Full Version: Xbox Live - Copy Hdd Key From Original Drive?

All, just a quick question or two. In years past I've always used 2 XBOXs... one for Live and the other (with a humungous drive) for backups, XBConnect, X-Link, etc. Now, I'd like to use one XBOX for both. I still have the original hard drive from the XBOX I modded. I backed up the EEPROM and have access to the hard drive key. Can I simply copy this key over to the humungous hard drive, relock the hard drive and then use the one system for both?

I ask this in a general sense since I'm looking to mod a XBOX or two for friends of mine. Friends who, unlike me, will not have multiple XBOX units.

FYI, I was playing around with ConfigMagic and was wondering if that would be all I need to update the new/upgraded hard drive with the original hard drive info.

TIA!

Hi I is possible to play on live with soft mods by using sid 4.5 .

It works by cold booting from org dvd by passing hacks.

I had to buy 2nd box as I went onto xbox live by cold booting but my IP on my xbox was set to static which usually would not cause problems but it did not connect to live and started trouble (maker LOL) shooter and found my hacks and I got baned!

my 1st xbox is quiet old anyway and dvd drive is a bit dogey and would not take too much abuse!

So I if u soft mod xboxes & if xbox live wants to start trouble shooter DON'T LET IT fix problem your self if u can by setting IP to DCHP and try that!

Do NOT use a SID softmod. ALL softmods support coldbooting. Use Krayzie's NDure if you are softmodded (via gamesave).

How are your boxes modded, ATM?

With a chip. DuoX2 GS. Thanks.

If your modded xbox has never been on live, then you simply boot the xbox with the chip disabled.

If it's been on live before, then there's a few more steps you'd need to follow (new eeprom & possibly new hdd). Let's just start with the basics first.

OK, this is what I was afraid of. Yes, the XBOX(s) has been on Live before although I think I do have one that hasn't since it doesn't have the XBOX Live icon within the MS dashboard. I've skimmed the many articles regarding this but I assumed many of the ones written were for folks that had fragged eeproms or were previously banned on Live.

I thought a simple copying over of the (original XBOX) hard drive key was all that was needed with a new/upgarded hard drive. Time to start taking notes.

Thanks.

There's much more to it than a hard drive key.
M$ also records other data (such as hard drive serial number).
For more information, see the Marriage theory thread in the xbox live forum.

You say you have 2 xboxes and 1 possibly has never seen xbox live. Let's use the box that has never been on live before since it makes things easier.

2nd question . . . has your large hard drive ever been on xbox live (banned or not)?

Refer to all the horror stories about things like "Error 22" in the softmod forums. Basically, SID is a steaming pile of crap which no longer needs to be discussed in this thread.

I read through that thread earlier today.

I can take a pic of the dashboard and post it. I don't recall ever seeing a MS dashboard w/o the XBOX Live icon. One unit I have doesn't have this icon.

None of larger hard drives have ever been on XBOX Live nor has any unit I've owned been banned... yet. I've always have owned at least 2 systems. One untouched for XBOX Live and the other for XBConnect/X-Link, playing backups and mostly for multimedia stuff. Til this day I'm impressed with the capability of a modded XBOX with tweaked dashboards.
