Just got back from watching Transformers. I dont really want to spoil anything for anyone but let me just say this:

Its what you WANT out of a Transformers movie. If you've been disappointed with all the summer sequels so far (Pirates 3, Fantastic Four 2, Spider-Man 3), this will renew your hope in eagerly awaited movies. Every minute of the action was awesome and most of the beginning of the movie was actually very funny.

So go watch it if you havent already! pop.gif

I saw this sucker at 8 last night. It freaking rocks. Keep in mind that I was a kid who grew-up playing with Transformers, who is now a 30-something with an office decorated with Transformers. I am an old-school fan, and I can't say enough how great this movie is. My wife even loved it.
dmanjohn
There are no words to describe this movie. It is has the greatest special effects EVER. The action was AMAZING, a lot of movie is really funny, and overall this is a MUST watch. I knew almost nothing about transformers going into seeing this movie and now i love it and know so much smile.gif

My buddy sprung for my ticket because he knew damn well I wasn't going to pay to see this *movie.* The transformations and action were good (nice Camaro is NICE!), but...

[LOTS OF SPOILERS]

1. Stereotypical black character (Jazz) dies = fail
2. Megatron is killed in the first movie = fail
3. overabundance of campiness = fail
4. Frenzy is the new Jar Jar Binks = fail
5. Devastator is a tank not a combiner = fail
6. Why was Scorponok in it?
7. Transforming Mountain Dew vending machine is EXTREME!! = fail
8. lame attempts at humor (e.g., stereotypical loud annoying black family, Indian phone guy breaking the sense of action in the Scorponok scene, black robot just HAS to breakdance (I really wish I was making that up), "masturbation scene," robot pissing, etc.) = autofail
9. If the Decepticons die so easily on Earth, why did they pose any semblance of a threat on Cybertron?
10. Megatron being "killed" by a human.
11. The transforming sound doesn't fit. At all.
12. MacGuffin: chasing after grandpa's glasses (again, I wish I was making this shit up). = fail
13. The blonde chick has the most ridiculous and annoying accent I've ever heard.
14. Clichéd clueless government that needs the help of a rogue hacker who loves DDR.

No doubt they'll resurrect Megatron for the next movie. I heard Unicron is set to be in it. I'd sooner watch a movie about My Little Pony than the next TF. Hell, combine them both to get "Unicorns vs. Unicron."

[/LOTS OF SPOILERS]

The only TF that really kicked ass was Starscream. He was possibly the one TF that was most closest to the original (even a hint dropped about his feud with Megatron). Unfortunately, he didn't have a lot of screen time or dialogue.

I'm sure that this movie will break records and win awards for the FX/CGI. I only recommend watching this movie solely for the visual effects. Find yourself a good theater with an excellent sound system and DLP if possible. Just don't expect anything other than a mindless action movie with giant robots. This movie is as Bay as it gets.

just wanted to point out that Scorponok was also in Transformers (the series) not only Beast Wars, which is probably why they chose him.

I went to see this movie lastnight and all i can say is wow. I think any Transformer fan on any level would enjoy this movie. There were a couple of things that made me sit back for a second and say, "Wow, that was kind of gay... but I don't GIVE A FUCK BECUASE ITS A TRANSFORMERS MOVIE!!!"

As for what Metaldevil has to say about the movie, I can only agree with 2 of your little statements. Devastor isn't a tank. Its cool that they made a TF a tank, but he isn't an individual TF. Megatron WILL likely be resurrected. How many times has he died or thought to be dead and came back. He'll be back some how. As for the rest of your thoughts;

1. How do you know jazz is a "black" character? I think its a little stupid to call him the "stereotypical" black character. His original character was a TF that was musical and used sound waves and such. I think they did a good job getting his personality onto the big screen.

2. Already explain above.

3. This is the first time they've shown themselves to humans. Do you not think that they would want to camp and remain hidden? It'd cause more chaos than anything having giant robots walking around everywhere, with humans aware of them.

4. I thought frenzy was actually kind of funny. I don't think there was a single time in any star wars movie where Jar Jar Binks was funny. Actually, he reminded me of a Gremlin than anything else.

6. Scorpinok was a good addition, especially for the desert scenes. He was a lot smaller than he was in the original cartoons, but he suited his purpose.

7. The transforming pop machine wasn't the only object transformed by the allspark. It was a good example of what it actually could do if in the wrong hands.

8. These scenes were funny as hell. The fact that Duhamel is calling for support, and gets an operator instead is just fucking classic. Anthony Anderson is classic. The dude is funny. If the movie went that way for humor, then thats what they did.. Like EVERY OTHER COMEDY that has a black family in it. You know how i stand on Jazz.

9. It didn't look like it was easy for the TF's to kill each other. Other than Megatron killing Jazz.

10. I thought the kid killing Megatron was smart. What other choice did he have at that point of time? Don't get me wrong, it would have been nice to see Optimus rip him apart.

11. I don't know what you were expecting for sound effects and voices, but when i first heard the sound, i was fucking pumped that they even added it. I thought it was realistic for a live action movie.

12. The glasses made sense. Once they were explained, and you seen optimus use them, it all added up and was a good idea. Mind you, there could have been 40 different things they could have done or used to create some sort of map, they ran with the glasses and it worked.

13. I don't care how stupid her accent is.. She's sexy as hell. I can tune her out.

14. Where do you think the government gets its anit-hackers?

From the sounds of your post, you were against this movie before you even entered the theatre. Which in turn would make you focus on some retarded little things, rather than the scale and awesomeness of a live action TF movie.

I don't understand how you could enjoy a movie like Spiderman 3 and not Transformers.

Sorry about that. I meant what purpose did he serve being a transforming scorpion that can tunnel through sand? Why not just have another vehicular Decepticon instead?

Black characters in movies are often portrayed as "mouthy guys with a hip hop attitude." Also, they tend to get killed more frequently than other races in movies (lots of times if they're the minority in said movies).

It's a Michael Bay movie. That right there is enough reason to expect nothing more than shaky camerawork and unnecessary slow motion shots, let alone vapid scene after vapid scene. Not to mention, the movie studio can afford over a hundred million dollars worth of special effects, but they couldn't hire a decent writing staff. The writers for that movie couldn't write a compelling suicide note. They should give it a fucking try, though. wink.gif You're right, though, I wasn't expecting the movie to be anything other than Generic Action Movie #47,193 with big robots. Still, it managed to disappoint on that level.

I'm not saying you "sux0rz" because you liked it; I'm saying I didn't (and some of my reasons why). I could probably have been satisfied with 45 minutes cut out of the movie while replacing a lot of the crap scenes with the Transformers conversing/reacting to/communicating/fighting with each other. Their personalities could have been fleshed out much more, too. They're too one-sided in the movie (e.g., "I lead!"; "I'm cruel but cool."; "I fix things."; "What's happenin', bitches?"; And Bumblebee). Realistically, I don't expect a movie based on 20-year-old toys (which feels more like a two and a half hour commercial for the American automotive industry) to be engaging. So kudos to you if you liked it, and kudos to you if you didn't. smile.gif

last one to see this.

story was kinda all over the place, army here, las vegas guy had a wife kid (lame attempt to make you care for 1 of 1000 people in this), secretary of defense doesn't know shit as usual, nerds (one with horrible accent), anthony anderson over acting as usual (at least it wasn't orlando jones), fred savages' gradfather in the ice, megatron in it for couple of minutes???, autobots came from nowhere pretty much talked a bit, then dropped like flies, LOL, fred savage trying to get laid, never shutting the Fuk up in the proccess.

B+ = story was LAME, action was good.

The Fred Savage kid is HORRIBLE, i couldn't wait for him to shut the fuck up, so i could look at either the hot chick, or the CGI.
GearsofWar
i think this is funny i was going to post this but looky looky ive found a posty. lol anyways it was the coolest movie i have seen in a long time. my fav part was the part... o wait should i? o well when one of the autobots shot the ground to propel himself over the screaming lady so he didnt crush her. that was really cool. i loved the car dealers part. "meet my grandma" or was it mom? cant remember o well. remember what she did though? lol the finger. i loved this movie so much that im seeing it again and i think tomorrow, thats if my friend can go or not, and if my dad will pay for the tickets. love.gif love.gif love.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I think this is something we'll have to get past, because we're going to see it more and more. This movie was the cover story of EW Magazine last week, and this point was mentioned to Bay. He frankly didn't give a shit. GM paid a little over $3 million to have those 4 GM vehicles featured. PLUS they donated the 2009 Camaro. Remember there were only like 8 of those in existence, as it was still a "concept".

The movie budget was $150 million. $3 million gave them substantial flexibility.

Not a big deal for me to see the GM vehicles.

That was more of a general statement by me, than a complaint, regarding the cars. It is clear that we will be paying to see advertisements in all aspects of our entertainment, be it movies, video games, w/e. I reluctantly accept that fact. The movie was packed with all sorts of advertising, some subtle, others, not so much.
My main complaint about the show was how poorly written and executed the story was. My complaints basically mirror what metaldevil has outlined above, so I wont rehash them.

I realize this, but it would have been great to see European and Asian vehicles as well. I think Bumblebee turned out great as a Camaro, but they horribly downgraded Jazz from a Porsche to a Pontiac.

As far as in-movie advertisements go, the Mountain Dew-cepticon and the X-bot 360 were a bit "over-the-top."

I said that exact thing to my friends as we left the theater.

The comedy in this film was better than your average superhero movie (Spiderman, Fantastic 4, etc...) And it had some awesome special effects. The plot was terrible, and it didn't help that the kid next to me was a die hard transformers fan who wouldn't stop talking throughout the whole movie. (Shia Lebeouf sticks the cube in Megatron; Kid says "NICE!!!" with a fist pump.

a quick question for those of you complaining about the humor in the movie...

did you guys even watch the old cartoons?

they were riddled with the same type of retarded one-liners and lame cliches.. i mean duh.. if you're going to create a movie based on a child's cartoon, there are certain aspects you need to stick to.. dumb humor being one of them. to not replicate that would be a disservice to the original series.

what's next? are they going to make a real life gi joe only to hear you guys bitching about how horrible they all shoot? "omg'zers.. doze guy are teh suxXors wit dere lazzers!!11one1!" no.. cuz in the cartoon, they shot like shit.. come on, 8 million lazer beams going all over the place and nobody ever got hit? but hey, that's what made gi joe, gi joe.

i was JUST about to point that out too happy.gif
twistedsymphony
ubernewb hit it right on the head... Jazz was always a breakdancing stereotypical hip-hop character. The characters were always shallow and 1 dimensional. I wouldn't have been at all surprised if they ripped the basic story line right off one of the original cartoons.

On a whole I liked the movie and throughly enjoyed it. It was MUCH MUCH better than I was expecting.

There were only a few issues I had with the movie (spoiler warning)

1. As with most action movies the portrayal of technology and computers is just retarded... random characters floating in a purple mist while someone slaps a keyboard is not "hacking" Nor can you "hot wire a computer to send morse code" using a screwdriver. I can buy the overused cliche of the government needing the help of some rogue hacker who lives with their mom but seriously REAL hacking can be just as interesting on the big screen IMO.

2. The people representing section 7 were were borderline slapstick, they were seriously one step away from bonking each other on their heads and pulling each others noses. The rest of the government agent, the defense people, the military people, etc. were OK. I can buy widespread incompetence but section 7 was more like a circus act than secret government branch. This was punctuated by the dumbest idea in the history of action movies: making the intentional decision to go to from the middle of the desert to the middle of the city.

I don't care how stupid you want your fake government to look a 2 year old could tell you that if you wanted to be seen by the LEAST amount of people possible, have the LEAST number of people die and cause the LEAST amount of damage going from the desert to the middle of a city is the worst idea in history. I understand that the city landscape makes for a much more interesting battle scene but c'mon write in lame excuse to go there, don't just pretend its a great idea.

3. While true to the original I didn't really like the personalities chosen for the Autobots, particularly Optimus. While I can accept the campy and stereotypical personalities of the rest of them Optimus just didn't seem like a leader I think I could have forgiven the lack of character depth if they at least made him a bit more serious.

Aside from the above I thought the writing was pretty good the humor was written better than most "summer blockbusters" particularly the use of music in the first half of the film.

I think what we all have to keep in mind is that this movie wasn't made for us... this movie was made for children and just happens to be founded in a classic cartoon that we all enjoyed as children. Go back and watch some of the original cartoons and you'll find that they're FAR AND WIDE WORSE than this film. And even with that said most of the complaints I've seen here are in areas where they stayed TRUE to the original.

But yeah, twisted brings up a good point. Just because all of us xbox-sceners were elite ub3r hax0rs at the age of 7... doesn't mean that kids now a days are. So attempting to make a computer/monitor send Morse code with the help of a screwdriver sounds completely plausible.

Idk, I saw it again the other day. lol. It was just as awesome as the first time tongue.gif

Don't you need a screwdriver to take the equipment apart? All the guy does is ask for a screwdriver. No one knows what he did with it.

I finally went and saw this movie yesterday. I was a huge fan when I was younger, so naturally I liked it. Yeah a lot of things were pretty crappy. But as others have said its based off a 20 year old cartoon. I just thought it was cool that they did a movie about it. (Besides the one way back in the 80's) IMO its better than most of the movies i've seen so far this summer. I agree though they try to get you to feel for these characters, really a horrible attempt. Its a live action movie, you cant really expect a whole lot from that genre. Overall though I wouldn't mind seeing it again. Just the nostalgia (sp?) of seeing them again was awesome.
