I have just installed the DuoX2 GS (white) chip, and flashed the bios with EvolutionX M8 Bios_v1.6 through the network option.

Now when I turn on the xbox, it looks likes it boots, it beeps, turns off, then tries again twice without a beep, and then the light ring blinks red and green, and that is it, I do not see a boot screen or anything.

I can still start the original xbox menu by powering on with the eject button.

Did I already brake my modchip?

I should still have the cromwell on bank 0, I guess, can I fix it with that?

Thanks for the help...

Sounds like nothing more than a bad flash to me. Try redoing it from CD or Xbox hard drive after redownloading the file.

What size bios did you use? You have to resize M8.16 to 512k before flashing it.
Boot from bank 0 and use Eurasia and a bios disc to reflash the chip. When Eurasia asks for the bios disc inserting, flick the bank switch with a toothpick or similar non metallic object, to Bank 1. The flash will go over the corrupt Bank
tahvall
I used a 256K bios. I thought that since the chip was not too expensive I would have the smallest size. dry.gif

So basically what I should do;
- burn the eurasia flash disc.
- flip the switch to bank 0.
- boot with the eurasia flash disc inserted.
- when getting the request for the bios disc, I need to flip the switch to bank 1.

About the bios disc;
in the eurasia rar file, I see a bios_disc and bios_disc_sh directory.
I assume I need the bios_disc which contains bios.txt, dummy50mb and raincoat.cfg.
Do I just burn that onto a disc?
Is that all I need, or do I need to resize M8.16 to 512k and put the bios.bin also on that disc?

I also found evox_m8plus_512kb_cromwell_iso.rar which is according to it's readme a
"ready to burn" cromwell (bios.bin) ISO 9660 format.

Can I use that one instead of the bios disc?

And what would be better, the evox or xecuter (2 or 3??) for a newbie...

I know, a lot of question...

Thanks for the help so far smile.gif

That is why the flash did not work

Yes that is it exactly
Your bios must be 512k.
Don't use the bios you just listed as it may not even be the correct one.
I would obtain M8+.16 from Xbins. Use EVTOOL 1.09 to resize this to 512K
rename it so it is bios.bin.
Your bios disc should have on it
bios.bin (512k V1.6 bios file)
aabbcc.dat (Dummy file 100mb or so)
Raincoat.cfg
Burn this disc as a plain and simple finalised data disc. Nothing special about the setttings.
You don't need to put the text document on the disc.
Make sure to place the files for the bios disc in the root of the disc (Not inside a folder)

Yes you should do that but switch the bank over the corrupt bank AFTER you get past the bios which means once the disc is inserted.

All you need is those files. I recommend making a bigger dummy file but it's not needed. The BIOS file goes on it's own disc as BIOS.BIN. Yes it has to be caps.

Never heard of it. Just stick with the old fashioned method.

Xecuters are for devs and such. It has alot of features you really don't need. But if you really want one go with the Xecuter 3.

That is not the case (No Pun intended)
Not when flashing via Eurasia. bios.bin is lower case
From the read me with the Eurasia files
QUOTE
add the
bios file you want to flash to this dir and make sure file is named bios.bin
(lower case).

Don't flick the switch after inserting the bios disc, or bank 0 could be partially erased if you don't get the switch across quick enough. Flick it after the drive ejcts the Eurasia disc but before inserting the bios disc

I think he is referring to the Xecuter 2 bios not replacing the chip
tahvall
So after these steps I should be good to go?

- burn the eurasia flash disc.

====================================================================
The bios disc should contain the M8+.16 from Xbins.
And the bios should be resized to 512K.
After resizing it, it should be renamed to bios.bin in lowercase.
Contents of the disc should be:
bios.bin
dummyfile
raincoat.cfg

(Do I need to make changes in raincoat.cfg?)

====================================================================

- Burn the bios disc

- flip the switch to bank 0.
- boot with the eurasia flash disc inserted.
- when getting the request for the bios disc, I need to flip the switch to bank 1.
At this point the eurasia disc will eject. With the tray ejected, flip the switch to bank 1.
- Insert the bios disc.
- Follow steps on screen?

Yes, I was referring to the xecuter bios not the chip.

Thanks again smile.gif

Yes you have it correct and in the correct order (no changes needed to raincoat.cfg)

In your signature I saw the easy duo x2 install.

In there it shows:
Bios Types
Ver. 1 to 1.5 X2 4979 or later. Evox M7 or M8.
Ver 1.6 Evox M8.16 M8+.16 or X2 5031 V16 Plus

I have a 1.0 xbox.

So I should not get the M8+.16 from Xbins?

So I need another evox with 4979 in the filename?
Chancer
If you have V1 use M8+ (Non 1.6) or X25035 (Non 1.6)
I assumed you had a 1.6 as you flashed a 1.6 bios to start off with. As you have a V 1 you should not use a 1.6 bios. You can more or less go for any 512k non 1.6 bios. I like X24981 as it is customisable using XBTOOL
Alex548
If you have a 1.0 motherboard, you'll need a 1.0-1.4 compatible BIOS.
The M8 BIOS you previously flashed to your chip is for the wrong version.

Might as well just use X2_5035 since it's already 512K (no resizing needed).
tahvall
Is there a site or topic where it explains the different version numbers?
Those 5035 and 4979 numbers?
What do they stand for? Just builds? Or can you when you just look at the number immediately recognize the size and what type it is?

Some bios guides and stuff Here

Alright, I tried to boot eurasia, but it did not work.

I burned the iso file to a DVD+RW and a DVD+R and everytime I boot up
it tells me: Insert cd and press A button

So it seems like it is not recognizing my discs?
(I used the same discs to flash my bios yesterday and it did read them at the time).

Or because it is a cd image, I can't burn it to DVD?
Do I need a CD-RW?

Or what else am I missing in this process?

Thanks again.
Chancer
What burning program.
I always use IMGBurn. It is free and makes a real easy job of burning images.
Make sure you are not burning the image as data if using Nero (It is easier to do than you think as people confuse the ISO9660 standard as meaning they are burning an Image.)
Just another thought you have to use one of the old style large MS controllers. third party ones do not work with Cromwell
tahvall
I burned it with dvddecrypter.
Just downloaded imgburn which apparently replaced dvddecrypter.

What do you mean with the old style large MS controllers?

Does it matter what booktype the dvd is set to?

Right now the burned disc has the following info:
Disc Information (F:\)
-------------------
Type : DVD+RW
Capacity : 510:01.29 (1052 MB)
Tracks : 1
Sessions : 1

File System : ISO9660, Joliet, UDF
Title : CDROM
Date : 18 January 2006
Publisher : n/a
Application : MKISOFS ISO 9660_HFS FILESYSTEM BUILDER & CDRECORD CD-R_DVD CREA

Files on the disc are:
Directory of F:\

01/14/2004 08:01 AM 52,428,800 dummy50mb

01/17/2006 08:21 PM 902,122 vmlinuz
5 File(s) 58,842,272 bytes
0 Dir(s) 0 bytes free

The type of drive in the xbox is a thompson drive.
tahvall
I reburned the DVD+RW with ImgBurn on 1x. and that worked.
It booted up eurasia, I reflashed bank 1, and now when I boot up I see the XBOX logo with underneath: executer 2.

However, when I try to load a backup disc it tells me that it is is not an XBOX disc and that the XBOX can't read it. For the backup I used a Verbatim DVD+R.

Is the XBOX sensitive when it comes to media? Should I only use DVD-R for the XBOX? Will that solve these issues? Or is there a special way of burning the game?

Thanks for all the help smile.gif
tahvall
I was reading this topic:
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act...;t=50839&s=

Do I need to turn off the IGRs ?

Perhaps burning on 1x will help also.. hmm...

Is there a downloadable test disc or something? I don't mean an illegal game or anything, but a test disc so that I can check to see if the modchip and bios are doing their jobs??

Thanks.

ps: where is the edit option? It's gone now.

Chancer
You possibly have a Samsung DVD drive in the Xbox. They don't read DVD+R unless you change the booktype setting when burning to DVD Rom. Try DVD-R
tahvall
My booktype is always set to DVD-ROM for DVD+R discs, otherwise my PS2 won't read them either.

According to cromwell and flashbios I have a Thompson drive.

What I did yesterday was reflash my chip with EvoX M8+, burn the game on 1x instead of fullspeed, and now that works smile.gif

I'm now trying to install Avalaunch, because I understand that you can add menu entries there and it is skinnable.

Thanks for the help guys smile.gif
