I know this is preety noobish, but what is exactly the purpose of modified firmware? I looked into the Blaster360 and i thought it looked pretty cool. Does firmware allow you to run unsigned code or something? Will this void an Xbox 360's warranty? Can MS release an update that can stop a 360 from working because of this?

The purpose of a firmware hack is to play backups of your games. We cannot yet run unsigned code on most 360s. There has been a hypervisor exploit found in the older 360 kernels, but Microsoft patched it and released an update.

Yes, this will void your warranty.

We don't know what Microsoft can do to our 360s. Currently, they are not banning 360s with hacked firmware, but they may begin to do so at any time. They have not released any sort of update to break/brick hacked 360s, but again this could possibly happen at any time.
