Waker, Metroid, Animal Crossing and Eternal Darkness.
I bought both RE:Zero and Star Fox Adventures at Blockbuster for 20 bucks each. The guys that do RE really need to do something different. The gameplay is EXACTLY the same as RE games done years ago.
I've wasted many more hours playing my modded Xbox.
My PS2 sits on the dresser in my bedroom. Haven't plugged it in since the days of SOCOM(great game). Probably won't pull it out until SOCOM 2 comes out.

wow... Like almost all those games you were talking about I've played for the cube.. My friend has a cube and I have a xbox (which I broke after a few days.. I need to get around to fixing it but I work and sleep too much) He just leaves his gamecube at my house and his games.. we have like community games that was pass around.. we don't really know who owns them.
Anyways, my friend hasn't picked up his gamecube in months from my house.. and he lives down the street. Also another one of my friends has a ps2 and he leaves it where I work so I play it all day and my friend that owns the gamecube comes up there to play ps2.
On another note I'll be working on my xbox at my job (I sell sno cones) soon.. that'll be hella fun.
Edit:
Community games I've played: Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil Zero, Mario Party (or w/e it's called), Metriod Prime, Time Splitters 2 and Uh Uh it's seems like I'm forgetting something.. Oh well (I've hardly ever played gc)

Jun 9 2003, 04:26 PM
That "community games" thing is a nice idea. Glad to hear that you have friends that are trustworthy like that.
I think that the cube will have some great stuff coming out in the fall/winter months. I see more interesting titles for the Cube than I do the Box this Christmas, but as always that doesn't bother me, since I have way too many games to catch up on, on xbox.
Oh, and quick story for ya:
One of my gaming buddies was a hardcore game collector as of 7 months ago. Turbografx, Neo Geo, Super Famicom, Saturn, all that stuff, in addition to the PS2, Cube, and Box games. Then he got his Xbox modded....
After a while, he started getting rid of stuff.
The SNES stuff was the first things to go, with the Turbo and Genesis stuff soon after.
He then sold off all of his Playstation 2 stuff.
Then he made the move that spoke volumes: He sold his Neo Geo stuff. Mark of the Wolves, Metal Slug 3, Last Blade 2, all of it. Gone.
Well I found out yesterday that he just finished getting rid of his GBA SP, and all of the games for it. That's everything. The only thing he has left is his Xbox. His reason? He can play any of the SNES, NES, Genesis, Sega CD, and Gameboy Color game he wants on his Box. With an exception of a few, most of the Neo games he liked are on there, too. Then there's the arcade games, and retail Xbox games. There's so much retro games on his system, as well as recent Box games (we play ALOT of Baldur's Gate, Midnight Club 2 and NBA Street 2), that he simply doesn't miss the other systems anymore. To date, the only 3 games that he misses, is Radiant Silvergun on Saturn, Last Blade 2 on Neo Geo, and Super Monkey Ball on Gamecube.

,
it's good to see your friend is keeping the xbox above anything else but this thread is by no means a way to say the xbox is better than the rest or not.... what i simply wanted to do with this thread was to say, i am really hooked onto the cube for some really cool games... and i DO HAVE THE XBOX ALREADY, in fact i have got TWO xboxes in my house right now...

so not a big thing for me.....i do love the modded capabilities but
as with my new gamecube right now, it's CHEAP as hell with free games and stuffs.... and imho it's a great buy....
A person has 24 hours a day, ... and out of which he/she sleeps at least 4-8 hours .. so that leaves u with around 16-20 hours of productiveness.... So who cares about the many roms or stuff one can play with the xbox, .. hehee i tried some but didn't really like it too much, what's past is past .... i enjoyed those arcades years ago... and i do enjoy turning them on once a while... especially nes and snes games....
Well... the point i may be trying to make here is that, i have learnt that excess is damaging, as i have said earlier in this thread, sometimes i find the xbox or ps2 have got way too many useless and ridiculous games that sadly to say, i have spent money to buy and then gotten rid off at cheap arse prices......sigh.... and with the cube (at least at the moment)... it feels like it's worth it anyhow....phew..
prob gonna sell an xbox and wait for xbox 1.5 (if it turns out to be smaller in design and more portable).... anyone agree? of course it must be mod-able..

I do not know if I like my Cube better than my Xbox, however of the exclusive games for each system, hte Cube has a much better selection imo. One thing though, if I am not mistaken the Gamecube performance-wize the weakest, however I think that some of the games such as Metriod Prime and the Resident Evil Games look better than anything on the other systems that I have tried. Is this true or have I not played the right games.

I recently bought a gamecube and I love it. Although I do still use my xbox for watching movies my gamcube has pretty much dominated my gaming attention. I am amazed at the graphics of the gamecube on that little cd and how smooth gameplay is. It's really fun when you get together with a few friends and play mario party 4 or smash bos melee.
Here is a couple of games I am waiting:
Mario Kart Double Dash (AMAZING FROM THE VIDEOS I HAVE SEEN)
Wario World
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles
Futurama
Star Fox 2
Mario Golf
Just have a look at gamespot and look at the screenshots for them.

well, it's true that simply a few good / great titles like RE series, Metroid, Ikaruga (dreamcast/cube) wouuld be sufficient for a long time.... hehe... let's face it, how many 'days' or weeks do u really spend on gaming anyway... for the hardcores, i wouldn't know.. but the majority has to work and spend time with friends/family so ... for a whole seasons, a few of these are more than sufficient..
even on Ps2, my few titles were gt3, ffx / ffx international, and those bloody titles took me more than 6 months! seriously.. me not a newbie gamer i just want to get the best items/cars/ potions etc etc.. so i ended up playing ffx a few times....
anyway, to sum up this thread i started, .... me no regret getting all 3 consoles, but as for some occasional friends partying,..... all the games that i've got are great, but THE WORST part is i DON't Have any wireless controllers..... i believe wires all tangling up in my lounge with 4 consoles in there is a bit of nuisance heheh...
btw, me really hoping those nfos of zelda IS true and best is to come... perhaps something like the old enigmah heheh or enigmah-cube heheh
wooohooo...
pretty soon i think ps2's gonna have a hd load (this is possible i think, coz remember in FFX International Japan NTSC version, one could actually select load options from HD/DVD-rom hmm... i don't have the hd but what can i say?... sure this must leads to something)

I got rid of my ps2 about a year and a half ago, selling off close to $1500 put into it for like $400. That sucked. Switched to Xbox, mod, etc. And never expected to get a cube. I now have a cube. I can't say I play either more than the other. I think its the games that matter the most not the system. The cube defintely has the smaller more select top tier games, which is a big plus to me. That way I don't have to be buying games all the time and getting stuck with ones that suck. You get one of the BIG N games and its going to be a damn good game. So far I got:
Metroid Prime
Zelda Windwaker
Super Mario Sunshine
Rogue Leader
They are all solid. I am really looking forward to the coming N only games like the next Rogue Squadron, Fzero, FF, Mario Kart, Starfox, etc. Have you seen video of the new Castlevania? OMG hizzle yeah. One Cube game a month I can handle, especially since you can get GREAT deals on them at Blockbuster. And 3 or 4 pretty good games a month on Xbox, so its all good.
