7. save to same folder as the .iso that XBC v2.3 created earlier
8. Launch SS Merger 1.7b--use those settings in thread posted above--#25--select ALL 4 files
9. ignore the request to do an on-line Xtereme verfication--select NO when prompted.
10. press the MERGE button--this takes about 30-45 minutes to merge the new complete ISO
11. Burn wih ImgBurn v2.1..same deal as before--I used 4x speed on Verbatim DVD +R DL media
works exactly as it should, this is the DEFACTO STANDARD for ripping and burning these newer 360 games with SH-D162B KREON v.81 drives.
BTW this game has no way to save the game progress during a MISSION...what a tremendous mistake by the game developers...no doubt that will be frustratinbg later in game on more difficult levels..
as I said before you don't need Isobuster ($30 program) or DVDinfoPro if you have the kreon flashed sammy drive..

To my knowledge, same as any other game with an nme, use associator from the site of NME.
Some members reported that Associat0r sometimes as a prob to extract the ss and move it to the proper location using the Convert tab. Some people made it work by extracting the ss.bin from their image (use ssmerge, schtrom, XBCr) and then they called associator to do the merge+conversion using the seperate files in the Merge tab. For some it seems to do a better job at inserting a ss at the right place then moving it.
nothing specific to STL or NCAA Madness, maybe should have been in another thread

hmm... trying using the isobuster method but when i entered FF 08 01 11 01 and sent the command, it popped a message saying something like no sense. ... what's wrong? is it my firmware?

looks like your kreon is not seen that well, could it be drivers?
went PIo instead of DMA
Maybe reflash the the SHD126c (some had to reflash it once or twice), other conflict Hardware , soft???

Hi
i have tried the above.
i get as far as getting all the 4 bits together the iso and the other 3 files.
when i try to merge i get this:-
***.iso is extreme file lenght
it wont let me do anything else.
is this something to do with the patch on my sh-d162 dvd rom

when you hit the big yellow merge and create, nothing happens?
if you run the stealth check of XBCr (or schtrom) on the game.iso after what does it say??

I've tried all the methods listed here for Battlestations Midway (all apparently create the disk without a problem) but when I load the disk into the 360 it comes up with either the "this DVD should be put into a XBox 360 console" or it defaults to trying to play it as a video or music CD. So I cannot get it to launch the title. Have I done something wrong or do I have to modify the 360 firmware? (which I have not done)

Is that your first backup? if not are other backup working fine?
after you finish, try schtrom 3.1/tools/stealth check to see if all pieces are there.
If it is you first, Iwould try with another game if you have one, make sure the rest of the process is OK

Yes this is my first backup. I'll check with schtrom, Do I check the ISO file pre-burn or the post-burn DVD? Sounds elementary, but I'm not assuming anything here

SS Merger 1.7 completes and then I check the iso file with schtrom (acidflash image check) and I get an invalid xbox image file size...the size is 7,705,657,344 bytes. So what is going wrong here?

OK...I see it, under the SS merger app. Uncheck the Create NME compatible ISO. Yes this was checked. OK I will redo the merge without it and see what happens. Thanks!

If the drive has not been flashed with modified firmware, there is no way your backup will ever boot, no matter how you make it.

Ah....so the missing piece.....I thought so but it was not clear from all the various software burning methods that the pre-condition for any of them to work was to reflash the DVD drive firmware in the 360. Do you have a link to the best method for this? Also will this be detected by Xbox live and prohibit me from going online? I presume it invalidates the warranty?

Also suggest you give a look at the posting rules, many discussion on XBL to be careful.
AS far as the fw being detected?? who knows. One strict rule at XS, only original (no Bup) to be played on Live.
and yes the warranty is gone.

yes and most of the new games have the new smaller video partition, so I am guessing that a good part of the new releases will have this problem.
Redline and schtrom are working on this , question of time only for this to be resolve.

When backing up Crackdown - I use xbc v2.3 to create ss.bin, pfi.bin, dmi.bin. I twice click unlock drive in drive tools and then extract the current partition. I then take these files and use xbox 360 stealth (included with xtreme 4.2) and run build360 with video provided and I get image.000. I then run ss merger 1.7b with my current partion game iso and the ss, pfi and dmi created earlier. Turn NME off and insert video iso image.000. All goes well except when I run stealth check. I get "unable to determine the validity of the PFI sector" with other checks coming back ok. I haven't tried to burn this yet. Was wondering what I was doing wrong or if I should be concerned.
Using SH-D162C with kron 0.81.

the pfi is also slightly different, try the imag stealth check in schtrom which I beleive is ok for that new PFI.

NME 1.2 with Crackdown
I picked up Crackdown yesterday and figured I would try and make a backup of it. Well, like everyone has said here, Schtrom gives the error that it is not an XBox disc. I hit this forum and after getting home from work, I’m happy to say I made a perfectly working backup.
My Specs:
XBox 360 with Samsung MS28 Drive
NME 1.2 Chip Installed
PC:
Pioneer 111D
Samsung D163A w/ Kreon .80
I used SDEENS method although logically the other methods listed here should work as well.
Once you’re done using SDEENS method from line #28 and the SSMERGER settings from line #25, you will have an image you can use NME Associat0r on. I started to do the SS extraction and insertion method but figured I would just first give the little application a chance to just Convert. Wham Bam, the conversion went off perfectly creating an image set at 7.525.056KB. I then let CloneCD burn it and it works great.
Hope this helps any of you NME users out there.

When you say the pfi is different I'm assuming that when xbc2.3 verifies pfi - the fact that its slightly different is why the check comes back as failed (again this is for pfi only). Is this a limitation of xbc 2.3 - and don't get me wrong the software is great and I appreciate all the help and software thats been provided.

yes there is a small bug in 2.3, it makes it tell that something is wrong when in fact it is just the a different format of a valid PFI. Redline knows about it , and pretty sure it will be fixed in the next release he mentioned in his thread.

having trouble with crackdown, help would be appreciated since I was successful with STL, but not this game. Followed the instructions on the posts, have been using a Kreon-flashed Samsung v0.81, and XBCr, I follow all the instructions (thanks soso) using XBCR but must be doing something wrong. I use drive tools, unlock 2x, backup the current partition, extract the DMI, PFI, SS, then run SS Merger 1.7, unselect NME, switch on ISO video patting, then run the app. When its done, my file size changes (should it?)
Here's my disc size before running merger: 7,307,001,856
Now after running merger (adds padded iso): 7,572,881,408
My 360 gets an unable to read error. Tried burning via XBCR, CloneCD, to no avail. Appreciate any advice on this.

file size is OK,
run the stealth check of
Schtrom to see if all pieces are seen?
if so your prob may have nothing to do with the image.
how is it burned: drive/media to be used on which x360 drive/fw?

I used your xbc v2.3 method for backing up crackdown.
1)I started xbox backup creator
2)selected ASPI
3)selected driver tools
4)click unlock x 2
5)then went to read tab
6)selected read "current partition"
7)it dumped an iso that was 6.80gig in size i called it "crack"
8)then i went to drive tools and selected extract "ss,pfi,dmi...i extracting them into the same folder as the iso i just created.
9)I opened ss merger v1.7b...and then proceeded to set it up like the user sosotiit stated in his thread.
10)then when i went to add my iso it added it then came up with a box that said "crack.iso extreme style length".
And the SS bar is lit up in red...i guess meaning the security sector bin file is wrong.Even if i ignore all this and still try to merge the files with the iso file.I still get a message popping up saying "crack.iso extreme style length".
What am i doing wrong?.

It is not a problem if you have the two red fields at the bottom, I have never used the database (always got the two red fields) and it works.
It is not needed for the merge to be done correctly and we do not support the use of such database at XS
the result is probably already good.

when i try to extract the SS , DMI, and PFI, into my Iso folder, it is asking me if I want to overwrite the Iso. Is that correct? When it makes my .iso it doesnt make a folder, it simply does the icon with the 3 books and strap. Am I even doing that right?
When I attempt to put my iso into into the ss merger, i get a message telling me "crackdown.iso is smaller than Xtreme style lenght"
I dont understand if im missing something. I create two crackdown icons on my desktop. one is .dvd and the other is the .iso (its always created two icons with all my games. I use xbc 2.3)

Just follow these steps like sosotiit and VVaI2LoCk mentioned.

Ive done all of that, and now i get a dirty disk read error on the xbox. I use verbatims, and the samsung drive to copy. When XBC makes my iso, it doesnt put it in a folder, it puts it on my desktop as an icon. So, when I try to add the 3 .bin folders to it, it just overwrites it. So, i made a folder called crackdown and put the iso in there. then I added the 3 .bin files to it. used ss merger. It said it was done and ready to copy. I copied, and it came out with a dirty disc read error when i put it in the 360.
I cant think of anything else I can do. any help is appreciated. Im down to my last verbatim. lol

heres my method:
1)open XBC and unlock drive
2)select current partition and dump (6.81GB)
3)select drive tools and dump DMI, PFI, SS.bin files put in same folder as game.iso
4)leave XBC open (so drive is still unlocked), open Schtrom and dump video.iso into same folder
as all other files. run mouse over folder and see if it says 7.05GB
5)open SS merger check xtreme style and check imgburn fixes, uncheck nme, check insert iso, load up files in correct order and merge
6)burn with imgburn 2.4x, layerbreak at 1913760 booktype dvd-rom (just for the hell of it)
worked for me. a few steps but a 1:1 image.

Me too, thanks a lot everyone! I really appreciate the time you all take to post solutions/tutorials.
My current setup
1. Sh-D162C - Firmware Kreon 0.81
2. Pioneer dvr-710 (retail version of 111d), crossflashed to 111L (dangerous bros. 8.29 FW ) labelflash [with nero 7 premium] is so cool BTW!
3. LG GDR-8164BK - OEM (for backing up my WII and GC games using Rawdump 2.0 when I have 2.5 hours of patience available....)
I'm ready for almost any backup! Now all I gotta do is take apart my consoles and get this flashed (xbox360) or modded (WII) accordingly! Yay!

It seems like when I run SS Merger 1.7b, I place all the necessary files where they need to be, adjust the settings as suggested in previous posts, then merge. But after all that, it seems like the program freezes, has anyone else experienced a problem like that?

i doesnt freeze just doesnt have a progress indicator if you right click on start bar and open task manager you can see it using memory and working let it sit for about 20 or 30 min depending on your comp. performance.

I am trying to back up NBA Street Homecourt and I am getting the same error when I extract the SS.

NBA Homecourt had to be done the same way. Good news is that it worked. Bad news is I should have waited one day to back it up.
