I recently got some from SVP, after your suggestion. I bought a 20 pack spindle for about £30, but they were made in India. I've only burnt one so far, a Movie and thats played Ok.

Unfortunately that is now the gamble that we all take when ordering Verbs online since some of the production is now in India. I can only hope that this will help contribute to the lowering of cost on the Verbatim discs as a whole.
jesterrace777
Okay, it looks like you Canadians now have a killer deal on the DL Verbatims for the next 24 hours. 20 packs of the DL Verbatim DVD+R for $20CDN. That is less than $1USD per disc. Lucky Ducks. sad.gif

anymore US deals going on ATM?
jesterrace777
Unfortunately the best US deal I can find ATM is at newegg. $36 for the 20 pack with free 3 day shipping. Not that great compared to some of the deals that I have seen but it is currently the best deal going. Also keep in mind that newegg changes their prices at the drop of a hat so who knows how long this will last.

Sam's club

50 pack Verbatim DL dvd+r's for 69.99

Just picked up a spindle of these, they are now 67.99 at my samsclub.

One thing i noticed, is that these at Sams are 2.4x

The 8X ones I got at BestBuy work excellent burning at 4X, so I'll
report back with these 2.4X DL's from Sams
jesterrace777
Watch out as there are a number of packs of them that are MII (Made In India) by Moser Baer.

SVP are doing £5 off a £50 spend here in the UK. Its a limited offer, can't remember when it finishes.
But they could be made in India, my last spindle was.

Incidentally you wouldn't happen to have an error rate scan on your discs, would you? (You would need a Lite-On, Benq or Plextor burner for the scan).
B4tm4n
This disc was Burned @ 2.4 and scanned with a BenQ1650.
I wasn't sure what speed to test in, so if you need me do it at another speed just let me know.

It's about as I expected. Decent, but nothing spectacular. Too many total PIF for my tastes, but then again I'm ultra picky. wink.gif I think the highest total number of PIF that I have ever had on the Made In Singapore DL Verbs has been between 5-6K.

I just bought the 20 pack of Verbatim DVD+R DL disks from NEWEGG and got a package with labeling that says "Made in India".

Has anyone really made conclusions about the quality of discs made in India vs. discs made in Singapore?
SlickWilly440
I just bought some from eBay to day, 20 pack for 31.75 plus 6.50 for priority shipping in the U.S. (Item is from California).

At the moment there is only 24 packs of 20's left, and the auction goes on until Monday morning (Oct 8th).

There is also another person selling the same item for 32 dollars plus 6.50 for priority shipping, only 17 packs left, and auction goes on until Monday night or so.

Just search "verbatim dvd dl" and it's the top 2 auctions.

The folks over at cdfreaks have analyzed them pretty extensively and it's hit and miss with the MII Verbs. If they are decent quality then there isn't much difference between them and their top quality Singapore produced counterparts. HOWEVER, if they are of bad quality then they are worse than the cheap quality DL media that is out there.

If you see my other thread I had this whole ordeal with Memorex DL. This was my third spindle and for some reason it didnt want to make anything work. Out of the 20 I had only 1/4 of them worked grr.gif So I will no longer take the chance and stick to verbs
xJACKASSx
i got the 50 pack from Sams and there made in India and have not any problems out of them yet.

jesterrace777
Any scans? @zenKis14 if you buy locally and search for the spindles that are made in Singapore (ONLY SOME PRODUCTION HAS BEEN SENT TO INDIA) then you can still be guaranteed to have quality media.
zenkiS14
I wish. Local prices are HIGH. Microcenter usually has a good deal like once a month or so. But never when I need them unsure.gif
xJACKASSx
not sure how to scan the disk.
jesterrace777
If you have a Lite-On, Benq or Plextor drive you can use Nero CD/DVD Speed and pop a burned disc in and select the disc quality tab. You can then do a quality scan.
zenkiS14
Sounds interesting. I should scan the discs that burned and didnt work, but Im too lazy to hook up my IDE cable. I just new SATA pioneer drives biggrin.gif

Good to know. Too bad that here in the states they run about 2x the price of the others and are almost never on sale.

Yeah, but less than $2.50/disc shipped from NewEgg, etc. and cheaper on occasion. Not worth the headache of messing about with any other media, IMO.

Thing is that I can get (non-printable) MIS Verbatim or MIS Sony DL DVD+R for under $1.60 a disc. The last couple of times I bought it was actually under $1.30 a disc. That is a pretty steep price margin by comparison. Sorry about the confusion but I was comparing printable to non-printable of the same quality media. wink.gif

Yeah, but I'll pay $1 more for the printable label.

I bought a 10 pack about 2 weeks ago from newegg and got the MIS Verbatim's and had no problems. So I bought a 20 pack a couple of days ago. I have to say newegg's shipping is FAST! Anyway I got the MII discs this time and was a little dissapointed. Only burned one so far and no problems but I will post later if I have issues. I am keeping an eye on officemax for a sale so I can hopefully pick my own MIS at the store. I will let everyone know when they have a sale again there.

Thanks for this thread. It saved me alot of money so far!

What a waste. wink.gif I suppose I could be really anal and start comparing the cost of Inkjet Refills to the cost of a sharpie marker, but to each their own. wink.gif

@carwarr if you happen to have a microcenter nearby, you can save some cash AND sift through and find the MIS packs. If not you can still save over newegg by ordering from them.

Thanks for the infor jesterrace777. I did check out microcenter from reading your previos posts. I do not have one locally, but if I do have to order online again, that is probably where I will go.

I was placing another order online with newegg (open box 500G network drive for $124!!! What a deal!) and just thought I would chance it for the MIS discs again.

The only disappointing thing is the MII discs show up as MKM001 with DVDinfopro. I was hoping they would use a different ID so we could tell them apart after we burn them, but now I have to write (with a sharpie! hehe) MII so I can keep track for future failures. If the MII media ends up not being as good as the MIS, I am afraid it will start giving Verbatim a bad rap because the average person will not know what they burned in the first place.

Thanks again.

Well, I got 36 ink cartridges for Epson 320 Photo from Meritline for $16 shipped. That was at least a year ago, and I've only used six of them so far. I think I'll be ok on the ink.

The printed labels go a long way towards pleasing the wife...which is worth a lot, too. wink.gif

Forgot to mention, best price at the moment...NextWarehouse.com has the printable 20-packs for $52.90, no tax, free shipping. $2.65 to back up a game isn't really a huge investment.

Yeah, most of us were kinda perturbed when it became known that the MII discs show up as the same manufacturer info. The only way to tell them apart is by looking at the country of origin on the spindle. Thus far the scans and the longevity on the MII discs have definitely fallen short of their MIS counterparts. Some of them burn pretty well (very similar to the MIS stuff) but a number of them are actually showing up worse than some of the other cheap quality DL media manufacturers. There were also several early reports of scuffed discs coming out of the MII spindles straight from the factory. I personally won't take a gamble on them unless they go on sale for less than $1USD per disc. Thing that really irritates me is that MKM (Verbatim) started doing this in order to help drive down the costs on production, thereby making the overall costs a bit cheaper for customers and increasing sales. Thus far I have yet to see any sales on Verbatim that beat the ones that have been going on for the last year or two, yet we are now subject to media that is overall inferior in quality to the guaranteed MIS MKM (Verbatim) discs that we were picking up a year or so ago. Here is an interesting read on some personal experiences with MII DL Verbatim:

Why not buy the ones from Microcenter then go to bestbuy and exchange them, or get store credit then buy them again? lol
jesterrace777
Impossible. No Microcenter in my area so a pricematch would be out of the question and would only leave me stuck with MII Verbs.
jesterrace777
Okay, just got the word that Best Buy will be having the 20 packs of DL Verbatim DVD+R on sale for $30 again starting the 21st.

jesterrace,

a couple of things,

is this for ALL best buys locations
are these the good Verbatims one made in singapore/taiwan

thanks for the heads up..
jesterrace777
Yes they are good for all BB locations (at least in the USA). It's an advance notice on the weekly ad that they post nation-wide. As for Singapore/Taiwan: 1. There is no such thing as DL Verbatim made in Taiwan at this point, only MIS or MII (Made In Singapore or Made In India). 2. It all depends on what your local BB happens to have in stock. So it's all luck of the draw. My local store only has MIS. wink.gif
xJACKASSx
so I want the MIS and not the MII if I go to best buy? How do you tell the difference?
jesterrace777
Yes, MIS is the best bet for the money on DL media. As for identification, that's easy. Rotate each spindle around until you get to the part of the label with the UPC Symbol. Right next to it will give you the country of origin.
