I am getting error code 6 (Cannot Unlock Hard Drive) on my screen. This is on a 320gb HDD in my box that has worked for some time now. I wanted to try to save the drive being I had it almost full of movies and music and other things but at this point i am willing to cut my losses and just start over with a fresh drive. I have tried to use HDM to build a new HDD from scratch but that option wont work. I did some searching and found this link http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/6.htm and the steps to try but they didnt work. I have used HDUNLOCK to try to unlock the drive but it wont work. I have used UNLOCKX and it also sayd it will not unlock the drive. I am certain of my HDD Key and Pass because I have my original OEM drive backed up on CD and used it along with HDM to generate the HDD keys to make sure that they are correct.

So just to make sure, the HDD Locking Key is what I should be entering. This key is 40 characters right? I have tried both ways with no results and no way to find myself unlocking the drive. Can someone please help me out here?

are you saying that one day for no reason it just poped a error 6
or did you do something to cause it

created while that HDD was installed

BTW no two HDD's will have the same locking pass....

What do you mean you used the oem hdd to generate the keys? The eeprom.bin contains one "hdd key".. Only that key and the new hdd are needed to lock the new drive properly.. Different hdd's will have different passwords using the same hdd key.. I realize the oem hdd needs to be softmodded to an extent in order to obtain the eeprom.bin for that xbox, but thats the end of its real usefulness if you're upgrading..
