As the title says, I ran out and bought a Pioneer 111d dvd burner because thats the last thing I could think of doing to get these backups to work. Still I have nothing. The xbox tries to read the dvds, and just makes the high pitched noise. Anyone have any suggestions at all?

originals play good?
You can check if a burn is good at
How to verify a burn .
You can use the stealth check in XBCr to verify all parts are present in the image.

I have verified the burn, and used xbox back up creator, all checks out with the backups. I just adjusted the pots on my drive and its still a no go, although it doesn't emit the whine it used to make when trying to read a burned cd. Think I should take the pot further down?

Originals play fine or not?
I think you need to bring your original and corresponding backup to test with a friend that you know has a functional drive. It would confirm the backup are OK before playing with any pot/laser.
just IMHO.
