I've noticed people having this problem when they flash their Xbox 360 drives but this is NOT the case here. My dog was running like a crazed maniac in the house accidentally running into the entertainment center, on which all the way to the top I had my 360 sitting vertically, causing my 360 to fall down on the carpet.

Before I opened the system up I noticed that the Xbox was still working fine (no ring of death what so ever) loading everything from the hard drive, BUT when I tried to put ANY disk in it sounded as if the Spindle Motor wasn't supporting/clamping down/holding the disk in place so all I could hear was the motor scratching the disk trying to spin it.

So I open the 360 and take the DVD drive apart and I noticed that the black TIP of the Spindle Motor (that hold the Disks in place) broke off so I superglued it perfectly back on. I put the system back together and now it takes about 5 pushed on the eject button before the tray opens (it opens immediately with a disk in it).

Anyway, HERE IS THE REAL PROBLEM NOW.....When I put a disk in the 360 the disk spins fine from what I hear and the laser does attempt to read the disk but all I see on the 360 menu (on the bottom where it shows the DVD tray status) is a continuous "Reading" message (which a lot of times it will just keep reading the disk with no success until I shut the system down) followed by a "Oped Tray" message.

MY QUESTIONS ARE:

1. IS MY 360 FIXABLE (do you think I can swap the motor or laser and it will work?)???
2. IF YES HOW CAN I FIX IT???

ANY HELP WOULD BE EXTREMELY APPRECIATED AND IF YOU'RE EVER PLANNING ON GOING TO GREECE I WILL BE YOUR FREE TOUR GUIDE!!! biggrin.gif

yeah you can fix it. if it is the spindle that you are referring to that broke, you would probably have to replace it. gluing it back is probably whats causing the problem now. Is it possible to post a picture or two of the damage? that would help a lot

thanks

ok, so it is the spindle itself. your best bet would be to get a new spindle/motor, or a whole new driver

Yeah the top black part broke off! Thanks again for the suggestions.
