Ok guys, I really hope this helps someone!!

Firstly the situation.....

Flashed an MS28 drive with 42b on via chipset with 10 second method.. reported all 100% all looked good!
Put into 360 & then recieved E65 error!!
Drive is dead, no eject, nothing!
tried bad flash recovery for about 6 hours!!! (waiting 10 seconds,11 seconds...samremod, samread etc nothing!

Heres how I fixed it! with via chipset

1, turned on pc with drive off using xtreme bootmaker with both ms28 boxes ticked!
2, when at dos prompt turned on drive and type mtkflash r /m test.bin
3, pressed enter & DID NOT TURN DRIVE OFF!!!
4, Selected my drive & STILL DID NOT TURN DRIVE OFF!!!
5, It started reading immediately!!!!
6, I was able to read & write continuously (tried 5 or 6 times reading and writing different firmwares)
7, every time i pressed enter it would read and write immediately !!! Drive was never turned off!!

The problem was the fact that I was turning the drive off before selecting chipset (as per instructions!)

Now drive is working perfectly with 42b!!!

Err, you'd probably need the 0800 disk inserted for 10secs to get the drive to be recognised in bios with Xtreme 4.2 and up and for flashing as well

That was impossible to do!!! the drive was dead! no eject nothing!!!!!

All done without the 0800 Disk! :-)

I had the same thing, fucked up at first. But later on I could reflash it as I was used to..
Some things aren't the same for everyone as they are described in the manuals hehe.

This worked great for me Thanx i was about to try a vcc.

the 10 second trick avoids the 0800 disc

the 0800 disc is still really only good for reading original games.. u dont really need it at all to reflash drives as even the ms25 can use the 10sec trick to bypass the blocked fw

That is ridiculous that worked, are you sure you have an ms28 and not an ms25?

can this fix a e66 error,,
i have ms28 and it powers on and ejects
but get e66,,
any idea?

It is not reporting the correct version to the console. If your hacked firmware says ms28, then it needs to be ms25, or vice versa.

the same thing happened to me today... ms28 drive...

was flashing... bank0 got to 100%, than my xbox turned off by itself for no reason and bank1 stood @ 0%... i turned the box back on, but it did not continue flashing... so i tried it from scratch, but it does not work... it recognizes the card in fSam (Xtreme Primary), then i do the 10 second trick as usual but does not work... i tried your method too, nada

trying on via 6421 card... tried on ich7 too, but there i can't check patch mtkflash so it does not recognize the drive...

ah, btw: when i plug it back to the xbox i get E65... and the middle LED (the one in the middle of the ring) flashes all the time...

what can i do to fix my drive?
