On January 30th (The day Vista was released) I purchased a HP Pavillion dv6226us. The laptop came with a DVD-R DL combo drive. To make a long story short I ended up taking the laptop back to staples and traded it for another. Same Model #. The first one, a key fell off the keyboard and I could not get it reattached so HP customer support told me to take it back to staples and trade for another one. Which I did. But when I got home with the second laptop it had a totally different DVD-R DL drive.

The first laptop had a TSST corp TS-L632d drive. The first thing I did once I got it was try to burn a backup which was succesful. I did have some minor problems getting it to burn but finally it was burning xbox 360 backups flawlessly.

The second laptop has a Matshita UJ-850S drive. I have tried several times to get this drive to burn a backup with no success. I suppose that the Matshita drive does not allow bitsetting where the TSST drive did. So to my questions:

Has anyone else besides me came across this issue or does anyone have any suggestions that may help me get backups to burn with this drive? My Xbox 360 sammy drive is flashed with 3.1 firmware I believe. Does the newer firmware package allow my to use a drive that does not support bittsetting to burn backups? Basically I am trying to evaluate my options.

Should I buy a new drive for my laptop that I know works, or should I update the firmware on my 360? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If there is something I have left out that might help you help me just ask. I am sure I am not the only one here in the scene whom owns this laptop. Whats your trick?

Thanxs

UPgrade your samsung FW to latest (5.2) it is worthed, and should not require bit setting with 5.2.

That said, the matshita is a difficult drive when used in windows (the mac seems more comfortable with them)

thanxs bro. It seems you are always the one to help me. HA HA You are a true asset to the community. I sold my PC in which I used to firm my drive so I will probably end up having to send it off and have it done. Any suggestions?

I wish my laptop had a SATA port so I could do it myself. Thanxs again man for all the help.

Modchip Installers / Firmware Flashers would the best place to start looking.
