hey Sharpe, screenshots really won't due any good, because you'll just see differn't pictures on every screen that don't match? So I have deleted all my pics from movies, settings, pictures, apps, filemanager ect.....except the default wallpaper dir. My buddy & I screwed around with the settings last night & just decided to keep the default folder in the media folder. Now theres no problem with the current lowrider xpr thats being used. To bad the old system doesn't work anymore though. I don't know if anyone here is actually using another xpr that they threw together or not. But this is my field of interest. Thats why I requested the folders for the skins wallpaper. I'm sure in the future updates things will be sorted.

Done a few more updates, mainly just tidying things up and stuff. I've also tried to tie up my custom labels a bit so that the skin works better in languages other than English.

Oh and I've also added another CD case music view - 3 icons to match the DVD case 3 icon view.

Can somebody tell me how to add the DVD case skin/cover to the list 1 view or Sharpe could you add in with your next update.
My internet connection was terminated last Saturday (who can guess why ) and now XBMC will not add movies to the library. So for now, I'm just using the old list view to view all of my movies on my PCs hard drive.

Hi Kautious619 - Mate I've done what you've asked and put the dvd covers in the main list view - they show up in the library mode and only work for movies (obviously), leaving TV eps icons unaffected.

How do I remove Programs from the home screen? I tried removing all sections of home.xml that include Programs. But when I reload the skin Programs was still on the home page.

I remember this was requested a while back as well and I forgot to get round to it.

I've just updated the skin and now you can disable Programs in skin settings.

Don't take this the wron gway, but if it's complaining about not having 2.0 version, it's highly likely your not using the newest version, as maybe something happened when you updated the xbmc.xbe file, and it's still an older version.
The reason i'm guessing this is because, of the 100's of thousands of people not having this same issue, running the newest version of xbmc, there's not any other solution that would make this happen with all other skins as well. As the saying goes, "If it smells like coffee, and it tastes like coffee, it's highly likely it IS coffee", meaning if you think you are running the newest version, and various skins are saying you aren't, the way xbmc is programmed, it's likely because you aren't running the proper version.
A helpfull way to check is to use the info (right stick click, move over left one notch (info), and click "A" button). Look towards the bottom of the screen slightly to the right, and look at the build date. Should say somewhere around Feb.2 if using newest T3CH build. Just double check that is all. Hope that helps out.

By the way, it don't say the version of XBMC needs to be 2.00 or higher it says the skin needs to be 2.00 or higher

I'm just meaning that since the majority of people aren't having this problem, and even if it only takes 1 person not having this problem, it's either a setup issue, or it's a dated build problem. If it's an XBMC problem (Meaing everything is all 100% set up right and configured properly), it will do the same for 100% of the people. That's what i was meaning. Also, some people i have helped in the past, it was determined that somehow the .xbe file didn't get copied over properly, or not overwritten, and found out it was accidently still an older version.
Thats why i mentioned to simply double-check the version number. It's also always mentioned if having problems with a build, to not copy files over when running XBMC, but rather use another program, either (Oh GOD, it's been so long since i've used anything else other then my X3 OS built in.) i don't even remember the other programs i used to use years ago, even though i also usually copy over, overwritting all files within XBMC. Once in a blue moon, i might have a small issue, and copy over again in X3 OS mode.)
You mentioned you started over, did that fix things? If not, we're here to help, but not in this forum post, check over further in the XBMC General section, so as to not bloat up this forum post, since it's not relating to this skin. I had this problem before and after the new build and I transfer with Unleashx. As a matter of fact I DL what ever and send a back up over to my PC and do things on my PC then send it back.


I looked into the info like you told me to and it says XBMC pre-2.1 ( compiled: Feb 10 2008 )
Then it says: MPlayer XBMC-SVN-r10070-4.1.2 ( Dec 26 2007 )

I might have found a bug.

When you are in the skin settings and you try and move to the right to select the options the options listed vanish.

For example, "Home Menu" in skin settings. When you try and move to the right to Enable RSS Feeds, the listed options disappear from the screen.

Thanks for that spot Cocophone - that all seems to have been caused by changing the version number from 2.0 to 2.1 in the skin.xml file - weird I've changed it back to 2.0 for now and that fixes it. I'll figure it all out eventually!

Okay I've done another update - main things I've been messing with are the home screen - finally figured out a way to make the movie countdown gif stop looping and I've also added some movie seat images to enhance the "home cinema look".

I've also continued to try and get skin setup to work better in different languages - by updating the main Home screen font to a newer version that supports accented letters and by (eventually) trying to gather my custom skin labels into a language strings file - making it easier to translate I hope.

I've finally done a few other minor things that were on the to do list.

Anyway cheers for reading and downloading - if anyone can think of more suggestions please fire them in - it's all those fantastic ideas that have built this skin.

hey sharpe awesome skin im loving it. one problem.. after updating to the newest build - i have my default start up window pointed to Videos, and everytime i start XBMC i get the Information Window popup automatically (where it asks what view, sort by, library, etc..) also i cant see the skin settings text either

is there anyway i can disable that?

-Maybe one view that shows 10 shows (5x2 rows) instead of 8 shows (4x2) i think it is. It would shows more shows at once, yet still won't be too small to see. Also add a kind of marquee board image behind it to look like a now showing theater marquee board.
-Maybe do something with the large wide icons view and add a marquee board looking image behind it, So it looks like your looking at a now playing marquee. Maybe i can mock up something if you need a better understanding of what i mean, hopefully that makes sense though,

Hiya rashkov - thanks for spotting the Video window startup thing - I've just fixed that. As for the skin settings text problem - make sure you've copied over the latest skin.xml file into the skin folder - I altered the skin version number a while back and that caused the skin settings text to disappear before I fixed it - sounds like you might have an old version of the xml. If it's still not showing let me know - it should show fine.


djdafreund - yeah a mockup would be great - if you get the chance mate.

That i can do. I have 5-6 different marquee styles i'll post shots of to get feedback on which one to use for the main view idea, then make the mockup using the winning one. (For the movie poster view one, tweaked i guess you'd call it.), and i'll do something similar to the wide tv icons view.

I've done another update - been trying to improve the "Plot list" view - taking advantage of the container content conditional visibility controls.

Movies now have a little sliding dvd icon coming out of the dvd case -



Whilst TV shows are geared up for wide icons -



You'll need an up to date build of XBMC for some of new stuff to work right - language strings and all that.

Very nice Sharpe!!! I'll try to make some mockups soon. Been trying to grab some images to use for the mockups. Turns out there's not as many images of theater marquee signs and poster holder images as i was hoping there was. I managed to get about 6-7 so far at least, which hopefully is enough to use for feedback here.
Is the movie dvd image change you made also done in your view with more then 3 images? Haven't grabbed your newest to try, on the road now til i get back. I mostly use the 'DVD Case Wrap' view, since it looks the nicest for my setup. And since it shows 5 icons onscreen instead of 3, i think it looks nicer when flipping through to pick a movie. Maybe a good mix can be done though. If not possible to add 1 more view "DVD Case Wrap 3", maybe modify a current one to be like "DVD Case Wrap 2"( with new overlay dvd image) but smaller to show 5 images onscreen (like DVD Case Wrap) instead of 3 (DVD Case Wrap 2)??
Also, could you please tweak the countdown animation, now that you got that working good? Right now it looks great, but it goes good in speed from "Start Picture" into the countdown, but slow down at 5 into 4, and right starting with 4, stops and then shows your view of what section you choose, instead of counting down to like 2-1 ( maybe only 2-3 frames needed of each number to help out this), or starting with #3 if that would cause too big an animation file. I also noticed since that change was made that it's more randomly but frequently been locking xbmc up for me at that point. Noticing my freemem showing 1MB, so it could be causing lowmem on the xbox to use. I do use Thumbsize=384 for the reason of (after trial and error) that size looked the best with still keeping freemem not low, and no missing icons also because of that. (384 keeps Freemem at average of 15-18megs with a movie library of 138 movies and tv shows around 15, whereas 512 keep showing a lot of missing icons and Freemem was always around 0-2MB.), but since this change, it seems to be locking up a lot now more, and seems to mostly be in that area of changing into the xbmc category, after the animation, or right after it stops. I hope this helps. PM3 doesn't inherit this problem. Haven't tried with other skins since Back-Row is the only one i ever use now. Thanks to you.

Yeah, i kind of agree with that. Maybe at a slight angle on the bottom right (like you simply spinned the dvd a little counterclockwise) to see the whole DVD word. TO play devils advocate, i understand it's for the overall effect it creating with just showing a little of it, and still complete's the effect it's intended for, so either way is cool with me. Adding to other views would be cool though, like i also mentioned.

Yes I love the view Sharpe has for the library view. Thats what I want for a regular view. The film surrounding the movies look tight. As well as the new dvd coming out of the right side of the movies. I hope

I've replaced the gif with a multi-image folder (like the busy folder) and that's given me more control over the timings. That might help with the locking /mem issues djdafreund's noticed. I just wish the xbox was a bit more powerful i guess.

Here's a heads up addition to be added if ya missed it, in case-

11774 Added : Option to Flatten Library Directory structure, Clicking Movies, TV, etc takes you directly to the Title list (Displays all Movies/Shows) instead of sub category select with Genre/Actor/Year etc. Option Button is located on the side of the video library window. Skinners need to add a button of id="17" to the MyVideoNav.xml for this to work in their skin

Yeah that library option seems an interesting addition - that's the same way I set Back-Row up to work - by going straight to the library titles from home.

I've been playing with some animation stuff again and have made a simulation of the dvd case opening up on the focussed icon in the 2 DVD case wrap views.

Although I might end up putting it in skin settings as an option for those that don't want it. I've updated the download link to include it - still something I'm working on.

Very nice mate. Is it possible to shorten the time from when it shows the dvd coming out of box. Currently it's somewhere between 4-5 second delay, possibly shorten it to 1 or 2 seconds. Just a thought. I like new animation, and glad you added it as a skin option, i will probably be using it myself, nice effect!!
Yeah, the countdown will be easier to work on, i will try to make a 16x9 version so it wil be more suited and better fitted for us HDTV users.

The dvd animation addition looks SO nice!!! Wow, impressive. The shorter time i was mentioning is meant for the dvd that slides out, And not for the new opening animation. That is already timed pretty nice as is. But yeah, i will work some on the countdown and 16x9 version. I'll try to look for a better one over all 1st, if not, i'll modify and tweek the current one.

Just spotted a bug. When flipping through movies in new dvd cover where the boxcover flips open after a second or so, after it opens, click in the opposite direction a couple times, and notice the next couple of dvd box choices, the image will show open box cover. After a couple times it goes back to normal again, when it does, stop and wait til it opens again, once again flip the oposite direction you were just going, tapping a few times in a row, again it will show the image of the cover open instead of the movie post, and after a few times it goes back to normal with showing the dvd cover.
Hope that helps. Also, i thought that would be neat if possible to have the sound of a dvd box opening (snap!) play when it starts opening, if possible. I like the sound of the film when it counts down. Nice touch.

Is anyone here having problems with the new xbmc & this skin? Even if I don't replace my custom PAL Folder Sharpe made me, all the text dissappears after I try selecting anything???????

OK, got the text to work. But what happened to Jukebox 1 view? Now theres a black box in front of every pic??????Maybe after Sharpe updates my old PAL Folder everything will work again?

I've just fixed that bug - thanks for spotting it. Yeah a sound when the box opens would be pretty cool - I'm not sure that's possible though.


@ maximusoctavious - I'll see what I can do mate - although it would be a helluva lot easier if you just used the default media views - with perhaps a slightly tweaked home.xml to incorporate your movie wallpapers - it's a nightmare keeping track of stuff!

Great news on the fix. One way i thought of that could be done with the sound effect could be to substitute the left right selection sound effect with the box open sound with a small padded delay so it syncs kind of with the delay of when it starts opening. Only drawback (why it prob. won't be good to do) is that obviously it will not match with any other views and in general if substituted since it will always play that sound.
Maybe in the future xbmc might add more customization to sounds with having individual sounds depending on the view, or adding capability of having a certain sound that a skin can call up depending on a conditional. Cool idea anyway for the sound, but i guess XBMC isn't quite ready to do that currently. Hold the though for a later release maybe if this changes in the future.
One thing i did have a request for and storm you brain on your thoughts. What would u say about (referring to the tilted icons view) bringing the bottom sides out that view so the angle is more noticeable? Since there's space to use to do this currently, it would define that angle a bit more noticeable.
I am also going to toy around with the film reel "waiting..." icon a little. I'm thinking it's a little change time for that. My idea is currently, instead of having the dots change (red and only a little contrast difference now.) i will mess with going back to the few normal reel holes, adding a center one (where it normally fits on the spindle of the projector) and for the bars/dots showing progress, instead i will add a little highlight for each section on the edge of each reel section. Somewhat like it was when it was smaller and each section at a time was colored/tinted in, but instead of the whole section (since it's bigger now then back when.) it would just be towards the edge of each real section. I'm also make a mockup of this idea too to show. But the explanation should be clear enough i'm hoping. I will most liking be doing this anyway if the idea is scraped, since i prefer it, well it looks good on paper at least. And won't take much work for me to do.

I have a few different pictures now with different styles of theater poster holder casings to go with the 'DVD Case wrap 2' styled view, that would look kind of like in a theater when you walk down the side's, how they have multiple in a row 'movie's coming soon" in casings. It'll be like that. With (that view has 3, but could also work with 5 smaller ones.) each movie title having the casing around the poster, overlayed or something.

Has the been uploaded yet? I D/L'ed this at like 3 this morning, so I think I got the one w/ the bug. Very nice work by the way! Seen this when the first beta came out.....it's remained very sheik, but progressive. If you could hear it........you would hear applause!

I have one problem, no matter what I just cant get all the screens to fit correctly. I adjust them I adjust the zoom and blah blah but it just dont seem to fit. It either cuts stuff off the sides or it is to small.

Finished with the 16x9 version countdown, also finished the alternate busy film reel logo. Click on the thumbnail to show the animated version i did for examples in action.


The image looks scrunched purposely, so when it's stretched by XBMC in 16x9 mode, it looks square and normal. I thought about adding white squares on each side to fill, with a degree of motion blur going downward, to look like it's film flipping on a screen, for effect.


Click on the picture to see the sample in action. I wish i had a choice of which frame image shack uses for the thumbnail, since it doesn't show the idea here with the starting frame.

Ok, i think others would agree that it's beyond mature enough to be added to the SVN skin tree. Sharpe, i know your trying to be humble and not modest, but really, it deserves it. I'm trying to think of some more new idea's now. I'm trying to decide whether to replace the favorite's side background (curtains) with a vertical filmstrip or not. I'll have to try and see what it looks like maybe. I do like it currently with the curtain. Just thought i'd see if maybe it looks even better and more appealing to the eye.

Wow. I've somehow never gotten around to playing with this skin before, and I'm just blown away. Huge props for all the work: its easy to navigate, original, beautiful and filled with useful customization. I'm going to be playing with this for a while I think. One tiny question, which is probably answered in the proceeding pages, but I couldn't find it: Is it possible to have the time showing on the home window?
