This is the first I've learned about this; will this allow people to play Xbox vs PC in games like Halo?

That was a good idea on their part. Charging someone for the same service just on another platform doesn't result in the happiest customers. I won't be getting Vista until I buy another computer (6mos - 1yr), but I'll be interested to see how it works on the PC.

EDIT: @eldrich, I've heard rumors that you will be able to have people from both platforms in the same game, I'm not sure how that will work though, I'm much better with a keyboard/mouse than I ever will be with a joystick.

I just bloomin hope PC to PC gaming will remain free with games like Counter Strike Source.

I think I will stick to getting a 360 and use Live on that platform if I ever get one.

The statement in the original post is not exactly true.

If you originally subscribed to live on an xbox then CAN use that account with your xbox 360. However, if you subscribed to live on an xbox 360, then it CAN NOT be used with an xbox.

that's bad-a$$ yo they did a good thing bringing it to pc as well. but then agian there can be draw backs like for example M/K vs. Gamepad from xbx360 lol i think itll have a little challenge to over come but hey just get the XFps 360 version lol your set. they should just make game "cross platform" wait for it.... and be able to play with other cross platform games YA DIG lol. for example.. are you sure? i think if you do an account recovery you can go from a 360 to xbox.

I would like to know this as well because I know all of the xbox games I play on my 360 work fine online but just incase i send my 360 in for service, I should be able to use the same account on my xbox 1.

I am really liking this. So it pays to have Xbox live so now i can use it for my PC games. I cannot wait to try this out and i am happy it's the same price or i would feel stumped.

You can transer accounts by logging in with your passport account like Hotmail.

you can go xbox to 360 but not back again, once you recover your live account to the 360 its locked there you can not go back to the xbox.
it prevents people from going abck and forth back and forth.

the question remains can you be logged in on your xbox and Vista at the same time.
the importance of that is hosting games.

anyone who has hosted a 16 player match on RB 6 Vegas knows what i am talking about. hosting a 16 player match on the 360 is tasking. the game is laggy and jumpy. not internet lag but graphics and cpu lag as its trying to handle everything.

i would host a game on my pc and let it run and then play on my 360.
or run a dedicated server on the pc and play the xbox. and vise versa.
the advantage will ALWAYS go to the pc player when playing a FPS. sing a mouse and keyboard is 1005 more accurate.
the controller doesnt give you the finite controls when aiming that a mouse does.

i like the idea of cross platform gaming but ... it has its disadvantages.

also what about creating trainers like they have in the past for Counter Strike, and Medal of Honor.
headshots galor on the pc but zero on the 360..
anti fog hacks on the pc none on the 360..

see where i am going with this.

Well this seems cool. I mean the games that get released on both at the same times would be nice but that rarely happnes. But playing halo 2 on a console, meh. Gotta get my job and a 360.

That is plain FALSE.

What you mix up here is the question where you can administrate the account. If you transfer an XBOX1 Live account to the 360 then the whole administration can from then only be done on the 360.
BUT as another member here already wrote correctly one can still download the XBOX live account back again to the XBOX1. That is necessary if you accidentally deleted it. Even in this case the administration can still only be done on the 360. Because of the account transfer.

In Microsoft-land (Live) 1 USD = 1 Euro, that's why people living in EU are paying, for example, 49.99EUR for 49.99USD. The only way to get xbox live cheaper is to order a code card from an online store, where it's more around 30EUR. I think that this is again because Microsoft can make money this way

And as for cross-platform gaming... I have nothing against it, but it's really going to suck if PC users are allowed to play against console users.
