Do you mean are they lockable? for softmodding purposes in that case http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?p=list

i mean, would it take a modchip for the first one to work? i want a 250 gb,but not for much more than 55

Just use a recent softmod and you'll be fine.
The 137GB limit for softmods was circumvented long ago.
A $10 DuoX2 chip (or any chip for that matter) will also work.
Lockability is only important for Xbox Live purposes and softmods. . .
If you use a chip, you'll be fine. If you use a softmod, it's very likely the hdd will lock just fine (but not 100% sure until you try it).

ok,so if i used the duox2 chip, would i be able to upgrade to that 250 gb hd, and use xbmc, and do other stuff like rip games to the hd and run emulators?
