I got 9 verbs out of a pack of 20 that wont burn. Im using a pioneer 111d thats only a couple of months old with the standard 1.23 firmware. I use a 162c with Kreon 8.1 firmware to rip the game and im usin xbc to rip and burn. I tried all 3 burn engines.

Xbc gets to "performing optimal power calibration" I hear a few clicks from the drive then "sense error 3/73/03" and "power calibration area error" mad.gif . at first i thought it cant be the disks but some work and some dont uhh.gif I remember getin an error somethin like that before when i didnt wait long enough after putin a disk in. The disks are +r dl verbs, they do look a bit different to my last lot they got a kind of pinky look to em.
Should i try a diferent firmware in my 111d uhh.gif can i burn games in my kreon 162c uhh.gif I got the latest firmware in my 360 happy.gif

anyway, you have to buy new media. Suggest you get some media you know are OK. You need to confirm media or burner.

He did not say they were India, so unless he confirms that is what the package say nothing to conclude.

While the discs made in India aren't quite as good, they still scan okay. Anyways, this is one of the many reasons why I tell people not to buy media off of ebay. No kind of gaurantees if something goes wrong, not to mention they usually end up paying more after shipping.

I've gotten 20 pack spindle Verbs from Newegg that have worked flawlessly. $35.99 + 3 day shipping. I've also gotten the DVD-R 16x Verbatims and after three 100 packs, only 2 bad burns. (DVD-R's "Made in India": reorder #:95102, UPC: 023942951025)

With solid performance like this, it's worth it to me to buy from a reputable online company like Newegg. Check out resellerratings.com and just see what I'm talking about. You may find a spectacular deal on +R DL's at Office Dump or Staples: The ORIFICE Superstore, but you can't know which brand has which manufacturer (ex Memorex DVD+R DL(pink label) = Ritek D01). Unless of course you had an updated UPC to manufacturer cross reference list. If one were to buy each brand, open them up and then run DVDinfoPro on each brand, then reference them according to their UPC's, that would be KILLER! I doubt one would be so inclined, though.

Which makes me wonder... Is it likely that you just had a bad batch? I like to think that hardware would be the last thing to cause problems. Could it be that there was a conflict with some other program to cause the power calibration error? Maybe try burning in safe mode. Lose some programs running in the background and see what that does.

I'd really like to know how it turns out, cuz I'm interested in doing the Kreon/Pioneer setup as well.

Kinda comparing apples and oranges though, as the 16x Moser Baer discs (Made In India) are single layer and single layer tends to be much more forgiving for errors than double layer. Anyways, the best deal currently going is actually office max. 10 packs of the DL Verbatim DVD+R (currently all of which are made in Singapore) for $15. If your local store doesn't have them you can usually order them online and if you order 4 packs or more (40 discs or more) you get free shipping. Or if you really don't mind ordering in bulk you can track down one of the coupons for officemax and get them really cheap. Ended up paying $1.27 a disc last time around after adding in a $30 off $150 coupon. You are correct about the "manufacturer roulette" on other labels though. Verbatim DL DVD+R is still by far the safest bet at this point. The only MII DL DVD+R that has surfaced thus far has been in the 50 packs of DL Verbatim from Sam's club.
