I am about to purchase a samsung 162 with kern .81 for backing up my xbox360 games. Do you still need to have the firmware update done on you dvd drive in the xbox360 to play the backups?

yes, you need the X360 drive flashed, and a way to do your backup (In your case = kreon 0.81). Both are needed.

now I just have too decide if I want to try to do the flashing myself...otherwise a few shops around me do it, but they charge 150.00 to flash the drive for you.
and I can pick up the samsung for 50.00

yeah..i think it is high too...will order the dvd rom this week...and look at flashing it myself.
