I'll start off by saying I bought Oblivion, then my Gaming PC Died.
And this doesn't even have the room to handle it, let alone play it.

So, I thought I might be able to extract textures from my CD, would I be able to use the oblivion construction set to do this (Without fully installing the game.)?

My plan was to convert some oblivion texture's, i.e the H.u.D.
To xbox, for whenever I have time for my xbox......

But I would need texture names and sizes.
So, does anybody here have the pc version of morrowind, that might be able to simply supply me with the information.

I'd be willing to share my creation's / conversions with the community(If allowed).
(I consider myself highly skilled in Photoshop )

Also, because of all the varying formats, does it accept it as any of it's supported.

As far as textures, TGA or DDS works.

Because the Morrowind Construction set looks for DDS's as textures, but doesn't complain with TGA's.

Anyways, sounds like a great idea.

It'd be even better if by the time you've finished, Rwolf and I have cracked the Xbox .bsa for one nice big file.

what? a guy cant memorize every texture name in morrowind? *snicker*

oh, btw... never use TGA, its much larger than dds's, just convert any image thats not a dds and convert it to dds dxt1, and if it has lots of transparency save it as dds dxt3 and always remember to have it generate mip maps... the game looks like ass if the textures have no mip maps...

Main thing now is, texture dimensions, anyone know any listing that supplies Height and Width, and the max xbox is able to handle..

Well I've been working with texture sizes for some time now... and it's really difficult to judge how large of a file morrowind can handle on xbox, since your not REALLY replacing the files, your just adding textures and thoes new textures override the old ones... so until we can figure out how to pack and unpack the xbox bsa file (the file that contains all the original data (textures, meshes, etc...)) we can't really make the textures the same size and the original xbox textures, as that would cause ddes... we actually need to add textures that are HALF the size of the Xbox textures, so an average land texture would come down to somewhere around 64x64pixels

if we could open the bsa, replace all the original textures with replacements, then pack the bsa again... im sure we could go at least 128x128 for a basic land texture, and twice that for bodies, faces, armor, etc...

By the way... theres an easy way to tell what size texture you will need... say an average body texture is 64x64... something smaller than the body itself would obviously be a smaller texture...

and one last note... the dds format needs to be pixel sized accordingly

the '.' represents one of the values to the left, so 64x256 would be acceptable....

I wonder how different the pc and xbox .bsa is....
Don't think the pc bsa unpackers would work?
I like doing things by the book when it comes to modifying files.
So I get the least DDE's possible.

apparently the xbox bsa indexes alot of things differently, so you cant use a normal bsa unpacker, wed need someone whos good at programming to make us a custom bsa unpacker for the xbox...

I think having someone who has the pc version would be a big help.


Mainly because, if theres like a strip of bark... It could have been skinned length wise or height wise...
So, what makes for some very tedious work, could be massively simplified..

I think I might try contacting a skinner at random off the elder scroll boards.
Maybe one would be willing to help me, out of sincerity and a love for morrowind.

anywho! I have the pc morrowind and listing thoes filesizes wont work since the developers shrank all of the textures on the xbox version themselves... so im not sure the exact filesizes for all the textures... i have an idea that all the textures were resized by around 50%

Those bsas are one of the most guideless hexing experiences I have ever had. Other than maybe Halo maps.

Nice skins by the way. I like the lunchroom tile, it always look kind of wierd having monochorme metal on the floor.
