They're putting free shit on it to help justify the $180 dollar tag. sleeping.gif
I am appalled at the fact that they would even consider charging that much. I would much, MUCH rather put that towards a Wii.
I really hope nobody plans on getting one of these. Shove it back in MS's face.

You mean it doesn't cost 180$ to put that shiny case around the HDD?
luther349
wow omg thats just so amasing its the same content thats on my 20 giger that oh i deleted other then hexec hd lol. the price is insane relly 180 big ones for a 120 gig hd god what do they run now 40 bucks new for a pc maybe less i haent checked latly. for a 180 big ones it should be at least a 500gb drive. thers a brite side to this thow couse you all knoe people will buy them anyways. the 20 gigs will be going dirt cheap used you can just pick up 2 or 3 of them for less then what ms whants for the 120 and have plenty of space lol. or you cab use the hack to use a old pc hardrive probly pick up whatever model they hack for 20 or 30 bucks. im no math guy but thats like 4 times what a sata drive cost to build and sell.

You need a real working 120Gb M$ HDD to make the hddss.bin from that you can put on a Western Digital BEV 2.5", you can't make one up from scratch.

Has anyone got any info from M$ if they're going to "buy back" the older 20Gb HDD's when you want to get a bigger HDD?
bloodyorgasm555
we could use the hack that was discovered awhile back with the 20 gig. you use your own hard drive instead of buying one.(even though you are limited to a certain model) i mean that would be alot cheaper. biggrin.gif
i think thats what luther349 was saying unsure.gif
ConteZero76
Maybe I should remember you that it's quite possible that Microsoft add an HDD check on Live!, banning the ones with cloned disks.
Just to know.

120gb is nice to have especialy if u download movie content and hopefully iptv with the dvr service would be great exept for the service fee unsure.gif
luther349
yea a 120gb is nice but im talking the inflated cost of the thing. and it seems to be something ms is doing often with memery. thats why they dont whant 3rd party memery couse people can make drives and memery cards far far cheaper then a ms branded one. as i said befor iptv and movie downloads are just fine on a 20gb model.

You still need an original 120Gb Microsoft Xbox 360 HDD to take the hddss.bin from. You can't use the one from your 20Gb, because that's for a 20Gb model only (you can only make a Xbox 360 compatible 20Gb HDD with that). You can't just buy a new WD drive either, since you have no hddss.bin to put in it.

Did you even read my comment?

EDIT: 20Gb is fine... untill you run out of free space.

i will be buying one, cloning it and maybe doing a little damage to the pins and getting a refund.. Since the hdd will be dead, the serial wont be used thus making me safe from any possible HD checks in the future.

I suggest everyone do this, let ms have a boatload of $180 HDD's see how they like that!

it was said that, if one wants to transfer their existing data from the 20 gig to the 120 gig, they will lose all data on the 120 gig hd. all the free stuff they put on there is gone

You can only move data from the 20GB Hard Disk to the 120 GB Hard Disk. Transferring data in the other direction, or any other combination, is not possible.
Any data stored on the 120 GB hard disk will be automatically deleted.
Any data stored on the 20 GB hard disk will be automatically deleted after it is moved over.
You cannot put the data from two or more 20 GB hard disks onto one 120 GB hard disk. If you attempt to move multiple drives, only the last one you move will be stored.
Once you move the data over, it cannot be placed back on the original hard disk

this is from http://blog.wired.com/games/2007/03/microsoft_data_.html

so where is the value now in buying one of these new drives.

i cant justify this.

it would have been better if m$ just didnt include the free stuff as a lure.

and lower the price. i mean WOW! $180 !! huh?
88 Ecko Unltd 88
yea $180 sounds too expensive especially since the market of harddrives aint nowhere around that price range .......... for 180 u could get 500gb hdd acualy it wouldnt even be 180 it be around 150

LOOK AT PRICES

It's a laptop hard drive...

laptop hdd prices

What pisses me off is how much they charge for the wireless adapter... don't they WANT everyone to be online? They should sell that thing for cost..
88 Ecko Unltd 88
lol i knew that lol

$72 for a 120gb hdd now that shounds much better link
what are they charging us ?? $80 for the hdd and $100 for the hdd case
jabroniekilla
I will just wait to make my own like you can now with 20gigs.
$180 towards a Wii sounds like a better idea.

No, they want people online to have a reliable connection. Wireless simply causes lots of problems, the more they discourage it the better in my opinion.

The process of MS making a harddrive available to u is different from an online retailer selling u straight from the manufacturer. So ofcourse the pricing is different.

its like saying why do games cost $60 when the disc only cost a couple dollars to make.

Do some research before u speculate, there is more added cost attached to the product than a regular hd.

this is exactly what i plan on doing.

it does seem a little strange to include all of that content on the HD when it will be wiped away when transferring data from your 20GB hard drive.
jabroniekilla
do current 20 gig hdd's have demos other than hexic? All I got on mine was a couple of videos and hexic. That is from july, maybe they added stuff recently?

good point. the transfer will delete all the content on the 120 thanks for the reminder.
Mad-Man-666
im just hoping this will be the key to cracking the 360.

after watching the video posted before this one and listening to the dude talk about how there is a application that runs to make the 120 drive work on your existing box. it sounds like "The Specialist" is going to have a field day when its released.
