Made a backup of our GOW (again, lazy kids smile.gif ) but produced 3 nice coasters. Was getting frustrated and just for giggles I decided to compare an old backup with the new and noticed that the Media code/Manufacturer ID for the verbatims I bought last week at best buy were 003 as opposed with the 001 that all my working backups have.
Not sure if anyone can confirm that this is my problem or not but for now I will wait til i can find a 3 pack of jewel cased verbatims til i try this again.
Heres what DVDINFOPro says about the two , first working then not...

old pack should say 2.4x as speed and the 003 should say 8x as speed.

for the rest they should both work just as good.
also if the second one is your burn, the label is strange for GOW??
How have you made that backup
soft, drive..?

I'm still using Metaphazes method found in one of the stickies and used Clone, Imageburn and DvdDecrypt to burn. I know my drive is a hitachi 59dj and that the firmware is something 2.3 , forgot the name.

The second backup was of lost planet (first i game i picked up). GOW is no longer reading , thus the reason for trying to backup again. Never had a problem before.

MKM003 should do fine, if you still have prob going back to mkm001 then maybe clean lens or a small pot adjustment.

Strange, because usually after the process is started it goes well sad.gif ,

just an update,
i picked up some verbatims today that were the older style , max write speed of 2.4. tossed it in the old burner and 30 minutes later i have a perfect working back up of GOW.

using dvdinfopro these read as mkm001 not 003 like the others that were causing me problems.

now that i have solved that i can stock up on these before the leave the shelves.

btw- i even tried adjusting the pot with no luck. the mkm 003 will not work for me.

Verbatim 8x MKM003 DL Verbatims have been around for several months now so they aren't really new. Frankly I'm surprised that you bought them as they are significantly more expensive than the 2.4x DL Verb MKM001 discs. I wouldn't worry about the MKM001 discs disappearing anytime soon as they are by far the most popular DL media buy out there and are often the most expensive DL media that most can afford to buy in any kind of quantity. You certainly don't see them in quantities of 20 or even 50 such as the DL MKM001s. BTW did you check the country of origin on the MKM003 discs? Some of the DL Verbatims are supposed to be made in India by Moser Baer now and they are definitely not as high of a quality as their Singapore produced counterparts. Incidentally Officemax has the 10 packs of 2.4x DL Verbs for $15 right now. If you can't find them locally you can order them in a quantity of 4 or more from http://www.officemax.com and get free shipping.

friggin 5 for 21 bux at best buy for the 003 but hey they are the only available verbs around here so.... tongue.gif

at the time i bought them cause thats what was available at the time.

currently the best buy carries 15 packs of 003 and 20 packs of 001. both said singapore as the place of manufacture.

i'm just happy to have solved my problem.

Take a look at the price per disc comparison. Much cheaper from officemax, unless BB has the 20 packs on sale.
