The objective of the Backup Forum as per the front page of the forums.xbox-scene.com is
"Technical and General discussion about DVD DL burning, and iso creation and manipulation for the purpose of archival backup of material you own. Hard Moderated."

It is not about the the best place to find DVDs and such discussions would fall outside the scope of this forum. On the other hand, so many of the problems we see here are coming from people using DVDs that do not produce adequate results, and often these are as expensive as the higher grade DVDs.

It is well recognize that the Verbatim +R DL are today (jan 2007) the best media for your X360 backups.

With the only objective to support the backup effort of the members with information to access adequate media at a price that is equivalent (or sometimes better) than some of the lower quality media, we could post here any deals we might see on the Verbatim +R DL Media.

In the context of how this barely fit in the scope of this forum, we must accept some rules:

1) All X-S rules are in effect.
2) When you see a good deal on verbatim and that you are not the party selling, plse post it.
3) If you own the DVDs or work for a party selling the dvds, then you are not allowed to post in this topic. In that case please go the B/S/T forum and post there (read carefully and comply to the rules of that forum).
4) Do not ask "Hi, Where can I find ... I leave in..." without searching the thread first or your post will be removed.
5) Do not post about other brand, unless it is one of the rare case of Verbatim inside (MKM00x)

The posts in this thread are obviously For Your Information only and anyone choosing to conduct any sort of transaction with any of the parties mentionned does so at their own risk and expense.

Enjoy, get the good stuff, it is worthed cool.gif .

Note: There are sites like CDFreaks.com that are focused on CD/DVD/Burner and where you can find far more extensive information on DVD media and burner bargains (CD Freaks Bargain Basement).

WARNING: It was mentionned in another thread recently (and in some indutry sites including verbatim-outsources-double-layer-dvd-production-to-india ), it seems verbatim will start outsourcing part of his DVD +R DL production to MBI (Moser Baer India). You should start seeing these on the shelves end of Q1 or early Q2 2007. The current unconfirmed news are that they will continue to produce at their Singapore facilities as well. No word yet whether the production of the respective facilities will be assigned by region or not. It would be good to start looking at the label and search for a "Made in Singapore" wink.gif .

Unfortunately with newegg, the deals come and go very quickly, so you have to act fast. It's back up to regular price now. *EDIT* Whoops, spoke to soon they are now $36 shipped for the 20 pack.

The cheapest places to buy media in the UK (In My Experience) are these suppliers :

http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/
http://www.svp.co.uk/

However the going rate (In the UK) for Verbatim is around £17 for a 10pack (Rip Off!) . I personally have been using RIDISC / Datawrite media as it works fine and is only £6 for a box of 10. Look at DVD media reviews on these sites and many customers say stuff like "Works great on xbox 360" for various brands of media. I am sure Verbatim are very good but at a ripoff price of £17 compared to £6 they arent getting my business, even if you coaster a few on a cheap brand its still more cost effective.
DarrenR
Datawrite printables, I can't really be bothered messing about anymore. I should have gone for Verbs in the first place. Whos the nice guy in the US?

Thanks
jesterrace777
Take a wild guess. biggrin.gif BTW any problem if they are just the regular labeled Verbs and not the printable ones? Printable ones are significantly more expensive.

Anyways, For those of you folks in the US you can setup a new account with google checkout and get a 20 pack of the D/L Verbatim DVD+R discs for $31.80 shipped from http://www.shop4tech.com. Sign up at: https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogi...p;ltmpl=default
jesterrace777
Yes, it ships to the UK and pretty much anywhere else in Europe. Obviously you will be paying more than US prices but you will still be paying a bit less than SVP (which is currently the cheapest prices on DL that I can find in the UK/Europe). E-mail me or PM me for more details.

Anyways, for those of you who don't mind ordering in bulk I found a new deal for ya in the States:

10 packs of D/L Verbatim from http://www.officemax.com for $15+tax each

Order 4 packs or more and get free shipping (free shipping for orders of $50 or more at officemax.com)

Unfortunately you do have to pay state sales tax if you have an Officemax in your area but it essentially translates to the same deal as when the 20 packs go on sale at bestbuy for $30+tax each, and using this method you get it delivered directly to your door. 4 10 packs (or 40 discs) worked out to $63.56 shipped for me after tax or ($1.59 shipped per disc). No rebates or goofy one time coupons to get this deal. You just need to order 4 packs or more.

officemax has 10 PACKS OF VERBS FOR 14.99 CHEAP
jesterrace777
Yup, posted that above. Unfortunately, the deal doesn't apply in Australia. Might I suggest checking out the bargain basement at CDFreaks as I believe there is a thread there dedicated to Australian media deals.

Thanks for the tip. I just went to my local OfficeMax and picked up a few boxes in person - same price!

I looked on their website earlier today because I was wondering the same thing after reading about the office max deal on here, it also does not say anywhere on their website that this is a sale price. $1.50 a disc, and with jewel case, I think I will be buying my dl discs from there now.

They are not in the jewel case. They are in a small spindle of 10 and yes this does seem to be a nomal price for officemax. Now bring on the coupons so that we can get them for even cheaper. biggrin.gif

Flashed my box some weeks ago - it took some time, but finally I succeded with no help but this forum.

Has now used by first 10 pack DL' - Verbatium - bought in London for GBP 14 in a small store next to Aldgate station in East London before I started the project.

But I don't live in London - I just go there on business from time to time. I live in Denmark - probably the country that has the highest taxes on DVD - ordinary single layer DVD's are EUr4 and up - I guess a DL would be EUR10 per piece at least. mad.gif

I have looked around on the net. My normal German supplier Nierle only sells Verbatium in single or 5 pieces - normally they are cheap, but not this time. sad.gif

Where should I go - any good webshops to recommend?

Especially suggestions that is located just south of the Danish/German boarder would be nice - I will go there in eastern.

p.s. Hope this treath do not offency any of the rules - As far as I could see it did not.

Lets find the best and cheapest supplier in EU (to prevent VAT issues etc.) love.gif
jesterrace777
Did that price include VAT? As for sourcing the cheapest DL Verbatims in Europe, sometimes you need to look no further than someone's sig in order to get your answer. wink.gif
jesterrace777
Even if the Officemax stores in your area don't cary them you can still get them for the same price if you order online and get 4 or more of them (free shipping on orders over $50).

I think the cheapest one is $40 bucks. I don't have a membership but a friend is going to make a trip there for me.
jesterrace777
Okay folks, looks like they have finally shown up. I was wondering why the packaging and quantity of the 50 pack DL Verbatim seemed so out of place. It was reported earlier this year that Verbatim was going to start outsourcing SOME of it's DL media production to Moser Baer in India. I just had a confirmed report from a guy over at CDFREAKS who purchased a 50 pack of DL Verbatims from Sam's Club that they are Made In India (Moser Baer). Not saying don't jump on that deal, I'm just saying I would start checking the packaging and verify which country they are made in before purchasing. Moser Baer has had a mixed track record with their single layer media and given the fact that you can easily purchase Made In Sinapore MKM DL Verbs for only 10-15 cents more per disc, I personally wouldn't waste the money, unless you really can spare it for testing purposes. Who knows, some of these 50 packs might still be made in singapore, but you never know.
DarrenR
Anyone reckon they can get their hands on these and see how well they might perform?
jesterrace777
Not at those prices they won't. The one guy who bought them is returning them with due post haste. Here is a link to the thread discsussing them:

Ok - thought I'd contribute my findings on this for UK based people.

Cheapest place by some margin was actually eBay - one of the sellers will do 20 spindle packs for £28.99 plus £4.99 postage, but the postage drops to £2.50 for any more packs bought.

The seller was called saskia73b and here's an example auction number: 160111303978

Having bought 2 of these, I've now found an even cheaper source by some margin.

http://www.wizardprice.com/product_details...-_storage_media

This place sells 10 packs for £10.33 including VAT - the postage is very high at £10, but this covers up to 30kg so if you buy a load of them, you'll save a fortune. I've just place an order for 20 cake tins and the postage is still £10 - can't find anywhere getting anywhere near this price.

Note: the website is dodgy, and will calculate the postage incorrectly (peaks at £30 after adding 12 or so, then stays at £30). However, if you place the order and then ring up the customer service number, they'll amend the order to £10 postage and refund the difference - I have an email to that effect from the customer service department who say the website gets 'confused' smile.gif

Hope this helps someone.

The price for the Verbatim DVD+R DL 8.5GB/240 min. 2.4X - 30 pk is $49.84+Tax... which makes the price per DVD+R DL about $ 1.80/Per in my area... The good thing is that this are not from India but from Singapore... So they are consider the good ones...

The bad thing is that just a few are available in a few locations... So go to their site and look for the one that shows they have 1 available... But they should have more then one in store... But not many... One location I called had 13 of them left today...

Not sure if I will get a few of the 30 pack and 1 of the 50 or if I will stick to only getting as many as I can of the 30 pack...
jesterrace777
If you order 4 packs or more (or if your local store happens to have them) you can get a better deal from Officemax. 10 packs for $15+tax each. If you order in large quantities then you can try tracking down a coupon and get them for quite cheap. I ordered 10 packs of 10 from them and used a $30 off $150 coupon and ended up paying roughly $1.28 a disc and they are the exact same things as those 30 packs at Sam's Club and are all made in Singapore. Don't quote me on this but methinks that Verbatim might do like Fujifilm and outsource their largest quantities to Moser Baer in India (ie 50 packs or larger) but the smaller quantities will still be made in Singapore. Verbatim did say that some production will still be handled by MKM in Singapore so they aren't ceasing all production.

TY JR777...

I had gone to Sam's yesterday and got 120 DVD+R DL's Verbatim's(Singapore) for about $1.80 per DVD-R DL after taxes... Thanks to u... I'll be returning them this week... Glad I hadn't opened any of them yet...

Thanks to u'r info I was able to call in an order to OfficeMax of 100 DVD+R DL's Verbatim's(Singapore) this morning and I was able to get the same discount of $30 off $150... Making my cost per DVD+R DL $1.31 after taxes... So u just saved me $50 bucks... laugh.gif

If anybody is in need of 100 DVD+R DL's Verbatim's(Singapore)... All u need to do to get this deal is to call the order in (1-877-OFFICEMAX) of 10 packs(If u order more then 10 packs... U won't save as much $$$)... And add a box of paper clips to go over the $150 mark... When I called the cheapest box of paper clips they had where $1.09... Do like if u'r ordering from their catalog and mention offer # 117980320402 ($30 off $150)... I found the offer # @ DealSPL. This is the only way I was able to get this deal since the coupon codes out there have already been used up... But they are taking the offer #... I should have my DVD's tomorrow..

After looking around the net for over week... This is the best price I was able to get...

TY for the hook up JR777...

Damn.. I love this forum.. Glad I am back in the scene... cool.gif
jesterrace777
They also have a 49 cent staple puller and a 50 cent marker on there which will both put it just over the $150 mark so you can use the coupon. Yeah, I always stay on top of the best prices of DL media as my business depends on it. wink.gif

I just spotted a way better deal than Future Shop for Canadians:
Direct Canada's Verbatim section

I haven't used Direct Canada (yet) but the few reviews I found about them were good.

BTW, what gives better result 8x or 2.4x ?
jesterrace777
When they aren't on sale, then you are correct that that site is better. Anyways, as for the 8x or 2.4x, it depends on your burner. The Pioneer burners will all support 6x or 8x on the 2.4x official rated discs without much trouble. I burn at 6x all of the time on this media with no complications on my 111D. So unless you have a burner that limits burning on these discs to 2.4x and you desperately want to burn faster than I would stick with the 2.4x discs. Cheaper and they still give great results at higher burned speeds.

Ebay seller Jugewell have some great deals on the Singapore Verbatims. Really good deal if you buy more than one of the 20 packs. You can get to his store here as well, www.ugaps.com
RaGe
Anyone know where you can get them for about a buck each?
jesterrace777
Why is it that people still think that ebay is a great place to pick up media. After factoring in total costs (shipping, ect.) you almost always end up getting ripped off, that guy charges about $205 shipped for 120 discs AND THAT IS IF you get it for the opening bid price. You can get 12 10 packs (120 discs) from officemax for about $190 after tax and with free shipping on a regular basis and you can get them for MUCH cheaper if you get a coupon code. I did this and ended up with 10x10 packs (100 discs) for $127.61 with all charges included and thus far every 10 pack that I have recieved from OM is MIS. @Rage, afraid the deal I got is about as good as it gets here in the states. Canadians can get them for around $1.20USD per disc when futureshop has them on sale though.

At $2 a disc+tax that isn't much of a deal. Microcenter is under $1.70 a disc (with shipping included) and even less if you have one local. Newegg has them in 20 packs for $35 with shipping included or $1.75 a disc. There are always deals going. IMHO if you live in North America these days and pay more than $1.80 a disc for the regular DL Verbatim, you are getting ripped off.
