Thanks to Jezz_X, JM, and everyones support. We no longer need to edit any xml's for Wide Icons... The following has been added to the 01/01/07 build :
Wide Icons View : We now have 2 extra views Wide & Big Wide
Folder Remembering : XBMC Will now remember what view you have for each folder. (Keep your TV Shows in Wide, and your Movies in Icon)
Icon Cache : Icon Cache default is now set to 192.



Xbox Games : FINISHED! (Download Here, includes over 800+ Wide Icons for Xbox Games)
TV Shows : 200+ Incoming (ETA Beginning of January)
Applications : Incomplete (If you'd like to work on it, go ahead )
Homebrew : Incomplete (If you'd like to work on it, go ahead )
Emulators : Incomplete (If you'd like to work on it, go ahead )

How do I implement 'Wide Icons'?
If its a TV SHOW, then once you have the WideIcon.png, rename it to folder.jpg
F:\Videos\TV Shows\FamilyGuy\S01E01.avi
F:\Videos\TV Shows\FamilyGuy\S01E02.avi
F:\Videos\TV Shows\FamilyGuy\folder.jpg

If its a GAME, then once you have the WideIcon.png, rename it to default.tbn
F:\Games\Halo\titleimage.xbx
F:\Games\Halo\dashupdate.xbe
F:\Games\Halo\default.xbe
F:\Games\Halo\default.tbn

Note: After you move all your Wide Icons to your Xbox, clear your cache (Remove thumbnails cachefolder located at \UserData\Thumbnails\My Programs\ or \UserData\Thumbnails\My Videos\ and restart XBMC.[/u]

What are the guidelines for requesting?
*If you would like to request a Wide Icon, then just post it... Even if the Wide Icon has been done & you prefer another one, nobody will be offended, we're all here to help out
*If you are filling requests for a Wide Icon, make sure you show the image in your post, so we can see what it looks like and simply right click to save it
*I personally will collect what needs to be done weekly, so check my replies for lists of what people need and/or what has been fulfilled
*When creating Wide Icons, do not apply any effects to the Wide Icon (Like gloss, scan lines, etc). This is the SKINS job. The mistake with the last wide icons is these icons looked beautiful in PM3 (scan lines, the round edges, darkness, etc) but didn't look as good in other skins... Now in these new wide icons, as you can see, PM3 uses a simple transparent square, MC360 could possibly use a white border, other skins might apply different effects. I'm in the process of creating a skin with my wide icons in mind of course, and I have my own neat effects I've applied to the Wide Icons.

How do I remove the folder/game title under the Wide Icon? Check the thread for more information on this, I do not have it at this time :/

I can't find a Xbox Game in your Wide Icon pack? Please keep in mind if you can't find the game, try looking for it under a different name, because I named them exactly how the game cover is named... for example

If your looking for Deer Hunter 2005, It would be under Cabela's Deer Hunter 2005

I've posted some guidelines for creating the wide icons. As mentioned above, it is best not to apply any style to the icon and to let either the skin or website do this for you.

Feel free to submit your wide icons to the MediaIcons.org website. This way they can be easily searched or browsed. We are also hard at work on an API that will allow XBMC to automatically download the icons.

Is there a patch for mc360 out for the wide icons?

Jezz_X? Sure would be nice to know if this is working in mc360 yet or if it will be in the 1.0 release.

It wouldn't work in the current version of MC360 cause that beta was released before the support for the extra view types was added, nor is using the 2.1 skinning engine yet.

When you release them, please make a torrent of all of them because the site in your profile is really hard to browse.

Yes my current version 1.0 of mc360 that I have made has wide icons in it though only the big ones not the little ones due to the less width mc360 has for the file lists

Please do not follow this tutorial. It was plainly stated in the first two posts of this thread that no styles should be applied to the icons. You should let the skin do the work for you or use the drop down on this site.



If you still want to apply these styles, save yourself some time and use the free Style Builder application.

I can't get the wide icons to display for the games, however they work for TV programs.

Is there something I'm doing wrong?
I downloaded the image pack, and FTP'd the matching jpg to the folder and renamed it.
eg f:\games\JSRF\default.tbn

BTW, I made a new JSRF icon as I didn't like the included one

after you uploaded thumbs as default.tbn in each folder you must remove the thumbnails cachefolder for my programs (Userdata/thumbnails/My Programs if memory serves) AND restart XBMC.

Do these wide icons also work when accessing folders on a pc?
I have the standard harddisk in my Xbox and have all my tv series on my pc.
I access the pc shares through xbms and not SMB.

Didn't realize I was applying a style to the icon. This has been helping me with multiple wide icons that I still use (without problems), and was put together with alot of help from others. If it's not following the necessary format, I won't use it anymore. Thanks for all the work on this, as I still love the way the wide icons look.....

Firstly, major pat on the back for such a succesful project. I was kinda watching this one what feels like years ago when these wide icons first surfaced and thought they looked pretty good.

The reason i didnt use them is I thought it was a bit long winded to set em all up and couldnt face editing xmls every update. So I left it, and now here we are, the official integration of them is cool, and a nice nod from the XBMC team that you have done good work on these im sure.

So yeah, well done and thanks, im setting em up now!

I wanted to get the tough ones over with first: Xbox Games & TV Shows. Which both should be 100% complete this week. After that, I will be working on my own Wide Icons for Emulators/Programs/Homebrew that i'll spend a lot of time on designing, and might not be done for a while

A question by the way...
What is the optimal aspect ratio for wide icons? Reason I ask is because on MediaIcons.org it says in the guidelines that 5.4:1 is correct. All icons in the packs though is 760x160, which is 4.75:1. The ones in the pack seem to fill out the space better so I guess the guidelines are wrong?

Did some icons for a few homebrew games as well if anyone wants them:

Climlite XBMC Caches them at exactly resolution is 446x82. (192 Cache)

Ok let me step in here
First off the guidelines are for the older version WideIcons that you see in the older threads.

When I made the WideIcons in PM3 (yes I am one of the official team skinners and did the skin code for it ) I made it so people could just rip the images from xbox.com games catalog and it would look good. This didn't require people to know photoshop or somthign else to make them and it also makes them fit with any skin not just PM3 (see I had a plan )

I also did it this way because the TV icons will be the same and soon ( maybe later or never than sooner ) XBMC will be able to download the TV icons directly from the site in the first post like IMDB lookup does for movies


Now we are lucky that NineT9mustang is a real nice person and has allready ripped them all (well most of them) from xbox.com and upped a rar file of them so now pretty much every game is done and available and people will not need to keep asking for them. I'm sure in under 1 month every xbox game ever made will probably have a wide icon in 1 rar file
The same goes for TV icons pretty much every show you would want has an icon on that site allready made and looking good

So in conclusion
The tutorials are wrong sorry I reinvented the standard for better ease of use for people and to be honest I think they look better anyway

Does not really matter since both sizes of icon looks good, just not when you put them next to each other. Of course that's not a big deal since I doubt someone would start mixing TV Show/DVD icons with games.

Well, I'm not that great at this, but I've been going through the TV shows that I haven't found an icon for yet and started to make my own. Here's the two I've done tonight. I'll update this thread as I make more:
