I need a mod chip that can extract the dvd key from mobo i bought a 360 online and they had replaced the dvd rom and claimed it was a read error only anyway i was screwed need to know if there is a work around

I dont even think that is possible at this time...like I havent heard of anyone extracting a DVD drive key from the motherboard....

You basically are screwed at this time, I mean theres not much you can do without the original drive key from the original DVD drive.

I'm researching this myself. Microsoft appears to be using a tool similar to the way we used to mod the old xbox hard drives. They are connecting a device to the debug header and coding the key onto the drives at production. The Texas facility seems to be either in posession of such a device for repair or is pulling the code manually and reflashing this key to the drive. The problem is if the drive is toasted they need a method to recode a new drive. HLDS and Samsung are building these drives and to my knowledge are not supplying MS with much more than just an assembled product (ie: no internal parts for repair - although it is possible on the aftermarket scene to obtain the replacement parts). The drives are locked in to the mainboard with a challenge/response code method. The "key" on the drive is the correct response but to research this we need to know what the exact "question" the mainboard is asking the board. I am sure a Modchip can be developed for the debug header to probe the Southbridge SATA lines to find the correct key. We would need to know what mainboard firmware code executes the askig for the key and what the response it is expecting and simply reflash the NAND line with a new challenge "question" to ask the drive that is compatible.

Can we get a team together with the group that is probing the code of the mainboard firmware to get this going?

Your dvd-key is in the keyvalut in your kernel. You can extract it and even change it. However, this requires an exploitable kernel and a known-dvd key to run the patch King Kong disc to use the exploit. A modchip isnt required, just more knowledge about the kernel and a workaround. This is already being worked on in one way or another, so no need to form a team.

So, in the near future, is it possible that there will be some modchip-related product for those of us wishing to extract a DVD key from the mobo? (ya know, those of us without as much technical intelligence lol tongue.gif )

Any update on extracting the dvd key from the mobo without the original dvd drive?

No, same status.

I will keep checking back on this and thanks for all the replies. On another note has anyone tried the infectus i see they have a version 2.0 chip out and was wondering if this chip could retreive the dvd key

Hi!!

At this moment there is no possible way to extract your DVD-KEY without a working DVD-Drive. As you have been told, you need the King Kong exploit in order to access keyvault.

Even if you dump your firmware with infectus, the firm is encrypted and the DVD-Key can't be extracted at the momento.

Good Luck!!

Unless you have your CPU key no.
