Hi

This is my first Softmod. I have read loads of stuff online and am stuck.

I used the Mech Installer Game saves - Run Linux, Restore Dashboard and Emergency Linux.

When I run "Run Linux" It tells me it fails and to run the "Dashboard Restore". When I run "Dashboard Restore" it says it is corrupt (from memory, or something similar). I can run "Emergency Linux" and I have telnetted into it from my PC but I have no idea if this is a good or bad thing as I don't know what I can do from Telnet. I think my dashboard may be the wrong version but can't find out the version, I have read many tutorials and can't see the version number on my machine. I have found a tutorial for changing the dashboard version (downgrade) via telnet but it wants you to upload a file to it (upload fonts-2004-01-15.tar.gz to ftp://192.168.0.3/mnt/E ) but I can't find where to get a copy of this file. But unless I know the dashboard number or if this is the right thing to do I am stuck.

Can anybody please help me out?

You can find the dash version by booting to the M$ dash and going into the settings menu. Then go into "about" and at the very end you will see a K and a D. The "K" is your kernel and the "D" is your dash version. Just write down the 4 number section for each. What dash version do you have after doing that?

If you need to update your dash you can put any Live enabled game in and select the "Live" tab in the game and it will update your dash for you (don't have to be connected to Live or even have a cable plugged in, it updated from the disc).

Cheerz, I've checked my DASH now, it's 5960. So that mustn't be the problem.

I have also run the Mech Installer and Splinter Cell saves and both just lock up my machine. Emergency Linux won't even run now, so I can no longer telnet in.

I am now thinking about doing a hotswap.

good idea?

I originally bought it second hand a few weeks back to run as a media centre. I'm not into games much.

If your xbox still boots to the M$ dash I recommend you delete the hacked saves you have on there. Then put Krayzies Ndure v1.1 (+v1.1.1 update) saves on. Then continue with the softmod. From the sound of it, it never installed anything, so you should be fine to delete the saves and put Krayzies saves on and execute them.

If your using Action Replay sometimes it will corrupt the save when you put it on the card, that's most likely what is happening with your saves your using now (locking it up). It might also happen when you try Krayzies saves, if so then try to find a smaller save (possibly Krayzies UXE or something lower) and then if it boots the smaller save, don't install it, but FTP the save you want to execute over. Then when you reboot the machine the new save (should be Krayzies Ndure v1.1 (+v1.1.1 update)) should be there and when you run MA or SC it should then execute and bring you to the softmod installation menu. wink.gif

Thanks Cereal, I'll give it a try.

One problem I had is that I dont have an Action Replay so I am using a usb/xbox cord and an Sd card. Action Replay software won't even recognise it (Fails to enumerate) even with the AR drivers installed to it. So I used a Program from OzChip (Or some name like that).

I think he's using a USB device. wink.gif

Not really sure on using a USB device, I've always used AR and MC's. Think there is a guide on which ones are compatible and which aren't, your may not be compatible. Check the pinned topics for that one, also I think there is a whole guide on using USB also that may be helpful.

Got to this link http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=262740 and it will tell you how to setup your usb stick to work with Action Replay. biggrin.gif
