From next-gen.biz:
Microsoft is bidding on a vacant lot currently owned by Nintendo in Redmond, Wash., the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports.
A Nintendo exec told the paper that Microsoft is just one of the bidders that is interested in the 27-acre piece of empty land. Microsoft and Nintendo of America's headquarters are located in Redmond.
lets hope microsoft makes some kind of merge in some way with nintendo and not use all of that land for manufacturing that halo 3 zune.
(That is if they buy it and then work out a deal hopefully. More arcade games!)

They are looking to purchase a peice of dirt, not the company.

I bet Nintendo will not sell it to MS unless they have a price that is something like double the other bidders.

Not to be whiny, but I fail to see how this should even be on the frontpage news. They are trying to buy a small piece of land that happends to be owned by Nintendo.. so what , where is the newsvalue in this ?!?

yep, another pointless news item. come on xbox-scene no one cares if m$ buys a bit of land. We're interested in games and hacking not real estate.

If so I could ig up all sorts of stuff and start emailing to xantium or whoever does the news stuff... but I'd rather just read the news, not report it so i wont even bother.

I live in Redmond... You can actually see this land from my apartment
What I don't think most people realize is that Microsoft and Nintendo are right next to each other.
Click Here to see a map of the area!
Nintendo has had this land for many years, and it has gone undeveloped. Meanwhile, Microsoft has been building several new 4-story buildings just down the road. It's clear that MS wants to expand, and Nintendo wants to sell off some unused property.
The internet has it in their heads that Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony are all arch-rivals out for blood. This is simply untrue. Nintendo and Microsoft have been living together in harmony longer than some of you have been alive. The people that work at each company are human. They're friends with each other, and they get together and share ideas and opinions.

(Yay! I was helpful to someone!)
I know Nintendo was looking to expand a little bit last year. DigiPen was going to move to a new building, and that'd free up half a building for them. That fell through though.
Also, I saw building proposal signs posted up on the property in question last year, saying that Nintendo wanted to build on the property and was just going to the steps to get city approval. Those aren't there anymore. I don't know if they just couldn't get permission, or if they decided against it.
