Well I have a little argument with another guy on an Israeli forum about the first Xbox hack, he says that a modchip was the first hack to come out for the DVD firmware and I say that it was a "software" hack via a pc that was out first by the TheSpecialist and Commodore4Eva.

I know for sure that I'm right but I searched and searched and couldn't find evidence of that (accept for this post here: http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EE...yprcUrLDTt.php).

Another thing is that I say that the modchips for the DVD are pretty useless (but that's an opinion that's all).

I hate to see it when credit is due and people don't get it (the first people that came out with the firmware hack got to get credit for being pioneers).

Yes, the first drive hacks involved flashing the onboard firmware with a modified replacement. Later the modchips came. And No, modchips are not entirely useless... ask all those who have been banned from Live. With the chip, you can boot the original firmware from the drive. This is 100% safe. Booting with the chip on will load the modified firmware at bootup. As long as you are not connected to Live(unplugging the ethernet cable/wireless adapter is the only 100% safe method here) you shouldn't be banned from Live. HOWEVER... it is possible that the recent update logs activity even when not online. This would mean that loading a modified firmware when not online could get you banned when you do connect. I'm pretty sure this is not proven yet though. Final note, make sure to tell they guy that MS CANNOT detect modified firmware at this point, rather they can detect the use of modified discs. I'm reasonably certain this means that using a stealthed firmware with original discs should be safe.

*note: I am not a 360 firmware guru... but I try to keep informed. In any case, I freely admit that I might be wrong on several of the previous points. Except the first one... lol
