Right now! If you have one of these in your area, go and get your MIS verbs. I had to pick thru the shelves, but there were plenty of MIS mixed in with the india's.

Since the above got moved, it makes no sense.

MicroCenter is where these are on sale in the US. $27 for a 20pk. Lucky me to have one down the street. You can probably get them on the website, but no assurance of MIS.
jesterrace777
Not to mention you have to add shipping charges which makes them more expensive than the widely available Best Buy sale (20 for $30) which lasts till Saturday.

Thanks for the info guys. I had bought 3 packs at Best Buy earlier this week. When I got home to check where they were made, all of them said "Made in India" mad.gif
So I went to the store this evening and found 4 Made in Singapore's smile.gif Needless to say, I now have 4 packs of some good discs.

All five BBuys here were sold out (I waited too long damnit.)

It was a fucking beautiful day out, decided to cruise 30 minutes over to a neighboring city. First Best Buy had two Indias and that was it sad.gif I drove another five minutes to the another Best Buy and out of maybe 20 spindles, two were Singapore. Woot. I exchanged my "identical items" for the Singapores. Got a funny look biggrin.gif

GREAT SUCCESS <borat />

Nothing quite like like getting 40 games for the price one.

I did something bad sad.gif I had 30 Games not marked and I don't bother playing anymore. So i scratch up the bottoms of the DVDS and took out 30 brand new dvds and swap them out and took them back and said these where all bad. As first they where not going to give me my money back because they said they don't take returns of computer software. So I said fine went to the shelf to grab 2 more packs but there all out and they went ahead gave me my money back. So I got 30 brand new disc for free smile.gif. What I don't understand how can they call blank disc computer software? I still feel bad about it

Back on topic. There is a great deal on the Verbatim 8x official rated discs (MKM003). $28 for 15 discs. Good deal especially when you consider the fact that they are all made in Singapore, so no guess work.

jesterrace777
Once again, a stretch for this thread but for those of you with a Fry's in your area you do have a shot at a decent deal on the 2.4x DL Sonys. Keep in mind that SOME OF THE DL Sony DVD+R discs ARE MADE BY MITSUBISHI KAGAKU MEDIA IN SINGAPORE AND THEREFORE ARE THE EXACT SAME AS THE COVETED MIS DL VERBATIM DVD+R DISCS!!!!!!!!!!! So just be sure to check the country of origin and you can get a decent deal. 25 packs for $40. Definitely wouldn't order online though due to the odds of getting something other than MIS.

Yes and because thus far all of the 8x official rated media is still only trusted to the home plant in Singapore. @streetmedic any Verbatim DL DVD+R MADE IN SINGAPORE will be excellent regardless of quantity. Problem is that with ordering online these days it is impossible to tell weather you are getting the ones made In India or the ones made in Singapore. Not unless you order the 8x official rated ones which can be quite pricey unless you get them at the microcenter sale. @$tate those definitely are NOT MKM001. Looks like a lame attempt at a fake.

This may be a long shot but for people in the UK i just emailed SVP asking basically if they can either supply the country of manufacture on the website, or just stock the singapore verbs. Also asked if they can get any sony dl's made in singapore.

might work, might not, but worth a try

was gonna order some but as i just had a pack of 20 verbs off ebay that turned out to be MII and already two discs have messed up im not gonna bother and will try to find some in a shop so i can check what they are first!!

anybody know anywhere??

im in southend on sea by the way

Failing that, the other thing we could all do is start emailing verbatim on a daily basis telling them that their india factory is on the whole not up to the job, once again might not work but if you dont ask u dont get!

and for everyone in the uk heres the reply from SVP...

Hi Andy

We buy Verb DL from a few different suppliers and most will not commit to a
consistent country of manufacture (mainly because supply is so erratic), but
this particular product is supplied on the basis that it will always be
Singapore stock.

Does that help?

Wrong thread.
jesterrace777
I know it's a bit OT but here is what I sent off to Verbatim:

To Whom It May Concern:

First of all I would like to congratulate you folks on setting the standard for quality Double Layer DVD+R media. No other manufacturer has come close to the quality and compatibility that your double layer media produced by your Mitsubishi Kagaku Media home plant in Singapore can.

With that being said, I do wish to voice concern over recent developments, particularly with your outsourcing some of your DL media production to Moser Baer in India. The initial reason for doing so was in order to lower production costs. Obviously this CANNOT be done without some sort of sacrifice in quality. You did this a few years ago with your single layer DVD media. In the case of the single layer media the process worked well as you were still able to maintain a fairly high quality product but you were able to drastically lower the costs and thereby make the single layer DVD media more affordable. In the case of your Double Layer media production however, I am finding it increasingly difficult to support your decision to switch. I remember a year ago when sales on your double layer media were widespread and one could easily find your high quality Singapore produced MKM001 DL Discs for around $1.40-$1.60 a disc between online deals and in store sales. However since the outsourcing of your DL media production to Moser Baer, I find myself feeling cheated on both fronts. Numerous reports will attest that the Moser Baer produced discs are of significantly inferior quality. Examples including scratched/scuffed discs from the factory, fingerprint smudges (from the factory), spotting in the dye and a huge disparity in PIF/PIE scans between the Singapore produced and Moser Baer produced MKM discs. The Moser Baer produced discs have a huge range in quality. From being close in quality to the Singapore produced discs to being far worse than the general quality and compatibility that can be expected from Taiwanese Manufacturers such as Ritek and CMC Magnetics. If you have taken a look at the track record of either Ritek or CMC Magnetics' DL media production, you know that they certainly are not any benchmarks for quality or compatibility. So to be faced with a product from you (that carries the Verbatim label AND PRICE-TAG) that varies so widely in quality is just unacceptable in my opinion. Couple this with the fact that the frequent sales that I enjoyed a year or so ago have all but disappeared and now I am lucky to find your discs in the $2 per disc price range and I no longer have the luxury of ordering online since I refuse to take the chance of playing russian roulette with your Moser Baer produced DL discs. Quite frankly they are just too expensive to take that risk. So from the point of the consumer, I feel not only cheated in terms of the quality and compatibility of your product, but I feel cheated in terms of the price I pay for it.
Once again to put this into perspective. Last year I was paying $1.40-$1.60 a disc for the highest quality DL media available and now I am lucky to find them for $2 a disc and am subjected to taking my chances with a manufacturer that clearly has poor quality control. I'm not saying your home plant in Singapore NEVER has any quality control issues, I am merely saying that the frequency of faulty and incompatible discs has increased much more so than it should've and thus far the customer is seeing no price benefit for the switch. I also understand that the average consumer is not a media enthusiast such as myself and knows precious little about name brand's outsoucing to different manufacturers with differing quality control standards. However, I am not alone and the number of folks who share my views grow with each passing day. I know that you have the ability to put pressure on both your manufacturers and the retailers. Let's see if we can't raise the quality standards or lower the pricetag (or maybe a little bit of both). I would like to be able to continue to recommend your products to people as being the benchmark of quality for media. Let's make it happen.

Thank You for your time.

For those looking there is currently an auction on ebay for 10 or 20 packs, MIS in the subtitle. 20 pack is $29.99 shipping is under $6 in the US, discount for extras. They ship internationally also, more expensive but they'll ship 2 packs for the price of the shipping for one. I just stocked up being these things seem to be getting harder to find. Still had 48 available after I bought mine. Auction ends this Thursday.

By the way nice email 'jesterrace777', I'll be interested to see if they send you any kind of real reply or just a canned email.

I order one pack of twenties about a month ago from this exact seller (but they mistakenly shipped me 2 20 packs....LOL), but I found out that they are made in INDIA and NOT in Singapore.

Well I'm NOT using a recommended pioneer burner (using the TSTCorp burner that comes with current hp laptops), but I have had problems with some of these discs. Sometimes the burned backups work flawlessly all the time, but then some other backups don't boot at all with these discs. Then there was this one time were it the disk couldn't be finalized during a burn.

So there are mixed results.

But at the same time the backups that were made from a 5 packs of Verbs 10x (or was is 8x) that I bought from Best Buy all burned and works perfectly everytime, and those discs were made in Singapore.

Now I'm not discouraging anyone from purchasing these, because i think they are a great deal. In fact I'd probably buy some more if I ever ran out.

jesterrace777
Good to know. I will hold off on the purchase then. Not worth taking the risk of getting MII discs, when there are more guaranteed methods of getting MIS for around the $2 per disc mark. Incidentally COMPUSA has the 25 packs of Sony DL DVD+R for $50. Not quite as good of a deal but once again if you buy locally you can ensure that you get MIS by checking each spindle. As for the 8x MIS discs that you had good luck with, they are in fact the official 8x rated MKM003 discs WHICH ARE ALL STILL PRODUCED IN SINGAPORE. They are the only ones I would trust to order online these days but outside of the microcenter deal (15 for $28+shipping) they are kinda pricey.
ceejay818

i just emailed the seller asking wtf is going on

seller responded and said he carries both india and singapore and doesn't check what goes out. he is sending me the singapore discs and will refund me cost of return. so anyone who is going to order from him - remember to put a note saying you only want singapore discs.

it will say where it's made on the wrapping by the upc code. the india ones work but the quality isn't that great. i've had 3 discs out of 20 that gave me a dirty disc error while i was playing
forget2rememb3r
Do you recommend going through the send back and what not? If only 3 out of 20 gave you dirty discs error, it doesn't matter to me if I get to avoid another week of shipping and what not.

I think I have around 3 to 5 out of 20 that don't work properly, so if you don't want to wait and don't care about quality/money then I recommend not to send them back.
