Grabbed my copy of Flatout on friday, all shiney and new, but now its eatten 3 of my Verbs. Heres the thing

Rip is good - Ripped cleanly passing all checks on the XBC stealth check, ripped it twice suching XBC and once with schtrom and all images are 7.05gb, test passing grand images

Burn is good - Varified all discs too be the same image

But gives "unplayable disc".....

my set up is the Pioneer 111D and SH-D162A

Another odd ball is the fact that all my back ups work and when i place the Flatout 3 (the back up) in my PC it shows me the movie of "put this in a 360"....

Lil help??

Rip or burn bad you think?

sosotiit
you did your homework biggrin.gif and covered pretty much everything here.
since you tried with both XBCr and schtrom, the chance of a bad rip is not huge unless the original itself is strange.
Have you tried running Xdvdmulleter 9.2 on the backups and your iso image to check all stealth components are good?

Nothing is running?? like anydvd

as far as the burning goes, no changes? like new firmware, new batch of dvd... and you say you validated your image against the backup disc (using imgburn: How to verify a burn ).

Would you have another game you cna try to backup just to verify if the setup is still good?

good luck

Been on this board long enough to know my homework laugh.gif

I shall make another backup of one of my games to test it out. Very strange though. Might be a funny game. Stupidly i threw away 2 of the 3 verbs a used. Will give mullet a try.

3 verbs, 3 errors.....!! All the same so it must be the same thing (drive makes the same noise trying to play it). I'll uninstall IMGburn and XBC, defrag, reinstall then try and again a different game, check it works then try Flatout again! Gonna be a long night...

UPDATE - Used XDVDMulleter (very nice program) and the 3rd DVD (lost the other 2) say this;

IPB Image

Its the EXACT same for the .iso too so the burn must be good, the orginal works fine but all the back-ups are "unplayable".....

Have to go with the uninstall and pray thing, if not.... stuck

Couldn't be the laser could it? But ALL other backups work

Im having the exact same problem as you m8. im using ritek printables burnt at 2.4 speed in a pionner 111 with the 1.29 firmware and clonecd. it might be a laser thing because i reburned my fight night 3 last night and it came up unplayable disc.

i then turned the console off and then on and the game loaded. i then took the game back out then placed it back in and wouldnt boot.

it did boot 1 out of 4 times but now it wont boot at all. im going to check my laser later today and adjust it. i will let you know what happens.

FINAL UPDATE - All works

Well folks, or just me and a few other people tongue.gif , its been a VERY scary few hours

Went down the Pot Calibration route and now Flatout works, heres the story

Openned up my 360 and dismantled the DVD drive (for those with Hitachi's, you have to disconnect 2 cables to get at the pot area, not one like Samsungs). I changed the resistance from 4050ohms (if you are following a tutorial and measuring the resistance on a multimeter at 20k range, it says 4) to 3400ohms, this stops backups working but orginals worked..... I varied the resistance from 3600 to 2800 (don't go below this) and a variation of orginals not working and backups not working happened, the orginals functions at lower resistances but back-ups did not, so resistances did not allow anything. So in a final, "just leave it with back ups, i put it to 4030 ohms, only 20 ohms lower then to start, and BOOM, EVERYTHING works.

Morale - Change down in small steps and REMEMBER WHAT YOUR STARTING RESISTANCE IS
p.s
clean the laser with Isopropyl Alcohol, it evaporates in air and will not harm circuity, great for anything computer with crap on

hmm I'm having the exact same problem except my old backups are working but anything new that I burn now just goes staight into unplayable disc! I pop it in my computer and it says put it in the xbox 360 drive so it seems alright. I'm using Verbatims as well and XDVDMulleter beta 9.2 shows both the iso (preburn) and the dvd (postburn) to be perfect but it still doesn't play on the 360!

Could it be that I have to do a pot calibration as well?
