According to Amritt Ventures, Microsoft's Xbox 360 would appear to be doing well in India. Amritt's Gunjan Bagla noted that the 360 is "ubiquitous in stores across Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore."

He met with Mohit Anand, country manager at Microsoft's India Entertainment and Devices Division, who unfortunately would not cough up any sales numbers for the Microsoft console, which launched in India on September 23, 2006. In a statement last year, however, he did acknowledge India's growing importance in the global video game market. "It is estimated there are 1.6 million gamers in India who spend at least 2 hours playing everyday," he said.

Does this mean that one day there could be Indian made or themed games? (sourced from India, not just from the many Indians in software wink.gif)
Not trying be funny or make a statement, just interested in the possibilities.

careful with your responses people, racism is racism. Seen some people get away with sh*t like that here before.

last time I saw totally unwarranted racism, the staff (arjun) stepped up and totally eliminated it.

wonder why the guy wouldnt give up the numbers?

My guess is because people in India roughly make between 1/5th and 1/10th US wages.

That nice looking base model 360 costs around $2,000, comparatively speaking..

And there's nothing like $500 games..

It's actually much less than that. But the cost of living there is so much less than it is here, so it evens out. Anyone remember the news about the bank giving a loan in India just for people to purchase a 360? I think it was on Engadget or Xbox360fanboy.

Much less than a tenth? I guess I've only dealt with H1's, so it may be cheaper back home.. But even if cost of living is cheaper, it doesn't mean that any imported products are.

What exactly does this mean, especially since they won't release sales numbers?

Seems like marketdroid speech. For comparison, is Sony going to come out now and say something like the PS3 is "ubiquitous in stores" because people are tripping over the store stockpiles sitting there gathering dust?

The carefully couched way they phrased this sounds suspicious.

Oh of course not. They are going to pay exactly what we pay for it. $400 bucks to us is...well not pocket change, but it's justifiable. I'm surprised it's doing well over there considering most people can't even come close to affording it...Yea I wouldn't call the H1 guys poor. To make it here they'd have a decent amount of money, or be really smart.
