Just wanted to drop a thank you to everyone at the scene for all the great tutorials, pictures, hints, tips, tricks, walkthroughs, etc involved with 360 hacking. Spent a lot of time hacking and tweaking my Xbox1 with "the scenes" help so when I decided to dig into the bowels of my 360 this is the first place I came and once again, everything I needed was here. So THANK YOU ALL!!! You are the giants who's shoulders I proudly stand on...
And now the slice of advice...I posted this same advice when working with my original xbox but it would appear that it was too long ago to be remembered...
For all of you out there that are attempting to do this...First - read read and read again. Before you even pick up a torx driver read all of the tut's you can find, look at all the pictures, go through the steps and then go through it again. Then when you're comfortable with it, read it again.
Second - If you don't know what a torx driver is, have never edited an exe at the hex level, don't know quite what "SATA chipset" means, etc. you probably shouldn't be attempting this. The tutorials are very clear and very step by step but the fact remains that if you don't have a basic comprehension of the things involved, find someone who does who can help you, or don't do it at all (or expect to be fairly confused, perhaps even fully lost, at which point you're simply relying on blind luck that there aren't any problems and it'll simply work the first time without any idiosyncratic issues...).
Third - in my pre modding research I found questions asked over and over and over again. I found more instances of the exact same questions than I did actual information on the process of backing up, flashing, reflashing, 0800 mode etc. I did not have a perfect experience. I ran into two fairly significant problems but instead of going straight the the boards and posting I went to google and to the forums search. Yes it took me a bit more time to dig for the answer (mostly because there were so many posts of the exact same question to sift through) but I can guarantee that if you're having a problem, someone else has already had that problem and the solution is available. The more people post the same questions over and over the more I have to go through to find an answer. If you want someone to feed you the solution you're missing a big part of the fun of doing this and all of the satisfaction of overcoming these obstacles by your own wits, not to mention the fact that you're not learning along the way.
So that's it. I'll get off my soap box. Thanks again to everyone.
