hey all, i'll be buying a 360 this summer, along with some type of widescreen HDTV. i'd been looking at larger 32" and 27" panels, but these are a little out of my price range(<=500 bucks) and dont have impressive contrast ratios. But, ive seen some 22" Widescreen LCD monitors in best buy salespapers, that boast a 3000:1 contrast ratio, along with a 5ms response time. they pack D-Sub and DVI connectors, and sell for around 300-350 bucks. But, nowhere in their description are the words High Definition, 720p, or anything that indicates usage for something other than PC display. for reference, here's one i have my eye on.

would that yield better quality than a 27 inch set with 720p, a 1000:1 contrast ratio and 8 ms response time? im only sitting 5 feet from my current tv, so big isnt really needed. what do you guys think?

edit: yeah, i'll be buying a VGA cable.

Yes you get HIGH DEF with PC LCD monitors but the picture is a lil distorted because Native resolution's of widescreen lcd's are not supported by the 360! Its not a big deal mainly just text is the only thing distorted contains small shadows. But if you do get a pc monitor lCD MONITOR get that Samsung! I have the 19" version of that same lcd (SAMSUNG 906BW) and its fukking sweet. The picture is real nice and bright...absolute no lag in games thanks to fast response time. Im amazed with my 19" cuoldnt imagine how great tha 22" would be...the 22" has higher resolution and higher contrast ratio than mine. LOOKS FUKKING AWESOME! Also M$ may add support at any time for native resolutions just something to consider im sure some day they will so if I were you go with that 22" its nice.

MY SAMSUNG 906BW heres a pic of mine so youu get an idea of how nice it looks!

WXGA is 1365x768px which is slightly better than 720p.
WXGA+ is 1440 x 900
WSXGA is 1680x1050

You should also know PC monitors have a 16:10 aspect ratio (L x W) as opposed to HDTV's which are 16:9

You will get some stretching. Some monitors have a setting to display the 16:9 aspect ratio, but the xbox won't display 16:10

The xbox VGA adapter, in lieu* of the component cables, will let you display 1365x768px

egh, 16:10 ? didnt notice that. i might have to bug microsoft for the next 3 months about making an update to their display resolutions. completly forgot about newegg, i'll have to take a look. nice monitor youlose, but i want the biggest my desk can hold, ya know? that 22 inch is as wide as i have room for. so, i'll be bugging the piss out of sanjay shareef-alblagad for a while until M$ releases an update. thanks!

It isn't ms but the game dev's which make their games 16:9

Some monitors can display 16:9. It's a setting, like centering the screen, or brightness.
Jake_Biggs
i know MS doesnt make the games in 16:9, but they make the software and hardware that runs them, soo... biggrin.gif. i might just have to find a similar monitor with 16:9, if the one i listed cant change sizes and such.
