Hi everyone.

I have done a lot of research before posting so this isn't just a lazy-boy post. I have everything I need (I think) for backing up my Xbox360 games but I have some outstanding questions I'd like to get an answer to before proceeding.

Question 1
I've downloaded and examined the 2 choices of Kreon firmware for the 2 choices of Samsung drives. The Kreon firmware for the Samsung SH-D162C is running at V0.81 while the version for the Samsung SH-D163A is running at V0.80. The README in V0.81 has a part on the top stating the following:

QUOTE
The time has come for a small update. A few bugs/problems was identified in the V0.80 release, so a lot of effort has gone into testing
V0.81 in order to provide a more stable and reliable experience.

Changes/fixes in this release..
--------------------------------
Fixed: Wrong disc size was reported following a SS extraction when in 'lock' mode.
Fixed: SS extraction for XBOX game discs didn't work as expected, causing incorrect data in response table.
Added: The speed of the drive is set to 6x prior to extracting SS data just like the TS-H943 does 5x.
Added: A sense error 03/11/00 (Media Error - Read Error) will now be reported, if an unrecoverable read error occurs during SS extraction.
Fixed: A few other minor fixes to improve overall performance an reliability.

whereas this update is missing in the README for the Kreon firmware for the Samsung SH-D163A. Hence my first question is this; does the Kreon firmware for the Samsung SH-D162C contain more features than the one for the Samsung SH-D163A?

Question 2
I believe that my 360 has a BENQ drive. Will backups I make using either of the flashed Samsung drives stated above still work even though the drive is different?

Question 3
Here's a list of all the tools that I plan to use:

XBox Backup creator/Schtrom360Xtract v3.2
DVD ISO burner
Kreon firmware

Is there anything else you think I need/should do?

Question 4
Lastly, what's the difference between the iXtreme firmware and Kreon's firmware? Am I right in thinking that the iXtreme firmware is designed just for the Toshiba drives?

That's pretty much all I'm left wondering before going ahead so if anyone could clear up these questions for me I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you!

Hey cal,
1) there was a small fix in the fw after 0.80 and that was called 0.81. Now the 163 version called 0.80 was issued after and already had the fix in it, so they should both have the same feature (should have been called 0.81 really).

2) neither will work until you flash you Benq drive with a firmware that will allow it to play backups like the iXtreme 1.2 does for the samsung. Unfortunately that does not exist for the benq at the moment and may still take several weeks (c4eva is currently working on the hitachi firmware, then it will be benq). In short, you have no options at the moment to play backups with a benq.

3) When that is resolved, then
XBCreator or schtrom to do the backup is fine
Xbcreator or imgburn to burn the backup is recommended (not DVDisoBurner)
ref: Tutorial: Xbox Backup Creator 2.5 And Imgburn 2.3, (How to Easily Rip and Burn Games).

4)Kreon fw for the drive that goes in your PC (0.81 or 0.80 dependeing on the model)
and iXtreme Benq firmware WHEN AVAILABLE.
