I have been browsing this forum for awhile, i am "somewhat" computer savvy, but I am just getting into this xbox360 scene. I wanted to make a backup of Gears of War, because I bought it when it came out and in case it gets stolen or scratched I have a backup. Now I have the "backup.iso" on my desktop, but I am trying to figure out what to do next. I have been reading wxRIPPER, SS.bin, do I merge stuff? All of this stuff is kind of getting my head in a tailspin. Hopefully you understand and can help me. Also I bought a 5 pack of Verbatim's because from what I have been reading is the media to use.

I have Nero,ImgBurn to burn whatever you guys think is better for me.

I had a guy do the firmwire update so I really don't know exactly which firmwire I have. I am getting a pioneer dvd burner in the next couple of days and already have a 5 pack of verbatims so I think I am okay with that. Also the image plays the video so I am guessing the backup.iso is already been patched. I have not touched the backup.iso (and also I have a small backup.dvd file too...I dont have a ss.bin file) with the SS patcher/merger. I have nero, clonecd, img burn to use for burning. So it seems like I have everything I need I just dont want mess this up. Once I get the first one done I should be good to go.

I have the Xbox360 Hitachi drive

Now while I do coincide it is possible...
You really can not [currently] make working Backups with the GDR-3120L (a.k.a. Hitachi), ROM Versions don't matter, unless you wish to use the "WX Rip" method.
Which would require you to open your GDR-3120L up and eventually swap out a large DVD like "Gladiator" for the "Game" in question.
Afterwards you'd need to find the "ss.bin" File and then merge that with your *.iso.

Does (is), this start(ing) to sound like a lot of work for a mear Backup yet?!
So as a GDR-3120L User myself I saw the need for One of the "KREON Drives" early on:

ATA
Samsung SH-D162C
Toshiba TS-H352C

SATA
Samsung SH-D163A
Toshiba TS-H353A

These "Drives" can be flashed with the "Kreon Firmware" to be able to read both XBOX and XBOX360 Game Discs get the "ss.bin", DFI and PFI in One go.
Best of all I was able to get the Samsung SH-D162C (Bulk) for like €20.00(EUR), new.
A far cry from both the Xeno and Blaster and a whole Hell of a lot more useful to Hitachi Owners too.

As far as burning goes, most People here seem to recommend "Imgburn" and as far as Burrning App's go this is like Nero from about Ten Years ago minus
the Bloat, Simple clean and efficient.
As far as what to "Rip" with I'd recommend "XBOX Backup Creator" this Program should be able to both Rip and Burn, but I've had some problems with the
last build (v2.4), and GoW, and had to fall back on ImgBurn, hopefully (if it already hasn't been) this will be fixed in XbCr v2.5...
