Looking at the new firmware, I see XBOX360 Single layer support is in the pipeline.

How many 360 games would fit on to a single layer disc? Are they padded for DL or something?

Most 360 games are going to require some serious ripping in order to fit them on a single layer disc. The place where I see the single layer app getting the most use is for original XBOX games working on the 360. I'm just shooting in the dark but my guess would be the reason that the 360 titles are so much larger is due to the fact that they have a much broader range of HD support. I believe the original XBOX only supported up to 480p where a number of 360 titles are all the way up to 1080i and now it looks like some of them will be supporting up to 1080p.
