How long does it take to read the firmware off the samsung drive to make a backup?

I can run it and it says

PORT 1F0, MASTER/SLAVE:B0

and then it doesnt do anything the cursor just keeps blinking. is this supposed to happen?

Your info is missing. Write down your samsung model no(ms25 or ms28),how you flash(floppy,memory stick,xtreme boot maker) flashed or not(if flashed which version of fw) and your sata chipset. That would be more helpful for you for giving you solutions

its ms28 im flashing im using a floppy disk and its the intelnumber 6 chipset

is there anything i need to do before i flash an ms28?

Ive tried turn it off and on at different times with or without av cable.

what stuns me is it see's it in post(power on self test) when its detecting my drives...

Your chipset is not compatible to flash ms28 drives. You need a VIA6421x or VIA8237 chipsets to get it done.

I have a ms25 drive and it never seems to read the original firmware. The light on the 360 blinks like crazy but nothing happens. Once in a while it will get as far as saying reading 00% but never progresses.

I have tried both my sata ports but only one gets the light to start blinking so I think I found the right port. I am also using the floppy method because for some reason my PC doesn't want to boot to USB key. I am using the most recent Extreme Boot Maker with 5.0a firmware. I tried both ms28 check boxes and without but still no luck. Anyone have any suggestions?

My PC specs:

Intel 865GBF with onboard ICH5 sata chipset.

Well some ich5 controllers are not compatible with ms25.I tested nforce2 sil3112 , nforce3 and 4(don't remember their controllers) ,asus p4p800 ic5 and only nforce3 and 4 worked.
ms28 is different.You should bu a cheap via6421 sata card.It can be 6421A or 6421L.You don't have to buy eaid one just the core one works flawless with ms28 drives.

I cant tell what your problem is, but to answer your questions about time, a typical FW read/dump takes like 2-3 seconds when working as it should. Writing is abit slower, maybe 6-10 sec or so. Anyway, it should go really fast both ways.

Guess your sata controllers doesnt like your drives, or you havent disabled RAID in bios.
